I would like to know how many of you Read tarot, and at what levels. :D
I also want to suggest that it's been a while since anyone has read for the Victim's List. I am going to try to do readings this week....hopefully tonight and tomorrow night. <crossing fingers that nothing comes up!>

Have you had the opportunity to go back through the threads? There is also a section "STUCK" at the top of this forum entitled "A Course in Tarot" that gives the meanings of the cards. ....and the best way to learn the cards, is to do TONS of readings.....even if you are unsure, inexperienced, and timid about it! The only way to build confidence is to experience the cards in action! :D ....and everyone on the list is more than willing to be a guinea pig! :D Just remind them in the beginning that you are very new to it!
If you would like some ideas about how to remember keywords, just let me know! I have an idea or two! :D

I would love to have more practice at reading. I wonder if the victim's list should be revised? It's nice to get feedback for the readings.

How do you suggest revising the Victim's List? They are all more than willing to receive a reading. Just PM them when you have done one for them, and let them know you would like feedback. :D

September 18th, 2001, 02:32 PM
Well I think you should start a new victims list, because there are members on it now that don't come around MW at all anymore, much less this forum.
I know we can PM people, but I would think most would have the courtesy if they asked for a reading to take a peek back here. After all the icon is white when there's new messages, so it's not hard to see there's a new message and come and check. I just think people who are doing the readings are already being so nice as to help out it doesn't seem fair to expect them to notify members too because the members don't check themselves.
We're even told to put a certain topic for our thread so it's obvious who the readings are for, so in that case I think members would at least take a peek.
Besides that, I've turned private messaging off for other reasons, so I can't PM people. So does that mean I can't do readings?

Willow,
Of course you can still do readings! We MORE than welcome the help! :sunny:
I haven't had time to check and see who is still coming to the boards and who hasn't been around in a while.
They have asked to be on the list, and I know many of them just lurk.
Maybe if they have an e-mail address posted in their profile, we could just e-mail them their readings instead of posting them in the forum, unless their preference to have them posted here has been stated?
I know it's frustrating! ....and their are alot of people on the list! I'll talk to the other moderator's and see what we can do about it! Hang in there!

I agree with you both.. I think the list should be moderated a little but understand that, that job in itself is a big job and probally not worth doing... as peolple come and go all the time here... It would just be typical that you take them off because they havent been here in month's and then they come back and say 'hey why have you taken me off the list..'..
Maybe when we do draw one cards for the list we should draw for the people who we know are about and contactable.. then if anyone else wants one they tend to ask anyway dont they :) or we can explian the situation briefly ~ 'If any other vicitms or un-victims would like a reading please pm me or sign up here'...
I havent draw any cards for a while here so I will too try my best to find some time and read for everyone who's about next week :)

I lack confidence too :)
I feel more confident reading for others, though. Well, maybe confident is not the right word- but I feel better about my readings for others than when I read for myself. I still haven't touched my cards since last week. I really need to that.

Back in November of 99 I experimented some with the Tarot, my roomate at the time let me use her deck whenever I wanted. I got to feeling pretty comfortable with it, still had to use the book though lol.
Then during the middle of this just past summer I finally got a deck of my own. Unfotunately I didn't like it all that much and therefore didn't practice.
Tonight I finally got my new deck, the Sacred Circle Tarot and boy does it speak to me. I've already done one reading with it which proved this to be the right deck for me.
Now that I have a deck that I like and connect with I want to practice as much as possible. So if anyone would like me to do a reading let me know.

Well..in the last few days...i've done about five readings. And I'm willing to do more this weekend. So I don't have a problem doing it. I just find that they come out more accurate, and more easy, when they are done in AIM or some kind of live chat method, than they do simply by me choosing a couple of cards. I have a little suggestion though....if we could have a stuck thread, right under the victims list...where people could list a general theme they want to know more about, when they receive readings. of course, they could always update it. In other words....I would put..
Focus: Love
Focus: Family
Focus:Career.
Something to that effect. Since it helps me more, to give readings, when I have the personal live feedback from the querants...knowing what to zone in on when I DONT have that contact..would be a great help. if that makes any sense....

