Greetings! My name is mol, which stands for Madman Of Light. This is what I call my Magick name because it what chosen for me by the God and Goddess upon completion of self-dedication ritual. I will be conducting this class. The subject...Magick.

Many people will tell you that you cant learn the principles and art of Magick in this medium. Well, they are wrong. You can learn anything and you can do it any way you feel comfortable. I find online classes to be relaxed and the people are usually very insightful. This does not mean that there will be no discipline. In fact, to learn the Magick you will have to adhere to a system of discipline that you might find very difficult at first. Dont worry, soon it will become part of you.

Now, for this class you will need some things.

One. You will need to visit these forums often enough to keep up with the flow of information. During the course I will lay certain tasks on some of you. When these tasks are to be done. i will expect them to be done in a timely manner.

Two. You will need a Tarot deck. Yes. A Tarot deck. You dont have to be a master, in fact, you dont have to know anything at all about the Tarot. This will be taught. Of course, there is a Tarot class going on right now in the Tarot forum. So you can always be in both classes. The Tarot is a very important part of Magick and you will learn things beyond "giving readings."

Three. This is not a requirement, but i am going to use a textbook to guide you through the learning process. If you want to buy the book to follow along...then do so. If you dont want to you dont have to. i will give all the needed information. The book is called "Modern Magick - Second Edition - Eleven Lessons in the High Magickal Arts" it is written by Donald Michael Kraig. This is a textbook that is used in metaphysical courses and I deemed it the best choice to use as a lesson book for this class.

Thats all you need. Now here are some of the things you are going to learn in this course.

You are going to learn the fundamentals of Ritual Magick.
You are going to learn the fundamentals of the Kabalah.
You are going to learn the philosophy behind Magick.
You are going to learn about various topics including the Tarot, divination, the history of the Tarot, the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram, the Banishing Ritual of the Hexagram, the Middle Pillar Ritual, the Circulation of the Body of Light, the Watchtower Ritual, meditation, the Tree of Life, the Three Pillars, the Four Kabalistic words, the history of the Kablah, astral traveling, pathworking, healing, Magick Rituals that you can design for any purpose, and more.

We will be drawing a bit off of the Golden Dawn system of Magick. The focus will be that Magick ties into any belief system. Magick is more than a tool, it is a way of life.

Now, I bet you are thinking...he sounds like an old school teacher. Well, the reason I am doing this is to teach a little bit of discipline to those who do not possess it, yet. Like I said, this class is going to be a little different from the other classes here. We will still have a good time, but the focus will be on Magick and tasks that are given to you. Now, I will give everyone a couple of days to make sure you can obtain a Tarot deck. if it is impossible for you to get one then let me know. You can still benefit from this course...but I need to know who does not have a deck. So for now, let us prepare.

Your first TASK. EVERYONE.

Get a Tarot Deck (Should be based on Rider/Waite or a deck you are very familiar with. All beginners...Rider/Waite.)

AND

Memorize this:

To Know,
To Will,
To Dare,
To Be Silent.

You dont have to buy the Book..but if you want it should be in any big bookstore or occult shop. You can probably get it at amazon.com . A Tarot is is a deck of cards used for Divination and other purposes (That is the easy explanation.) You can buy those at most bookstores as well. And Pagan shops. There are many Pagan shops on the web...if you need help finding these items just let me know here and I will help you out.

Do not be discouraged if you are not able to get one. As mol stated, he can work around that...

I see some of you are already becoming discouraged by certain issues surrounding this topic. Please don't, read what mol wrote closely.

He may hold strict guidelines for this class, but it is for a reason. Do NOT let that scare you off, stick with it and forget about the MONEY.

If you think you must spend money to learn about Magick then you are lost already...

Absoultely. Now. Let me do this again! :) The Book is not needed, if you want to get it...then do. The Tarot deck IS needed, but if you are unable to get one...then we can work around that. No problem. Ok?

And about the cost...geesh...I dont know how the $ translation would go but around here you can get them for about 15 to 25 dollars. (?) I think. Its been a while since I bought one.

Just a thought on the cards for those of you unable to obtain a deck. Like I mentioned before we will be posting pics of all the cards and if you have access to a printer perhaps you could print the pics. I know they wouldn't be standard size or texture but you could have them handy to look at anyway. not sure if that would require some kind of transfer into a more printable format???? maybe Mol has some ideas on that one.

Yes. You can make due with that. That will be fine for the learning process. I do encourage you to try and obtain a deck, though. But, like I said, for study purposes that will work out just fine.

We are going to try and get those kinds of items in there, yes. But, it will be a little while. So, for this class, you can either do the "print" technique (Like Rosy) or you can go buy one from a bookstore.

and atlantis, please dont refer to zephyr or polaris by their birth names either because they have chosen their names for a reason. i'm sure you'll understand. ;)

Glad to have you...but now Im nervous! YOU should be teaching ME! :) I am sure we will all learn a lot from each other.

