Twenty-six cats that were found in a home where dozens of other cats were found dead have all been adopted, Fulton County Animals Services officials said Tuesday.
Investigators say they found 134 dead cats in various states of decomposition at the home belonging to Lauri Lockwood last week. The home is located on Alstonefield Drive near Alpharetta.
The cats that were found still alive were taken to the Cat Clinic of Roswell for treatment. Some required extensive medication and hospitalization.
Clinic officials said the response from community members has been overwhelming and all of the cats are in the process of being adopted. It will be at least 30 days before the cats are released because of the ongoing investigation.
Investigators have not yet been able to speak with Lockwood. She is still out of town, police said.
If the district attorney concludes the deaths were the result of abuse of a high and aggravated nature, she could be charged with aggravated cruelty to animals -- a felony charge that could result in up to five years in jail.
The district attorney’s office said it would be at least a week before a decision is reached on whether to file charges.
(they'd BETTER file charges!!!)