I think we could do that. What if I just put that info in on the Victim list....that way, we know who is still following things here in the forum.
*********Hear Ye! Hear Ye! All Tarot Vicims.....
If you would like to continue to have your name on the Victim List, send me via PM the FOCUS you wish your readings to consist of! When you wish to change your Focus, PM me also!
I will give the Victims 2 weeks to reply, then I will delete those who haven't replied to me.
Make sure you (the Victims) also give feedback as to the accuracy of the readings! It helps us tremendously!********
I think this is the simplist way to update the list. I know that will make Willow happy. ;) I was just trying to figure out a way to update the list without a ton of work going into profile and checking when their last posts/visits were to MW. Hopefully this will narrow down the hugh list we have!

I'll Pm you Dagda, I would like to stay on and always try to give feedback, I know how important it is.
I read cards as a job and for my own enjoyment. I'm pretty good at it but could always stand to improve so I'm always up for new suggestions and have found some interesting and useful tips here. Although for the last few months I have really been cutting my number of readings down to practically nothing and am not really reading for myself either. I'm just spread really thin lately and don't have the time to devote to concentrating and meditating like I need to. Once I can get my life back on track I'll catch up and give some readings for the victims list. I feel bad that I really just lack what it takes right now.

I am new here and haven't been through all of the sections, but thought I would come read through the tarot section. I have been reading for about 10 years now, and had an on line business going for awhile. I have had to change it to hobby instead of business because I have found that the competition is very high on line for readers. Even if you offer a lot of different spreads and cheap prices along with other stuff.
I think that it is great that you all help out victims and others that ask for readings here. And, offer classes and other information to everyone. I think that along with a lot of practice with people that are open minded is the best way to become confident in your ability to read. I have two decks but mostly use The Witches Tarot.
Good luck to all of you that are still learning and are building your confidence up. I'm sure that with time you all will be great.
Blessed Be,

hmmm... iNtErEsTiNg. Actually, all that can be said for me is that I have a deck of Tarot cards and introduced some friends to the Tarot. That's it, but once in a blue moon, I actually get some readings correct.

Well, when I first started, they scared me, because they almost spoke to me...I'm sure that to anyone else that would sound as though I was fit for the looney bin,but now I even read stones(Native).I'm a Native healer as well as spiritualist.Sometimes my gifts still scare me, but it's nice to know I don't walk this road alone....

I started reading about half a year ago, but I've slowed down on my practicing since then. 8O Before, I was pretty good at it, but unfortunately, my cards have stopped talking to me as much as they used to and I feel a bit distant from my cards. :wah:
In the store that I got my cards, they didn't have a big choice, just Rider Waite and some other deck (I can't remember now which one it was, but it was in a pink box). From the beginning when I was researching the Tarot online, and looking at the different decks that online stores offered, I kinda felt distant from the Rider Waite deck (I bought that one, by the way). I figured it would be a good idea to get the Rider deck, rather than the other one, cuz it was supposed to be easier to learn on, although now I read that you should get a deck you feel comfortable with. Now I'm trying to save up some money and get myself a new deck (either the Diamond or Spiral deck.. both which I like and feel somewhat connected to) and I will get back into practicing my readings!! :D :) :D :)

Urgh... kind of, like, don't remind me. There was a toss up between the Rider Waite and The Robin Wood Tarot when I first trying to decide-- ahhhh! I bought the Rider Waite one and have been screaming about every other day. Of course, there are certain cards I absolutely adore in the Rider Waite Tarot and detest in the Robin Wood-- I am thinking about saving up enough to buy the Robin Wood and interlacing both.

