Personally I wouldn't dscount the possibility of paranormal stuff freaking your dog. Both my cats do similar things sometimes, but if they see something they attack it. At first I thought maybe it was a bug, but I didn't see even a gnat.

that sounds a lot like what i have read about animals and paranormal visitations, it does seem like there was a ghost or something in the room with you. animals are supposed to be able to see things people don't. Did you notice any change in temperature or any other subtle changes in the room?

dogs are usually the first to pick up anything paranormal. they're very sensitive to those such things. when my dog was living, she was very very prone to spotting things I couldn't see. If she ran out of the room wimpering, I was definately going to follow.

My dog sometimes barks feircely at walls or nothingness every once in a while. And the curious thing is that when it comes to people he only barks that way at those that are....not nice or good.
Dogs are weird.

It probably was a ghost of some sort. I know that my puppies, when I first moved to Idaho, would freak out at the ghosts when they would show up. The ghosts didn't like us at first, but when I started talking to them a little, they calmed down a lot (I think mostly because the 'good' ghost managed to shun the 'bad' ghosts into the upstairs for the most part), and my puppies didn't get scared half as much.

When I was young I had a dog who would stare or bark at nothing in perticullar. I thought he was a strange dog untill I got my cat a few years back.
He will be looking off into space then all of a sudden do the hunched "halloween cat" thing and take off. Ok I thought he is a starange cat.
Well not too long ago I got a puppy. He accutally helpped me with a nastie that was in my house. He is definatly not afraid at all.
Last night my dog was staring behind me and for lack of better terms, following something behind me. I was a bit freeked out and told whatever he was looking at to leave. The dog plopped down at my feet and went to sleep.
Also there have been instances where the dog AND the cat have been staring at the SAME SPOT. hummmmmm...

My dog has done that a number of times. He barks at absolutley nothing and it scares me because I know something is there. So I leave the room. lol

Our dog Buster didn't usually bark at visiting spirits, but he would sure sit up and watch them.
