View Full Version : Fem Fatales

Ok, me and my mother got in a debate. If a war came around (Goddess forbid) should females be drafted too? I said they should, because they possess strengths that males do not have. Just the same as us males have strengths females do not have. A male and female army in my opinion would be more effective. My mom being more traditional, doesn't think females can fight in battles.

I'd like to hear all of your opinions on this..

Men and Womyn would be SO beneficial in a fight... You are right they have their own strengths. Your poor poor mom. She doesnt realize how strong she is...

I'd go. Frankly, I would love to fight in this war. One of bin Laden and co.'s biggest problem with the Western World is the women of the Western World. They don't like us wearing pants, working, owning ourselves, etc. So, I think it would be very pleasing to fight him. For me, that would be a victory in and of itself.

However, when we speak of the draft it is a very indiscriminant tool for picking soldiers. There are both women and men who would be unfit for war. Women as a whole, have historically been trained for gentler roles in society. Amazons, such as myself, exist, but are rare. Women may make wonderful soldiers, but we would have to overcome thousands of years of history that has excluded women from battle.

I hope not. Honestly, I'd be terrified to go to war. I'm not saying I couldn't fight, just that I don't think I'd want to. Ok, I'm a coward, I can live with it. :)

If women want to fight, and are fit to, then let them; we could use all the help we've got.

Aren't there women in the military now? What are they training for, if not to go to war?

Yes, there are women in the military, but I was just suggesting a scenario if the U.S. had to draft individuals, should they recruit both males and females.

I'd be afraid to fight too. I'm fit and all, but unfit to go to war. I'm a coward I suppose too.

Tigerwallah, you're an inspiration. I love it when females actually know their abilities, and that they are as good as a man.

I think we should be allowed to do ground combat etc. I think that we would be just as good as the men....That said....I would be hiding under the couch. If I was in the field of combat, staring down the barrel of a gun and pointing my own at someone else, I dont think I could shoot them, they would have to shoot me. No doubt they would.

I personally wouldn't want to go...Despite any bravado I'd have here, when faced with the options I'd probably run my little butt off. But if other women want to go, good for them.
Also, not to sound conservative, but...
If they start *drafting* women, then who's taking care of the kids, holding down the fort, etc?

I also have a serious health condition that would keep me from getting conscripted anyways so I dont think it matters too much for me (plus the living in Australia thing :D)

If men do, women should. Not because they can fight better; because men and women are both *people* of the same country.

We don't need to turn this into another "men vs womyn" type thread. Who cares who fights better, we all want the same things and live on the same lands, regardless of our gender.

Yeah, that would be the ultimate irony, we should send an army of "chattel" to Afghanistan to whip their asses :) !!! Imagine, the Taliban being conquered by America's WOMEN. That's the answer. They would never, ever, ever live that down. The best part is, it would go a long way to liberating the women of that country, who truly do need liberation in a serious way.

So sit down and write your congressman, asking to allow women to serve on the front lines of US Military organizations.

Anyway, realisiticly, the only real differance would be in morale. A lot of soldiers (both men and women alike) got lucky in the Gulf War, which is rarely the case in all-male forces.

There are many women in the military...just because they aren't on the "front lines" fighting doesn't mean they aren't doing their part. My little sister was in the military but got out...(thank you) as a reporter and they are on the front lines reporting and taking pictures, even carry a small handgun...not sure what it's called...Gunner...you know?

Also I have to give a big shout out to all the nurses and Doctors...both men and women who keep our boys in good repair!!!

Willlow: I'm not saying anyone's better at fighting...Even if I did I think I'd side with my own gender, y'know?
Just thinking practically. How would it be decided who goes in a family if they start drafting both men and women? (Personally, I think those with families shouldn't be drafted at all.)

I'd vote for women being drafted as well. I think war is an equal opportunity tragedy. Mind you, I'm giving my opinion on women and the draft when I'm opposed to the concept of the draft anyway, so perhaps I shouldn't be adding my 2cents? ;)

While I do agree "something must be done," I'm not yet sure I can say "war is the answer." I'm just glad that my brother and boyfriend wouldn't be drafted because they both have heart murmurs.

Good question, I was thinking about that, and I guess maybe they'd let the couple decide (if there were two parents/guardians) and if not single parents would either choose to stay or give their kids to a guardian for the time being if they wanted to fight. Stuff I hope we don't have to think about seriously :(

Wyrd : I know how you feel. If it happens it might be the first time I'll be glad my dad has a heart condition et cetera, but my brother will have to go and my fiance as well :(

"a small handgun...not sure what it's called...Gunner...you know?

1. that would be the beretta "m-9/m10" 9mm pistol that is standard issue or possibly the SIG "p228" 9mm (military designation m-11) used as a secondary standard in situations where the m-9/m10 is too big and bulky. the SIG is my personal choice in the full sized "p226" 9mm or "p220" .45 versions, i have both. the SIG p226 is also preferred and used by navy "seal" operators. (SIG = "swiss industrial group" in english) female troops would, i think, find the "m-11"/"p228" a bit more comfortable to handle given it's slightly smaller grip frame though it shoots the same standard 9mm cartridge as the full sized pistols using a 13 shot magazine rather than the 15 shot magazine in the full sized pistols. does that help?

2. and add an "oooohraah!" for the medics and navy corpsmen who patch us up on the field, under fire, to get us back to where the nurses and docs can work on us.

" but my brother will have to go and my fiance as well"

if they must go tell them to try to get into the "lincoln and welland" regiment, an old friend of mine is second in command of the lincs and he's a good officer, the kind that looks out for his troops.

Uh thanks Gunner...I knew I could count on you to confuse me with a bunch a numbers and such!!! I think I remember her saying 9mm something or another. She got to practice taking it apart and shooting and such and was actually prety good at it. She would have been a great soldier.

She got very homesick and started really thinking about the five years she had commited herself to in order to get the job she wanted. She got to come home a week before she would have graduated boot camp. It wasn't the physical training that bothered her...just being homesick. There was a lot of turmoil and hard times back home and she felt she was needed here more than there. They weren't going to let her leave but one of the upper officer guys was Italian and told her he was a big family man and he understood where her heart was.It was a big battle because she scored awesome on the tests, what are they called....something fabs...whatever, anyway they said it would be a big waste if she left. but she did get an ok to come back in two years if she should decide to change her mind. Several times over the last year I have thought she would have been better off if she had stayed in, but now I am saying a prayer of thanks every minute. Of course now she is worried about a lot of her friends.

Mmmm true, dat. Boot camp is more psychological training than anything else, since all things must be broken before properly rebuilt.

I have no problem with women fighting in this war. I do however have a problem with the draft being reinstated, which is a whole different can of worms.

I remember hearing about a study that the Israli's did on women in war. The women weren't the problem, basically it was the reaction of men to the deaths of these women. It caused the men more pain, and trauma seeing women wounded and killed in war thus causing a problem in combat situations.

Now, I can't tell you where I saw this. It was several years ago, and it was during my college days. If anyone knows anything about this study, or the results or if I'm way off base with the factual knowledge, please, please, please correct me.

Personally I'd love to do anti-terrorism work with the military. I'd wanted to go into the Navy in the Intelligence department, however it wasn't in the cards for me. Goddess at work again, LOL.

I know this is probably going to sound sexist and someone is going to take it the wrong way. I can see why women arent' drafted...you don't know who might be pregnant or have kids at home...true men do too, but if something happened to the men, the mothers would be there for the kids. If something happened to the mothers, who knows if they're married, if the father is around, if the father cares etc. Sure there are families who could take care of the kids but that's not all cases.

Just my opinion.