Dagda Moon~Lily
October 19th, 2001, 08:58 PM
That's the beauty of Tarot! You don't have to "know" the meanings! I like to think of Tarot Cards....as Art. You look at it, you decide what it means.....what it brings out in you....in that lies your interpretation! :D It's not what the cards mean according to a book. That's the Author's interpretation. I don't always agree with author's interpretations.
Tarot, open to interpretation. ;)

Yeah, I was kicking myself for the longest time when I couldn't read the cards at all. Nothing was speaking to me, although last night when I attempted a reading for the first time in literally months, I FINALLY could understand what they were trying to say to me. :D I'm still saving up to buy the Spiral or Diamond tarot through some online store.. (I can't wait....I've been wanting either of those decks for the longest time now.. I just have to find out how much they cost again, me and my forgetful nature....)

I agree with Dagda on just looking at the tarot cards and saying what you see from them. That is how I am teaching my oldest, I just flip them and ask her what do you think it means. I'm hoping by doing that with her while she is young, that it not only teaches her how to read and follow her intuition..but keeps her from being hung up on the books. I still use my books, even though I know better. lol
But I think it is a matter of what you become accustomed to and comfortable with. Granted some of them I do change the meaning from the book on, because I don't feel at all what the author is saying. But I think that all tarot readers should use what feels right to them, if that is just flipping the cards or if it is looking it up. Because ultimatly what feels right to you is what makes you confident and a great reader. If you are scared of saying what you are seeing, or lack that confidence, you will block the messages (however they may come to you), and that keeps you from being the best you can be. In every aspect of your life and abilities.
Flaire I have heard many tarot readers say they carry a card with them a day or sleep with their cards to build that connection with them. When I am buying a deck, I always go with the one that draws me to it. I have never liked the Rider deck..the cards have no meanings at all to me. But some love that deck, it is all a matter of connection. I haven't seen the other decks that you mentioned, do you have a site with pictures of them? I would love to see them. If they speak to you, then you should definitly buy one of them. I would buy one at a time so you have enough time to connect with each one. I had a hard time deciding what deck to use when I got my second deck. lol But I started dreaming about the second deck, so that is the one I use the most.
Well enough rambling from me. lol

8O It looks like Dagda beat me to it, but there are the links. hehe
Yeah, I just have to cough up the money somehow... Being unemployed isn't all that great sometimes. (UGH!) :G
I tried sleeping with my cards under my pillow for awhile, but they just got more distant when I did that (still seems wierd to me), but now I keep them in a drawer with my books... And for one thing, I've been able to interpret them better. I think they're happier with the books. :eyebrow: It's strange, I know, but it seems to be working.
ladyalpha, I should have been smarter than to go to the store I went to. I live in a real small town and I should have seen the lack of choices for cards coming at me. Guess I was just hopeful, but in any case, I'm going for ordering from an online store next time.

I understand what you mean about a limited selection. I got my first deck through a book club. It wasn't the deck I really wanted but it was the only one offered at the time. I got lucky though and the cards were great. I never slept with or carried my decks with me. I just held them and used them immeditatly and charged them with my energy. It works for me.. That's great that you have found a way to make them happy. Everything has energy and it needs to be in a place that vibrates the same kind of energy. One of the reasons that they could be happy there, is because your energy is tied to the books..when you read through them you are at peace, not in constant hurry mode, so the cards are sucking up that energy and now are connecting to you when you pick them up. Just my opinion though.
I went to the sites, those are nice cards. I want so many other decks. I figure by the time I get all the ones I want, I will be a collector of tarot. lol But I am a stay at home mom, so I don't have much money either. And when I do come into it, it seems there are tons of other things it can be used for instead. lol
Blessings,

When I get new cards, I do sleep with them under my pillow or on my neight stand right next to the bed. Oh the bizarre dreams I have had! lol I think the cards absorb your natural, at rest energy. Somehow they connect to the subcoscious. I've slept with particular cards themselves also. If I'm having trouble with a card, I sleep with it within my aura. Usually I will have a dream that is related to the main them of the card and dream of less obvious meanings too.
I carry my favorite deck with me most always. :D Other decks I have have different homes around my house. I have 3 decks on my computer desk, one on my night stand, one on my alter and 3 on my dresser. Yep, I have 9 decks. :D There are so many more that I want!.....so I guess I am a collector! :D
My first deck was the Rider/Waite deck. I was told that if you can learn to read them, you could read most any deck out there. It took me a VERY long time to be able to use them.....just because I got frustrated so much from being a "book-in-hand" reader. I wanted to get the readings right and didn't trust my intuition. Then, someone came along.....and told me to chuck the books. So, after some trepidation, I have left the books on the shelves and just jumped in with both feet! I've never been happier with my readings! :D

