Im doing some research on this lailoken character, from what I can tell so far hes a scottsman whos legend was mixed with that of Myrddin to create the person we know today as merlin. I was hoping some of you here would have some sources for more information, as very little seems to be available online at the moment.

The name sounds familiar, but I'm spited to say that I am not enough read in the antiquities to remember anything. I really do not remember the name well. And this mixing with Myrddin talk is unheard of to my mind.

Peace.

By all the reseach I can find they were both driven mad at a battle between two nobile houses *particular clan/house changes* and driven mad, then they fled off into the forest and became bird man. Both gained the gift of prophecy from this, and both died a triple death by stoning, being stuck on a stake, and drowning.

I believe that Lailoken and Myrddin are probably two names for the same person. Have a look at the stories of St Kentigern, Lailoken is supposed to have had dealings with him.

The battle you mention was the battle of Arderydd, at which Gwenddoleu was killed. Historically, that has been placed in the 6th century.

For more info, one of the best sources is Nikolai Tolstoy's 'The Quest for Merlin'.

Blessings,
