View Full Version : Art Nouveau Tarot? Good or Bad?

I'm purchasing my second tarot deck. I've had the Mary Hason Roberts one for about two years and I really love it, but I want something new now that I really feel comfortable with the cards.
However, I still want something based, at least loosely, on the Rider-Waite deck since that's what I learned with. I've been looking at the Art Nouveau deck at Borders lately but it's in the package and I can't get it out and look at the cards. I love the Art Nouveau style though, so it seems like a good choice. Does anyone have the deck and could tell me about it?
(Plus now I got a gift certificate to Borders for X-mas, so I can afford it! Whoot!)

Thanks for the info, though that isn't the Art Nouveau tarot deck I've been looking at though. That's really nice that they show all the cards.

I know the deck you're talking about - I own it. :)
It is without a doubt a **very** pretty deck, but the images aren't very conducive for intuitive readings... If you know all the meanings of cards by heart or you're a collector of decks like that, then you'll like it. Otherwise you'll be spending a lot of time looking up what the heck the cards mean. *lol*
Here's a link to the one I'm thinking you're talking about:

I think it is a beautiful deck, though I do think the cards are a bit bare of symbols... contrary to the Rider Waite which is full of symbols (birds, items, colours etc).

I don't have it, but I have pondered whether I should obtain it or not. The more I study sample images of it online the more it conveys to me a romantic feeling. Aesthetically gorgeous, but lacking symbolic substance necessary for proper divination.
Both this and the Art Nouveau deck mentioned previously seem to fall prey to this very problem, cards that possess great beauty while lacking actual substance. Perhaps it is the style of art, but being that art is not my specialty I cannot say.
