Hi. I'm working on my BOS, and as always -when I get about half finished, I wonder - should I have done this or that or.....

So- I was wondering, of those who have their BOS on their PC, which format did you use?

Database, Spreadsheet, or Word Processor?

Well, my BoS is handwritten, but I have some parts of my BoS on my computor aswell. Anyways say you use database, that way it gets easy to search for whatever you are looking for, however word makes it easy for you to customize and design each page to your needs and desires. No matter which format you use all have the advantage of printing it out and taking it with you when you need it. :) For the computor part of my BoS, I choose word, because to me it felt important to design the page in some way (don't really know why)...

If I did it on the computer, I think I'd do it on Word....I :heartthro Word!

I like Word too. I think it's just easier to read. :) Most of my Pagan info is stored on my computer, and I use word for it.

Heh heh. Basic Text Editor. (AKA Notepad.)
Honestly though, most of my BOS is in my head, the second most is on paper, and the third most is on the PC.

Depends what you're looking for for organization, and how big the articles for your DoS need to be. For instance, the cells in a spreadsheet are quite small for posting such information, and you'd have a heck of a time scrolling through or finding your information too.

The word processor would be a bit better for organization if you kept each document named by a specific standard and in certain folders appropriately. Also, most everyone has some type of word processor so you could share your info easily.

The database could work well too if you have lots of information or need to share it elsewhere. But then to share you'd have to do some fancy footwork with PHP or something; you couldn't really just hand the document to someone and say "here, look", because not a lot of people have database software.

Mine's in Word. :)

Weeeeeeell... currently mine's in several formats. Bringing it all together is something that requires time, and what time I do have I've used on projects other than the ole BoS! :p

I do have a physical BoS. Some pages are handwritten, some are printed out or photocopied, depending on the source of the information. I know "purists" would probably be horrified at the thought of using a printer or photocopier!! :D

I also have some text files that I need to categorize and do something with. Most of them I intend to either keep as electronic files or copy them over by hand for placement in my BoS.

Also, I just recently bought an electronic BoS software package that some industrious person designed. It's got a decent interface backed by an Access database. It allows you to print things out, but it doesn't have any page customization. It also includes a large volume of information programmed into the BoS software. A lot of thought went into it and the development work is very good.

Anyway, so that's where my BoS project stands now. Something tells me it will never be quite contained, and will always have a life of its own... ;)

What's the BoS software called and where can I find it to take a look?

Hm that reminds me, I started to design one years ago. Maybe I should get that project back on track :)

My Bos (Box of Shadow) is a box that I've thrown in all the bits & scrapes of paper that someday I'll sort & put into the computer. :p I do have a handwritten journal, though. I've heard the arguement that using a computer is not very traditional. My reply is that who's to say that if the witches of old had the same resources we do, they wouldn't use it?
