My class last night was on durmming. I never considered it to go with ritual or raising energy or Paganism but it was awsome how easy it was in an unfamiliar group. The energy raised was cool.
It seems to be very popular among the pagan scene here in North Texas. I think they called it Tantric drumming or something.I'm not really sure as it was my night with the baby and I was tired and haven't discussed it with my husband yet. If anyone has any experience please share.

SAHM,
I do not drum personally, but see its value for many folks because it could be used as a mantra or with a mantra to aide in focus. I actually have used music to help in that sense and it is a very good aid to help focus in meditation.
P.S. Marge has a FLATTOP?!?!?! .... <GRIN>

Same here. I just feel awkward trying to drum, especially in a group environment. But when I'm by myself, I like to sing to draw energy. I sing different songs to draw different types of energy. If it's peaceful, loving, healing type energy I'm going for, then I stick to Sarah McLachlan, Jewel, folksy stuff. If I'm trying to get my butt in gear for any reason, I throw on the Black Crowes, Aerosmith, and classic rock. But if I'm going to the "dark side of the force", then it's time for Nine Inch Nails, Rage Against the Machine, and Limp Bizkit ("Break Stuff" is a personal fave).
And of course, you just can't beat Stevie Nicks to get your juices flowing, no matter what you're going for. ;)

Heehee Yep we drum lots down here in Austin. LOTS.
I'm not especially good at it or anything, but I do have two drums that I bring with me to circle and pagan getherings in general. I find it very trance inducive and extremely energizing. I love a good drum beat to get my juices flowing :D

I can see how that'd be useful, but I myself wouldn't. I've never been all that fond of drums.

I love drumming, and am fortunate to have a friend who is a semi-pro drummer (she performed today with the drummer from Rusted Root and had a great time, unfortunately I had to miss it because of a prior commitment). My friends and I get together for drumming as often as possible (usually works out to about once every other month). I have an assortment of frame drums of varying quality and expense ... I don't quite have a drum for every occasion, but it's pretty close!
Some are all-weather (synthetic head) drums, and a couple of very special ones I save for ceremony.
Especially this one:
