I was wondering if a fever is normal when cutting teeth? If it is is there a temperature at which I should be concerned? I know this may seem like a silly question but I have been looking for answers to this online and have gotten conflicting information.

It seems like kids often get a fever while they're teething. Having the teeth cut through the gums may make it easier for them to get small infections, but they're also at the age where they put everything into their mouth so it may just be a coincidence of age that they pick up more germs while they're teething.
I think you should call the doctor if a baby's fever goes over 103, but I've always been more concerned with how the child is acting than how high the fever is. If the baby is eating and nursing/drinking well and playing without being too fussy, and isn't napping more than usual, then just keep an eye on them. If the fever starts to rise or the baby is fussy then give a dose of liquid tylenol and see if that helps.
My granddaughter seems to have the same sinus infection as her mommy, they both got started on antibiotics on Monday. The toddler doesn't have much of a fever and plays pretty well as long she has tylenol on board, but she isn't eating very much and is napping more than usual. If she isn't better by tomorrow we're going back to the doctor's office.

Both my girls would get low grade fevers when teething. They would also at times be very fussy and miserable then too. Unless your baby has a high fever, is prone to ear infections or really seems to be ill. I wouldn't be to concerned.

I noticed that when my kids were cutting teeth they usually had a fever to go with it. My daughter would get ear infections every time, they say that it has nothing to do with the teething but who knows? My son never had anything other than a slightly elevated temp. There's more conflicting information out there about babies and everything that comes with them, it's nerve wrecking
I agree, and usually only take them to the doctor if there are other symptoms along with the fever, unless the fever goes up over 103 or doesn't come down with tylenol or motrin

Perfectly normal. 102-103 is when you should call the doctor.

Thank you all for the information, the fever is barely over 100 so I am releived to hear all your comments. He's cranky but otherwise his normal old self. Once again thanks!
