I just got out of a wonderful hot shower. I was thinking about the many things that we tend to take for granted that many people don't have in this world.

Hot running water
TV
Radio
Lots of food available
Homes
Good transportation

That's just a few things that we tend to take for granted there are also things we no longer take the time to see. The magic of a world covered in the crystaline newness of snow. Flowers unfurling thier petals filling the world with color. The light of a smile in someone we love.........The list goes on. I thought it would be nice to think about these things now and then and try looking at the world around us once more with fresh eyes seeing the wonder that we once found as children seeing things for the first time.

Looking throught the eyes of my 3 year old I see...

The amazement of geese flapping their wings to take flight...
The wonder of thunder and lightening...
The comfort of falling asleep in mommy and daddy's arms...
The deliciousness(sorry I don't think that's a word) of the first lick of an ice cream cone...
The beauty of a clear night lit up by millions of stars and a full moon...

These are all things my 3 year old gets excited about and I just think it the most innocent thing. :)

I was actually having this discussion yesterday. I said the one thing I've always taken for granted is this country we live in... Being born here and after the civil war I never really understood how important it was that there are people who fought and died for our freedom. Now we are in the position to have to defend it and it really makes me wake up and say thank you to all the people who support and fight for our country. Without them my daughter would not be able to play outside or attend college or who knows what else.

My daughter drew a picture at school on Thursday, it said... I am free to pick flowers, I'm an American.

I'm very thankful for that.

yvonne,

i take none of those things for granted! i think that the miracles of science and technology are extentions of the magical nature of our natural world....... an electron hitting a tube of gas making light is no less magical than the magestic rainbow, IMHO!

I'm glad you still see the magic in the world around you so many people have stopped seeing it.

i enjoy life's simple pleasures, like having nobody shooting at me for a long, long time now. pretty girls are nice too, and kittens, and a glass of tullamore dew now and then. books are good too, and a good cup of coffee in the morning. a warm wife to cuddle up to is very good. seeing my daughter happy with a good man is also very good. even my friends all over the place in my computer are good and so is the rain that's falling outside right now...

(and if it wasn't raining right now i'd probably be up on the roof playing my fiddle...)

How about coming home at the end of a long day and not being surprised that your house is still there.. not blown up, not trashed... and that everything works... electricity, heat, running water... It means you have a whole lot of civil stability in your life that many many people around the world don't have... and that is such a wonderful blessing. bb talamh

Or going to pick up your kid from school and having him run to you with open arms, like he is surprised you really came back for him!!! I have to treasure this while I can...soon he will be embarrassed that I am there to pick him up!!!

Not having children of your own...but having family members whose young children do that 'high pitch happy sound' when they see you! :)
Moonlight touching new fallen snow making it look as if diamonds littered the ground.
Hugs from your Mom even though you are 34...lol, love those.
Air conditioning on a muggy sticky day.
Hummingbirds who come up and inspect you, realizing that you are not a threat, they strike up a small conversation.
So many little things that you actually can tear up by the joy of them.

We are indeed blessed to have 2 eyes to see with,2 arms to hold with,2 legs to walk with, our health and strength is also a blessing.Have a roof over our heads, the internet access, people to love and be loved by,friends to share with. These are also simple blessings that many take for granted as well.

The freedom to think and say pretty much what we want to, to be able to practice our religions as we choose to, this is something people in many parts of the world don't have and I think we often take for granted.

How fun is this old post!?! He doesn't run to me with open arms but he is still very excited to see me and he hurries to the car and hugs me when he leaves etc. Good hugs!:heartthro _pounce_

So very true!

Five families lost their homes and everything they own to the recent fire here last week so, yes...one really does think of all of the things we take for granted every day!
Every little thing.

Walking, breathing on your own, smelling the flowers, taste...sight...feeling....all of these things can be taken away in an instant!
We get so used to day to day life...routine...that we forget to stop and be thankful of all we have and are!

I have and still do take things for granted, we all do. Maybe its not always the obvious things but we still do. I do try to realize how lucky I have it. Yeah I may not be spending money like I drink water but I've acctually got money, a home, running water, television, electricity, clothing and much more. So many don't have those luxuries and yes they may not seem like luxuries all the time but if you sit and think about it they are. Millions don't have a fraction of what I have in everday life. I'm very lucky, and I'm very thankful for it. Every now and then I sit and think "What would my life have been like if I'd grown up in a third world country?".

Yeah, alot of people do take those things for granted. In the military though, these things are some of the most important to us (in terms of luxury items, not necesity).

Not always do we have TV, Radio, Hot Running Water, abundance of food, homes or Good transportation.

TV, radio, hot running water and homes (unless you call a tent a home) are some of the first things we give up on a feild exercise when it comes to most units. Abundance of food? Well, scheduled meal times and the cooks decide that one. And for us? Transporation falls more for safety than good. As long as you have some boots and can walk, you have good transportation. At least imo that is how things are for us.

Beleive you me though, we love our stuff when we have it.

Yeah, living with my hubby who came from one of the poorest and least educated in the world (Afghanistan), I'm reminded time and again how lucky I've been. I've been pretty poor before, but I've *always* had food, clothing, shelter, education and medical attention if I needed it. I've always had loved ones who, if I needed to, could be reached and help me out.

*prayers and energies for all of Katrina's victims*
