Last night I took two newly purchased candles, one for positive energy and the other for housewarming (last night was the first night in two months I have spent a night at my ex's house I am trying to spend more time with him and maybe we can work things out, pathetic huh). Anyhow, I held them in my hands and my hands immediately got hot, not warm, but very hot. I wanted to drop them, but something stopped me from doing it. The moment froze in time as I looked down at these two candles wondering what was happening to my hands. I did an incantation and proceeded to light the candles. I have never had this happen to me before, can anyone offer some insight?

Hmm. Have you been playing Zork too much? ;) Wait, no that was the bell that got hot, not the candles. Heh heh.

Demented (if not geekish) humor aside though, it could have been any number of things. It could have been the house infusing the candles with it's energy in preperation for the housewarming. Or a spirit connected to the house doing the same. Or a left-over spell from a previous resident against invasive magicks from other persons than themself. Or a blessing from any number of entities. Or an expression of your unconscious feelings. Or swamp gas.

Wait, no, swamp gas is UFO sightings. Sorry. :)

I think to give you a more educated response you'll have to educate us more. ;) Such as how did you feel emotionally before it happened? How did it make you feel as it happened? How did you feel after it happened? Do you have any thoughts on why you weren't supposed to drop the candles? Did you get any impressions as you did the housewarming? So on and so forth. :)

I think that the heat you felt might have come from yourself, from whitin yourself... that perhaps it was your energy flowing out of your hands you felt... I don't know :)

Please tell us more though, it is really interesting :)

I agree with all that's already been said, and also say sometimes a banana is just a banana. As in maybe it was just a coincidence and your body flushed at that time anyway for whatever reason, or that you left the candles close to the oven. I dunno, could be a million things.

I don't know what happened, those candles burned exceedingly fast and sparked and crackled, more than most other candles I have had/have.

My thoughts at the time of lighting the candles was one of fear and just hoping to infuse positivity into a very negative household and situation. I asked the Goddess for strength I just wanted the house to be clear of all the pain and loss that ocurred in it. This house it infused with negativity, death (every family who has lived here has suffered loss, we've come to find out) there's alot of pain here, I felt it on my first night here. I've had alot of strange experiences in this place, aside from all the loss and hurt.

It's not a happy house and I was just trying to maybe help it get happier, or I should say whatever spirit resides here.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Hmm. It's hard to make an educated guess. I should be using my runes to help, but I didn't think of it until just now and they're still at home. Bummer.

My initial thought is perhaps the negative energy there is so strong that it is combative of any posative energy workings you do. Maybe you should try a cleansing before you try anything else, otherwise the negative energies will smother what few positive energies you can raise. Just a thought.

Would anyone there object to the smell of sage smoke? (There are of course other ways to cleanse things, but lately sage smudging is my favorite. Heh heh.)

is very often felt in the hands as heat ............
So I think it is entirely possible you were infusing the candles with intent.........and the energy from you was interacting with what ever
"sorrow " or other energy that was in the space....
I tend to stay away from calling energy "positive or negative" because that is such black and white label thinking ......... and I definitely dont come from a "combative" or antagonist " ideation....but I tend to attempt to get a real feel for whatever energy is there ...... and if it is sorrowful or angry .......if it something I can accept or stay out of........
that kind of approach .....is more conducive to healing...........smudging with lavender is good for sorrowful space.........keep us posted :>
ultimately it is your experience ........ and yours to learn from ......

Love and light
