I have nothing against British accents, but it's so hard to get speaking in one. I have an audition tommorow, in which I MUST speak in a British accent, as it is a British comedy. I keep getting an aussie accent mixed up on some words. Anyone have any pointers or tips on how to pronounce words?

Heh heh. Watch Red Dwarf a lot. :)
British accents are hard to do though because there are so many completely different accents. (Hmm ... kind of true for a lot of countries I guess.) I guess watching Are You Being Served at least would help pick out several unique ones.

Play TIE Fighter for about 10 hours. The Imperial briefing officer has an impeccable british accent. "You will be flying a Tie Advanced on this mission. You will have no wingmen. Your craft will be armed with the standard armament of 16 concussion missiles...."
god I love that game

...HA!HA!HA! From an aussie perspective, we always thought north americans had trouble perfecting a decent aussie accent and could easily do a very good british accent whether it was english, scottish or irish. To many of us aussies, whenever we watch a movie or a tv show with some trying an aussie accent, it seemed a mix of english, kiwi (new zealander) and aussie that we don't know whether to laugh , cry or be angry. So it seems that you guys really like our accent and find it easy, that's very surprising as I always thought that is was one of the harder accents to master but thanx for liking us and our accent (sometimes we aussies find the accent cringe-worthy when hearing it from one of our own on (esp american) film or tv)........
....but I must agree with the others, watch british tv shows, play the Star Wars games (and even watch the Star Wars movies) hopefully these will help you with "those dang british accents" of which there is so many........
 KEEP YOUR CHIN UP & :sunny: GOOD LUCK for the audition, :boing: HOPE YOU GET THE PART.........

in a past life, I lived in a place where I had a quasi-british accent. . . and sometimes when I get really pissed I start talking in an accent and I don't know why LMAO but I couldn't tell you how to do it for the life of me, except imagine your mouth more hollow and round. . . if that makes any sense. Imagine you've got something hot on your tongue ^^;; I dono

Aussie accents are great. But when I'm at my Aussie home, I not only hear everyone speaking with it, but I hear the accent in my thoughts. Drives me MAD sometimes! Not only that, the guys in the band I work with are Aussie's. I'm freaking surrounded.
Rent an English movie or one with a Brit in it and try to mimic the actor's accent. That's my best guess on how to master it. Or watch Nigel on Discovery channel. He's got a resonably easy accent to mimic. I saw his show last night, it's cool.
Good luck!