The course we will be taking is probably a little more ritualistic than most are accustomed to, but that is why I chose it. I think that it is very important to learn new things so that they can be integrated into your own Path. So, with that said...hope everyone is ready. Because tomorrow I will be posting Lesson I.

Love and Blessings!

*giggle!* Well .... There are so many different "ways" to do "magic", and I'm always eager to learn different ways to do anything ~ so here I am. ;-) Will happily interject as we go along, if that's kosher.

Don't be nervous!! I was, when I first started teaching. Totally blonde ~ where am i? what am i doing here? why am i doing this? i'm not qualified ~ yaddayaddayadda. LOL! But, thanks to a couple "crash courses", I realized that we learn by doing ~ and by teaching. It's interesting when the lines between Student/Teacher blur. ;-)

I agree. This is one of the reasons why I chose to teach this class. I really do think that I learn much more when I am teaching. And this is not just with Magick. I have been trying to apply this method in many areas of my life.

I am glad you are on board. Interject at any time. We just have to remember that there are many systems of Magick and NONE are the same. Heh. But, they usually all achieve the same end result.

May Love and Light surround you

Exactly right. I think too often, too many "forget" this. :-( It's something we should all strive to remember. There is no one "right" way to do most things.

As long as you are familiar with it. I recommend that veeryone use Rider/Waite (Because it is easy to learn from) but for all of you that have a deck and you are familiar with it...then by all means...use that one!

Welcome aboard, Rain!

I'm in too. I have the Witches Tarot and that one is as easy to learn with as the Rider/Waite. Or so that's what Ellen Reed says. Anyway, I am comfortable with this deck. Waiting for further instruction professor.

By the way, Jazzmine is the name I chose for myself when I was doing the lessons in Buckland's Complete Book of Witchcraft. That was a really good tutorial also. The name was chosen with numerology. But it also shows two other aspects of myself. Jazz shows that I love music. Used to be in choir in high school and was also in a small town band and sang lead vocals. And mine is the last for letters of my maiden name. Pretty cool, huh?

Excellent way of choosing a name. My name, Madman of Light, was given to me during my process of studying the process of Knowledge and Conversation with my Higher Self (Sometimes referred to as a Guardian Angel.) So, I had no hand in the choice...really.

Love and Light.

I also have to say this is very true. The tarot classes have given me the extra push I needed to get back into some serious study. I get off track so easily if I don't have others joining in. I really think the only way I got through nursing school was by studying with my friends. We could always explain things to each other. Inevitably one of us was confused in an area where the other was right on with the info. Except for blood gases and nobody understands those!!!

-- Posted by Litha on 7:00 pm on Dec. 31, 1969

I'm in agreement with that statement as well. As a student of astrology, I firmly believe that sharing knowledge with others will only help my learning process.
I try to think of Respiratory Acidosis as excess CO2 retention, Respiratory Alkalosis as excess CO2 excretion, metabolic acidosis as bicarb loss and acid retention and metabolic Alkolosis as bicarb retention and acid loss. That along with the reference values is one of the pieces of paper in my tiny drug book that I always keep on hand. Nothing like knowing what your looking at when your staring down a resident that needs a clue or two. Nothing like correcting one in front of the attending when they are surrounding you in a group, treating the nursing staff as if they come with the hospital like sheets and urinals. The mouth gape and unclouding of vision as they realize that the nursing staff is not only on their side in the desire to help and heal, but one of a trained and knowledgable discipline really cracks me up.
Working in a teaching hospital, this kind of thing happens on an ongoing basis. Just hope I don't lose my ER skills now that I'm Nursing Supervisor bound.
Getting people to work together towards a common goal is magical in itself.
Just like this site! :cheesy:

Litha,
Girl I know what you mean. Residents are a hoot! I love it when I call one to ask for an order for Tylenol or something simple and they want to know how much the kid weighs and I can hear them flipping through their drug books. I usually just prod them with a simple, "should I just order the usual dose we give?" They are pretty receptive to that. They are like most men in that they don't want to be told the right way to do things or the right answer. So, alas, to protect their egos we have to make it sound like we are simply offering a solution that we have seen used before, never letting on to the fact that we may actually know the proper dose to give, after dosing up kiddos like the ones we have at home!!!
anyway..don't mean to ramble on and totally lose track of the original topic. However dealing with some docs takes some real magik, if only to keep yourself from shoving their illegible orders down their throats!
btw, congrats on the new position..I know you will do well. If anyone intimidates you just start talking about astrology and throw them off with your vast knowledge!!
Semele
