the same footage all day everytime you flip to the news?
the same interviews, and comments, and "news"?
Gee does it seem like they've turned it into a media grab?
Sorry, I just hope I'm not the only one who's had to turn the tv off because the same "news" keeps playing over and over....

I do agree with you, the same footage is just needless and depressing. I find CBC Newsworld isn't as bad as CNN, though.

The songs are the worst. I mean, Jewel and Creed didn't have very good songs to begin with, but you start cutting in the tracks of bush swearing for vengeance and people screaming about falling towers, it's really just too, too awful. What kind of sick person LIKES that sick, depressing montage S%$^@t?? Just taking a guess, but the same people who give their cats "cutesy" names and have rooms full of beanie babies and "precious moments" figurines. Sick, sick people!!!!

They're doing it here with U2 songs. It's blasphemy I tells ya! Well, maybe not that harsh, but it does suck.

i think you are all forgotting that commercial television is for profits not for information. What else do you expect?
It's like.... patroitism was all very well and good till they re-opened the New York Stock Exchange.... and people started liquidating even though it is very damaging to the economy and very selfish. bb talamh

I don't think anyone is forgetting as much as getting shocked at how far it goes. I mean you expect that to some degree but I'm continually shocked by how far they'll go.

My friend and I were talking about this, this morning. I have gotten a little tired of seeing the SAME images, but I do NOT get tired of listening to new developements and analysis. I don't personally want to see the WTC being hit by airplanes anymore, I've seen it a million times. But I think that we are in danger of losing our humanity, if we say we just want to return to life as normal, without news and updates, and such about these horrific events. I'm not saying that we should all put our lives permanently on hold. No..we HAVE to get about our normal routines. Get up, go to work, send our kids off to school, clean our houses, run our errands, make appointments, etc. But...if we start complaining about how our normal television viewing habits are interrupted. Or how we're having a rough time traveling, or any of the other ways in which we may be ..."inconvenienced" by these events, aren't we at risk for losing this IMMENSE spirit that we have witnessed the birth of in our country, and indeed, the world????
I have been extremely touched by the heartfelt emotions expressed by people around the world, regarding this. I have also been deeply touched by the OUTPOURING of charity and kindness I have seen. If we drift back too quickly into the world of Jerry Springer, and MTV'S Real World, and Survivor 2010, are we as a nation, or a world, paying close enough attention to the need for mourning, for unity, for support during these troubled times?
Personally, I've never been much for network TV. I've never really gotten into the talk show circuit, or sitcoms. I prefer to watch the news, or some documentaries. So this doesn't really disturb me. In fact, I find it heartening. Not that I am happy that ANY of this has happened. But , seeing our attention, as a nation, focus away from Who's Cheating on who, and Who is going to make a Million Dollars, and Who will get killed off next on our favorite soaps, is a VERY good thing to me. During this time, we should focus our energy away from the negative things in our day to day lives. Try to be a little less selfish (and I'm NOT accusing anyone here of BEING selfish)...and self centered, and realize that there is a LARGER picture. A LARGER world. There are GREAT issues at hand in our lives. Somehow, the events of this past week, have drawn us ALL out of our shells, and have brought us closer together as a Human Race. No longer do the people cutting us off in traffic, or our messy house, or bad test scores, or any one of the numerous little interruptions and inconvenieces in our lives, seem like SUCH a huge issue. They are SO mild in comparison to the problems, grief, and overwhelming troubles of others in our world.
I personally, Fear, that once the "Shock" of this whole thing has worn off, the flags will slowly come down, the candles will dissappear from windows, "God Bless the USA" will be a faded refrain, and in the end, we will be no more changed as a country, then before this whole thing happened.
We have witnessed extroardinary unity, and extroardinary beauty in the souls of so many of the world, during these events. Let us appreciate that, and keep it in our hearts. Not just this day, not just this year..but forever.

I think the news reporters are as much in shock as the rest of us...........and are scrambling to know what to do as well.........
I go in waves....... sometimes I can watch some things and other times I just cant take another minute......... but my nerves are still frayed knowing my son is in the middle east ........ and when they show pics of that area......... I just turn to jello inside......
and sometimes I just put my face in my hands and weep.............But I am grateful for up to date news....... it can be a dangerous job. someone was reporting from the middle east the other night from an "undisclosed location"

I do get very sick of the same interviews, clips, and speeches shown over and over. The first few days were especially bad because they continuously showed the planes crashing into the WTC and it just was so freakin disturbing. Those days I had to take breaks from the tube often, but still felt glued to it at the same time.

