Hmm. I don't know about Sokar, but I think later on he was made synonymous with Wesir...Set(although I might be misunderstanding what you said) is definitely not any form of Wesir ;)
For Set information - www.per-set.org is a great source. I'm sure Ses will see this thread, and as she knows far more than I do, she can probably point you towards more :)
looking for Sokar information...
what Kemet.org says:
Sokar (Seker; G/R Sokaris) - "Adorned One" An obscure Name in its beginnings, Sokar is depicted as a hawk-headed mummified man and was originally Lord of both darkness and death (in the sense of inertia and inaction) in the region of Mennefer and especially in Ankh-tawy ("Lady of Life," a name given to the large Memphite necropolis now known as Saqqara). Sokar eventually came to be viewed as a mysterious form of Ptah, and in very late periods was triply syncretized to become Ptah-Sokar-Wesir, the penultimate lord of death, judgment and burial. The sacred boat upon which Sokar's icons were carried in procession (called henu), is one of the earliest-mentioned of such boats in the Kemetic scriptures, and may have served as a model for later sacred barques.

I always recommend www.pantheon.org for researching deities. It's one of the best sites out there.

I just recently got a book (like today from Amazon.com...was amazingly fast to coem back from school and see it hehe) called 'Encyclopedia of Gods' which Lists Sokar as an ancient God of Darkness, closely associated with Osiris as a God of Death. Apparently he had a cult of his own in Thebes who had an annual festival. its a good book, it's discussed on another thread in the Gods section. Thanks for the info...im now rather annoyed at Stargate *shakes fists*, but in a loving way...:). Namaskare

Being interested in the Egyptian Gods and being annoyed at Stargate go hand in hand, now don't they? I myself am perpetully annoyed with the fact that they make Anubis SUCH a jerk. I have always loved Anubis and always will, so I don't really like their portrayal of our deities.....but hells, it's a damn fine TV show nonetheless and I'm sure the Gods get a laugh out of it at times ("Hey, Ausar, they finally got you out of that British chick!" "FINALLY! I never really liked the whole cross-dressing thing...")
Yes, I'm odd.
Set, while being quite a bastard at times, has a VERY important role in the essential divine order of things. It is he who stands are the prow of Re's solar barque and fights off Apep, the serpent of darkness, whle the solar barque travels through the Underworld.
I wonder whatever happened to Set and Horus' baby....? I know Set got pregnant by Horus (honestly, that's the funniest story I have ever heard about the gods) but I never found out what happened to the baby?
Ever since I read that story, I can't eat horehound candies without getting the giggles.

From my experience, the Gods think shows like Stargate (and by extension Hercules) where They are portrayed are quite funny. and if that leads people to seek Them out, so much the better!
I "asked" Aphrodite one time what she thought of how she was portrayed on the Hercules show. She replied that she thought the actress playing her was doing a good job, but needed to put out more :P Plus Aphrodite really liked that dress that the actress wore and was planning on creating one for Herself . . .

There's also this, from the HoN forums(
this thread (http://www.netjer.org/forums/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=96307&page=&view=&sb=5&o=&fpart=1&vc=1), six or seven posts down )
...antique Greek authors heard about how Set killed Wesir (which in essence is necessary, for if the grain isn't cut(=dies) and is buried(=sown), there will be no next life(=new crop)...

If I had any real relationship with Re, I'd ask him what he thought of the protrayal of him in the Stargate movie.....Now him and the wonderful Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII are without a doubt THE most elegant villains EVER.
Does anyone know just what it is that Set is represented as having the head of? Did the ancient Egyptians even HAVE donkeys?
.......gives a whole new level to calling someone an 'asshead', eh?

Hmmm....I dont even think the ancient Egyptians knew what Setesh's ghead was...probably some horribly deformed dog...or even an anteater, there is a story that they found cannibis in a Pharoah's body...which is no surprise until you think that pot originated in Meso-america and wasn't around in the middle east...until the spanierds went over there.
LOL, I hate to say it but that Aphrodite child is a very lusty old gal...a little like Madame ;). But hey, i dont see any horrible catastrophes happening with shows like Stargate and Hercules...although the followers of Krishna made a rumble when he was portrayed on Xena...anyway...yes, Stargate annoy, but in a loving way (the storyline is pretty good non the less...)

Yep.....it still is a good show. And it's on tonigth! Hurrah!
I think they've also found cocaine in some of the Pharaoh's bodies. The theory goes that it may have been used as an anaesthetic for their horrible horrible tooth pain. Having never done coke, I can't say anything about its numbing properties, but I can sort of imagine it.
