I really would like to revisit this thread in 2012 and see if it really happened like that. I don't believe in predestination and fate. I do believe that there are infinite possibilities of the future and seeing the future only means seeing one remote possibility or maybe the most likely path.

So much for the Prime Directive.

If we humans could think of a fictional rule to keep from meddling in the development of alien species, why didn't these particular more advanced aliens realize that we need to solve our own problems, not get "rescued"?

BTW, I clicked the link above but it had some coding errors. However, those that are having problems can view the same article here, too: http://www.libertypost.org/cgi-bin/readart.cgi?ArtNum=79567&Disp=All

thanks NeferSesemet for posting that link. Interesting article, I too would like to revisit that link in 2012 although I am sure it already has some truth to it.

Oh come now Ses, how often did you see Spoke and Kirk break that prime directive to "SAVE" and indigenous species. You know darn well that humans cannot and do not leave well enough alone. Prime example "IRAQ"

I'm with Ses. If we have some aliens "solving" our problems for us, how are we ever supposed to learn anything?

**laughs** Oh, Shatril, I never said we *follow* it. I just said we have it as a rule for a piece of fiction. I was trying to point out that we did manage to think of it, even if most of us aren't smart enough to adhere to it. And then I was expressing disappointment that a civilization advanced enough to develop space travel capability isn't smart enough to leave things alone and let US develop and get to the point of space travel, too....on our own. :) Then again, maybe that's exactly their plan. They are sowing the seeds of discord through our reptilian President, and if that doesn't work, keeping us meek an subjugated by their impressive futuristic technoloy will work.

Glad you got the joke of that. My husband has a theory that we are like an ant farm for the GOD/DESS. That theory fits so well with this remote viewing thing that it is scary to me. A Always figured we were an aquarium, but hey.

From what is stated in the article they are supposed to be pulling us back from the brink of destruction. However, the tone of the article is almost Armageddonish in tone and texture, which also frightens me. Could the Christians be right, are the Buddhist talking about the same thing and activity. Yikes!!!!! Just boggles the mind doesn't it.

I was once going to write a story about aleins saving the world from distruction.. it was actually really similar to what the article was talking about... cool.

As a parent/grandparent I tried to teach my daughter and try to teach my grandchildren to make wise choices, but sometimes due to lack of experience or poor judgment parents have to step in and "rescue" children from causing a problem they won't be able to solve by themselves, or help them solve a problem that's simply too big for them to handle. That's part of the teaching and guiding a parent does. We don't just toss the kids out there and let them figure out how to do everything for themselves, we begin by teaching them and giving them problem-solving tools. I see the gods and goddesses as being like parents for the human race, eh?

Perhaps, but that doesn't mean a nosy neighbor should assume the parental role. :)

I don't know if it was sloppy work on the part of the reporter or difficulty in translations, but first the monks are quoted as saying "supernatural divine powers" will intervene, then as "extra terrestial powers".

The first one sounds like gods or goddesses, a higher power, a divine source. The second one does sound like nosy neighbors. I'd be interested in knowing which (if either) they were actually describing.