As you can see in my first post I'm referring to seeing the *same* things over and over. For instance, my sister in law was missing all last week, so as you can imagine I got sick of watching the same things said and videos played the hundred or more times I saw them while watching tv 24/7 waiting for one tidbit of news on what was up and what was going on.
It's not about wanting our life to turn to normal, or not see updates anymore, it's about getting sick of the media grab that has caused the same "news" to be replayed a million times - especially when that news consists of a video of people jumping out their windows replayed 50 times a day. If they'd start turning to showing the news that actually IS news instead of playing the same thing they've been playing for days on every station and every news show I wouldn't mind.
It's gotten to the point where we keep the tv turned off most of the time, and I turn to the 'net for news instead, just because then at least you have a choice of when you are subjected to the news, besides that, websites are usually clearer and more succinct :)

Danustouch... beautifully said. My thought is, if you don't like it.. turn it off.. whats the point in complaining about it?
I, for one, am never going to go back to the way I was before all this happened. There's no possible way.

I know what you mean, Willow. It got to the point where we just had to turn off our TV. Yesterday, as a family, we went to a TreeFest. We walked around & admired these beautiful old trees. It was very calming & relaxing. Just what we needed to get ourselves back.
I think the ultimate tacky would be if Chevy Suburban uses this in a car commercial!

Treefest huh? That sounds fun! Wish I had something other than work to keep my mind off things. I don't think the trees around here are old enough to hold a festival for them.

Oh fantastic idea! Why didn't I think of that! Oh wait, I did :D
Wild : sounds lovely. Today I ended up spending the day listening to old CDs, then went and visited a friend to chat about daily mundane stuff for hours. It was great.

I too are tired of the images and repeated information. I'm also tired of the unfounded rumors. Certain things should not be reported until they are a fact. Especially when it comes to possible victims being found alive! I haven't watched the news for a few years now. I find the images too disturbing and negative. Instead I read the paper and get updated from the web. I choose what I want to expose myself to. My husband and I have been bickering because he keeps turning it on and we have an 8 year old, who dosen't need the overexposure. But for those of you who do watch the news, have faith, they will be back to the same old bull S#!! soon enough!!

Hi all!
Yes,I know what you mean. We've had previous experience with the phenomenon here in OK.You can just get tired of it all, seeing it all the time,on every station. The Murrah building was really bad, every day with rumors etc,one got desensitized. Then we all started telling really grisly jokes, and kind of felt bad after. We had tv reporters going on for weeks about some poor souls leg they'd found and how no one knew who it belonged to.
Then there was a mile wide tornado that stayed on the ground for 39 miles and destroyed a lot of this town, this neighborhood.May 3,1999.We got so tired of the frenzied reporters asking everyone anything just to fill up their news.We finally figured out that if one didn't cry or thank jesus for saving just them, they'd leave ya alone.By the third day or fourth day,we just wanted them out of our way, folks started getting angry at them.
So you turn the thing off.Go outside.Heck, the Fall equinox is Thursday, look at this beautiful time of year.
But we don't forget these things. They stick with us.When the sky gets dark, its a bit menacing to me.When a truck parks too close to a government building,I want out of there fast! And now, when I hear a plane,I look up,just to be sure. And we remember people.
And when these reporters start talking the grieving and closure type things. It can go on for months, years,as a lead new story. It seems never ending. You just finally start tuning it out over time.
Peace and Love

It would be nice to be able to "just turn it off," but the only way to hear any NEW news (if we get some) is to go through the same ramblings over and over. I, like apparently everyone else, am a bit (hate to admit it, being that it's such a devistation) BORED with the coverage. But, I've got to find out what is going on, in the world and in my city, by listening to and watching the same stories and footage.

[snip]  You mean some networks are doing that??? Maybe I shouldn't be surprised, but you really do see LESS of that sort of ... "commercialization" I guess... on Canadian networks. I haven't seen ANY examples of this yet, and I am so, SO sorry you had to see and hear that! *covers Ill's eyes and comforts him* There there, we'll take away the nasty wasty bad songs... :p
That just sounds like the ultimate in disrespectful cheese to me. Blech.

They do it here on one of the radio stations, it's getting a little annoying, because whoever mixed it didn't do them right, cause Pres. Bush's words are flowing over into the songs, and you miss half the first verse.

that footage anymore without special permission from the executive offices of the network. I agree that for those of us who work all the time-it was helpful then.
