I am sure there are a few of you in the Indiana area. My fiance and I are wanting to move there with my 9 yr old daughter to be closer to family. His family is there. There is not much support here in Vermont, esp. with my daughter's father living here.
How is the job market there?
We will be in the Lafayette/Indianapolis area.
Where would be a good place to start looking for a job?
How hard is it to find a state govt. job?
How is the market for buying a house?
These are just a few things I want to know and thought I'd ask here.
Thank you! :)

Good luck with the move. I moved there in 1995 and could not get a job for anything. ( I was not from around there) Finally a friend of his family gave me a chance and a job (seasonal). I also came from the northeast. I lived in the southern part of Indiana. My second job didn't start to work out untill I worked on my southern accent. Then I was able to sell homes. and did very well. After a few years I opened my own business which lasted 4 years. It was a long 9 years in Indiana , bad marriage :geez: and short divorce :fpompoms
Things may be different in a bigger city where everybody doesn't know everybody. Indiana is a nice location, the bigger the city the more$$$$$. In the 2 years I sold homes I saw land go from 2-3k per acre to 10+k. My business closed due to the lack of jobs, I had a daycare. We ended up homeschooling my kids due to school problems. I could write a book on that issue.
If you have more ?? just ask.

Thanks! I am hoping with my Information Systems degree and 6 years working in the financial world on the IS end of things, I will be able to get a job that has the same responsibilities as this one but potentially more money.
Here's for hoping!

Jobs are scarce here at the moment, I've been looking for 6 months...still unemployed, and now I'm looking into chiccago and having a lot of luck. A state government job (ha, I used to have one of those) isn't hard to qualify for, the problem is you have to just put in for them repeatedly and bug them about it, and interveiw alot...honestly it's all about getting your foot in the door, even if you don't like the job you get it's only 6 months until you can transfer, and once you're in the state it's really easy to find other jobs inside.

Try being in LALA land California. Nothing but $5.00/hr menial jobs fit only for teens looking for summer between school jobs. Anyhing of a future or substance job is already taken. The public wants only slaves for minimum wages. Non english speaking. And easily swayed voters for the "shining god of light" english speaking white boy rulers of the land. :-)

Hi!
I can't help with the job search, but I can mention things for finding other Pagans, if you're interested. First I’d try witchvox, as was already mentioned. Witchvox has a listing of groups in nearly any area.
I’d also try your local UU (Unitarian Universalist) church. Many UU members are Pagan (such as myself). There is even a Pagan group in the UU church (CUUPS, or the Covenant of UU Pagans). Their website is www.cuups.org, and if there isn’t a chapter at the local UU church, you might want to start one!
Even if there isn’t a CUUPS chapter, you’ll probably be able to find other Pagans at the UU church. You can find the closest UU churches to you by using this website:
http://www.uua.org/CONG/index.php
If you don’t run into any Pagans at UU there right away you might want to put up a sign on the bulletin board asking if Pagans go there – that usually works. Oh, and right in the middle of Indiana is a Stone Age circle monument -- like stonehenge, but smaller and it is an earthwork (no stones, just a circular ridge). It marks the solstices, and ancient indians probably had winter and summer rituals there thousands of years ago. It's in mounds state park today.
Good luck withthe move!

my biggest question is, how is the father going to handle not being able to see his daughter? if he's anything like me, its going to kill him.
