********* Press Release ***********

Date: September 24, 2001
From: Pagan Unity Campaign (PUC)
Subj: Bless America Project
Dist: Please Distribute Unedited Copies Freely

Body: The Pagan Unity Campaign announces today the start of a new project
that deals with the use of the gender specific "God" in alleged interfaith
ceremonies that discludes Pagans or any faith other than Christian, Muslim or
Jewish paths.

Our goal is to do this in a manner that is respectful, non-divisive, and
supportive of all Americans. To achieve this goal, we have developed a new
"Goddess Bless America" T shirt that you can buy via our online store. Also,
we have developed a postcard campaign that expresses our diverse beliefs
during this tragedy.

However, this campaign is different from past PUC activities and will include
certain members of the mainstream media, specifically those who have come out
against Falwell's hate rhetoric.

We ask all Pagans to send postcards to the below addresses that read
"_________ Bless America" where each Pagan will write the name of the Deity
they work with the most. If you are a devotee of Sekhmet, write in "Sekhmet."
If you work with three Deities, send in three cards! If you only deal with
the "feminine", write in "Goddess."

We also ask you to add "Pagan Unity Campaign" and "paganunitycampaign.org" to
each card so the addressees can see that all cards are from a single source.

Please use postcards that have a picture from your local area. Cards with a
local museum, your city's skyline or "Welcome To Florida" type cards are also
encouraged. We want to show that these cards come from all over America and
from individual people. This is especially important now that we are
including select individuals of the mainstream media. However, please feel
free to add any other politician or media figure to your list, but PUC is
focusing on the below five more maximum impact.

Since the September 11 attacks killed almost a thousand people from other
nations, we invite non-US Pagans to join us in this project.

The mail date for this is October 2nd, the next Full Moon. We need to be
respectful to the victims, their families and all Americans and allow some
time for the pain to ease. Remember, if we cannot be supportive of all
Americans, this is not worth doing. However, we need to do this soon before
more egregious behavior can occur. We have a lot of work ahead to make this

THANK YOU XOIS. for posting this.......
At the risk of some oppositional feedback yadda yadda heard it already :nyah:
I am going to share my ideas on this......
Some time ago there was HUGE religious conference in South Africa. Supposedly all religions were to meet and greet and get ecumenical .......and in discussing this event and another televised event involving the heads of Western religions.... I could not HELP but notice that they were ALL MEN......
Now there were women at the South African Convention..... but none in a leadership position except perhaps ONE eastern woman, who has achieved MASTER status in a sect .
So in discussion on several boards I offered the IDEA that wouldnt it be NICE to see a WOMAN up there .... at the conference in there......at the convention on there on TV.. representing a "Goddess " religion......
Well. MY DEAR..... dont you know I was being sexist HOW DARE I...... why couldnt a MAN represent pagans YADDA YADDA ............I could not believe what I was reading ( well in some cases I could .....pagan man doesnt mean they arent sexist as I used to think )
And this from the same people who in some other discusiion would SWEAR that "all things are connected" every good pagan knows that , and wouldnt disdain to do a circle with JUST the goddess because that would be SO OUT of yes here it comes....... BALANCE...... that sacred pagan word ......
Just recently OPRAH and JAMES EARL JONES led a huge PRAYER FOR AMERICA.......... and again
all relgions were supposed to be represented.....
Guess who wasnt there........not a sign of a pagan anywhere.........
and I know that many will say well Oprah and James represent the Lord and LADY indirectly and subliminally and subconsiously..... as always and THEY DO.....really ........
and I know just as many will say who cares the prayers are the point ........and that is true as well......
but I personally felt left out.....and not represented as an American Neo-Pagan......
and this has nothing to do with the people stil in the closet...... there are many who who could have represented us and made it even safer for all......which it is not as yet......
I think we were left out because to many people we either dont have a presence ...as in they arent even aware .......that we exist.. or that we are serious.. despite recent gains.....
and to the issue of a WOMAN representing NOT LEADING but REPRESENTING (heard that one too about pagans dont have leaders )pagans ss a GODDESS Figure ......a COUPLE would be wonderful......maybe I should write OPRAH.....
maybe we are still too controversial to be included as a part of the nations spiritual presence.....
Love and light

Swan, "Pagan", as has been discussed many times here on MW... is a blanket term. It covers any number of seperate sects and many thousands of private un-aligned sole practitioners. It's very STRENGTH is it's lack of a centralized hierarchy that would only serve to impose order and rigidity on a faith that clearly draws its strength from diversity and creativity. The downside of this, is that you're not going to have a central "leader" figure like a Pope or a Head Rabbi to present a face to the rest of the world. You can't have it both ways, and as a card-carrying member of the world's most DIS-organized religion, I personally don't see why you would want to!
