What must the people do with a shadows' book when the owner deads? Or what do you want to do with yours?
Sorry for my english.

Idril is asking what generally happens to a Book of Shadows after its owner dies. I imagine that it differs from person to person - I have not heard of any standard practice. I would probably pass mine along to my children.

I agree. I think that for the most part it is up to the individual. Some people will chose to pass it on to a family member, or perhaps a friend or even a student if they have been active as a teacher and mentor. I do remember reading that in some cases a Book of Shadows would pass to the coven upon the individual's death, but for most of us it is a matter of our own choice.

They are passed down to the next generation in my family. There were some ancestors that had BoS's taken back to covens after their deaths.I think that the past few generations were more solitary and not involved in covens so that could be the difference.

I'm heard that in some traditions a witch's BOS is burnt shortly after his/her death... But personally I want to pass my BOS on to my children in the hopes that they might use some of the information I gained during my lifetime.

My will stipulates that my Book of Shadows goes to one of my 3rd degree daughters or granddaughters (i.e. daughters of the Craft not of my body).

My Trad stipulates the book is to go to a 3* initate of my line to dispose of as they see fit. Alternately it is to be burnt before I die.

Well I think I'll pass mine on to my daughter (if and when I have one) as I plan to bring up my children as pagans.

Yeah, I read about that in Doreen Valiente's ABC of Witchcraft, Past and Present.

Personally, I think I would hand it down to a student, assuming I took one, as I don't plan on having children. Or, if I was in a Coven, I would pass it to them.

I suppose that if I did pass it along to my children, I would have to make sure they were initiated into my tradition first, since there's some oathbound material in there. Otherwise, I guess it would pass along to a covenmate.
