MM,
would any of the older witches here like to be adopted as an elder? I know I posted with a couple who were older . I have people who are willing to adopt elders even if it is just to send a small gift or a card to say how much the elders of our faith are appreciated. If anyone would allow these people to adopt you , please, contact me . I can promise that your identity will not be revealed to anyone other than the person who is adopting you.

Thats an awesome idea, however it is my experience that they rarely would offer it up, you may have to track them down, pin them to the carpet and demand they be adopted. Most elders have too much in the way of humility and or pride (strange combination I know, but common among people who have been around a long time) to accept anything in the way you are working towards. Just start searching them out, find out what you need to in order to adopt them and then be tenatious. The couple of Elders I have had would fight you on it but appreciate and enjoy the gesture.

This wasn't my idea dear, this awesome idea was suggested by Isaac Bonewits. I just thought it was awesome too and when I asked some of my people they jumped at the chance to show anyone who is of the faith some appreciation. But, I have always found that awesome ideas come from awesome minds . Mine hasn't reached that stage yet. heeeeeeeee

I thought they were talking about how long you have been in the craft....not your real age.

How old do I have to be? Or does it mean well what does it mean? If I'm not old enough I'll adopt one.

You left out "grizzled & crusty"... not too sure about the "well reared" part... if my rear gets any thinner, I'll be sitting on bone... :veryweird

I tend to think that the innocence of youth possesses more wisdom than the fatal battles of experience.

Bumping this back up because a 63-year old man was found dead here a few days ago. He had been dead since last September and no one knew it. He had no family or friends. He had only a caseworker for social services who are not legally required to make contact with their clients, they only have to attempt to make contact. So he had a fatal heart attack last September and no one knew or cared.
This doesn't relate to Pagan elders, just elders in general. If you know of any older folks who don't get out much and don't have many visitors, maybe check on them once in awhile.

Quick question. Can elders adopt each other? FYI: I am nowhere near an elder (unless you want to talk soul-wise)

So, what constitutes an elder, anyway? Who decides what makes one person an elder, and another not?
I personally don't think it has anything to do with age or length of time in the Craft, but rather with wisdom, knowledge and enlightenment.
It's quite possible for someone to be in the craft for 20 years, and not be as wise as someone who's been in it for 5....doesn't happen often, but it is possible.
I think that an elder would never call themselves one. It's a distinction that's given to them by others. :)
