Experiencing the Goddess: One Woman's Experience - By Breanna
The call to the Goddess for me has always been very strong. It is as natural feeling to me as kisses from my child. To some however, the call to the Goddess is a new feeling. Some even feel a twinge of guild as they break away from conventional teachings that they have followed for so long to follow the stirrings which are deep within their hearts.
Some of our sisters (and brothers as well) wonder how can they experience the Goddess for themselves. What do they need to do. Well, I can tell you that experiencing the Goddsse is a personal expression, unique to each woman. I cannot tell you "how" to experience Her for yourselves, but I can share some of the ways that I as a woman, have felt Her.
One way to experience the Goddess is to first know yourself. We are all from the Goddess and represenative of Her in hHer most perfect form. She is within us. To love yourself is to love Her. This is part of the female mystery.
The song of the Goddess can be heard by listening to the wind as it russles through the leaves, the call of the birds and chirping of frogs and insects. Her voice can be heard in the rushing of the waters and the crash of the waves on the surf. Her deep throaty laugh can be heard echoing in the thunder. Can you hear Her sweet music?
You can smell her perfume all around you, each scent different and beautiful. It can be smelled in the thick, heady fregrence of the cool, dark woods in summer. The tart salty smell of the ocean spray is of her essence. You can smell her in the deep heated sands of the desert and the damp earth after a rain storm. Can you smell her sweet perfume?
The face of the Goddess can be seen shining in the full pale moon, her hair in the thickly cascating vines of honeysuckle and ivy. Her clothes change with the seasons with seasons. Deep green in summer, yellow, reds, and browns in fall, white or sparcly dressed in winter, light greens and pastells in spring.
Although to numerous to name them all, a few of Her signs and symbols can be seen in ravens, snakes, spiders and webs, does, cats and many many others.
The greatest experience for me with the Goddess was my pregnancy and birth of my child, although I seriously doubt the Goddess ever had to deal with morning sickness and a baby siting on Her bladder.
Creating an alter to honor the Goddess is as easy as placing a sea shell on a table or self. Mirrors are sacred to the Goddess. Placing a mirror on a table with a candle is a fitting alter to Her. If you enoy creating things, make a statue of Her with clay or creat a collage in her honor with pictures you cut or drawings you make. My mom plants a flower to honor her every mothers day.
Anyone can experience and honor the Goddess in their own way. She waits for all of us with open arms.
