Ok.......hey all, guess who needs your incredible knowledge once again? That's right, LOL, Isis.

Does anyone know what the meaning of the word BOCEPHUS? Is it a name, what's its origin? The whole nine yards, if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd greatly appreciate it.

All my love, and blessed be,

Well, Bocephus is the name of a Hank Williams, Jr. album, LOL! I don't recall why he used that, if it's a nickname of his, or what- I'm not a Hank fan.
I'm guessing he got that name from Flavius Josephus, who was a Jewish historian back in the times of Christ. He was a Pharisee and was born to royalty, I think. I don't remember a whole lot about him, learned of him in college. Josephus wasn't his real name, either. It was Joseph Matthias or something to that effect. I know he wrote some books and was a prominent figure in his day.

LOL, that cracks me up. As far as I know, Isis, I think Bocephus is Hank Williams, Jr's creation.

Hank Sr called Hank Jr that ... it wasn't a name he gave himself.

However, I suspected it had something to do with a musician, but always thought the word ACTUALLY meant something!! Thanks for asking!!!!

My family's name on my mother's father's side was Enochs. Now, this sounds like it came from Enoch/Enochian. What sort of culture used the name Enoch as a last name? We're Norwegian on that side, and I know our Norwegian name is Ingeset, so the Enochs name must have come from a family line I'm not familiar with.

(I know this doesn't exactly fit the topic, but I hope you don't mind my asking.)

Bocephus was the nickname given to Hank Jr. by Hank Sr.

Apparently there is now another:

"Bocephus King is a young roots-rocker from Vancouver, Canada. His debut album A Small Good Thing shows a lot of promise."

(found that in a google search)

I actually heard bocephus used by a clique of kids at my father's school. (He teaches.) Anyway, The way it was used, ("So-n-so Bocephus was more stupid than you can imagine today.") made me think it was the name for someone they thought was uncool. Kids can be so mean.

the only other places I've heard the name Enoch (besides Enochian) is from The Book Of Mormon, and also, I had a freind named Enoch who was from Central America (a lot of peolpe I know from Central America have names from the Book of Mormon, such as Alma, Enoch, Nephi, etc...) It may be an Mayan, Aztec or Spanish, I am not really to sure. Hope this helps some.

The name 'bocephus' is a cajun word of endearment like "honey" and "sweetheart".