October 20th, 2001, 04:19 PM
That is what my new deck..The Witches Tarot did with me. I didn't sleep with them, but almost immeditatly after I bought them I started dreaming of them. I would have dreams of giving myself readings and the cards were so clear. Since then I use that deck constantly. I think it was their way of letting me know that I was suppose to use them, because I was having such a hard time deciding what deck to use when I read for others. In the dream I didn't use the book and did fine. I guess that was a hint too. lol I guess the reason I use my book is because of lack of trust that I am going to give the reading right. I am very accurate and get a lot just from feeling, which I have found is where I am the most accurate. The cards seem to just open up my intuition, and the cards give me a meaning (direction), and then I run with the energy from the person. I have no idea if any of that sounds right..hope it does though. :)
Dagda Moon~Lily
October 20th, 2001, 04:29 PM
To me, that sounds exactly what the cards should do for you .....and you for them! :D Made perfect sense to me! I just can't stress enough how important it is to read without the book in hand. As a reference, occassionally is fine.
I feel that it's equally important to get into the right "state of mind" to do a reading also.....open up your energies, meditate a bit....or take some deep breaths, say a prayer or light a candle. Something that tells the subconscious/intuition that it's time to surface and open itself for you. :D

About a week after I got my cards, I started having a few dreams about them too.. I thought it was kinda wierd, but in that time I started to do a few more readings than I had before. :D I haven't had that many dreams since, but I'm trying to keep up my reading them, so I don't lose that strange ability I have to read the cards I wasn't exactly connected to in the beginning. :) :) :)

Merry Meet and Welcome Home!
One of the "Stuck" threads is titled "Victim Reading List". This is a list of people that have "volunteered" to help out in the Tarot forum by letting our Readers/Students "practice" on them. They are the regulars here that love to request readings! ;) On the list is not only their name, but there Sun Sign, the Element assocated to that Sun Sign and what they would like there readings to touch on. :D

Most of the readings I do are faily accurate, but there are times when they just don't make sense. I would say I don't have a lot of confidence in my readings. Maybe it's because I keep changing the cards I use. lol I have to many decks to name right now. I have also used rune stones.
I wouldn't mind reading for others. What is PM?

October 27th, 2001, 11:39 PM
Well, PM means personal message to me, but I realize I speak a different language here...okie is hard to understand...lol
When I first began reading cards, I picked what people considered to be some of the more difficult decks, the Dragon Tarot and Tarot of the Orisha. I'm glad I did. For the first 3 years that I read, I kept a journal of ALL of the spreads I did; I would literally sit down at night and read cards, runes and Sweat Lodge cards for up to 4 hours a night. The runes were what I 'trusted', so I would throw a card reading, study the meanings using up to 4 books, write it all down, and then draw a rune for every card drawn. Soon, I was able to understand everything a lot better and I found the more I read for others the more my intuition kicked in and knocked down the barriers. I read for Bureau 21 on the phone lines. Occasionally I get a caller who is testing, or who is "stalling", doesn't really want to know what's going on but wants validation on some decision which has been made. These are the only difficulties I run into anymore; when I suggest they are stalling or are testing, they usually hang up. And really, that's fine by me../robbie

I used to use the runes a lot. I actually started using the runes before, well kindof at the same time I started reading cards. My son would get very angry with me cuz I would know what he was up to before he knew. He was going through a tough time, so it was good to know what was comng next. LOL Anyway, what I was getting at was that I used to compare the cards with the runes also, and it helped me alot too.
