I am interested to know the ways of others concerning circle closing. My first teacher would never perform anything widdershins, including this and when I first started I followed her ways, although I found myself having to remember to do it this way.
My natural instinct is to close widdershins and I do this now.
What do others here do?

Hhhmmm ... The whole "not going Widdershins" in anything is another one of those things that confuzzles me completely! :( As far as closing the circle, we, as a Tradition, don't do that. Why? Well, you wouldn't dismiss your family, right?

Thanks for your thoughts on that, however,it was not about dismissal that I was asking..I would not be so arrogant as to tell, who or what I had called, that they were "dismissed"
It was purely a matter of,unwinding, breaking or taking up the circle that I was enquiring about.

I personally do everything widdershins...calling up the circle and closing it. I do this to represent following the path of the sun, alchemical gold, and the attainment of perfection. I do this more to disperse the energy a little quicker than natural osmosis would lead to, than to "dismiss" in anyway. I do thank the elementals for being there and let them know when the ritual has ended so they can stay or go as they please. The closing is for the circle itself, the personal energy that I have called up and put into place, not for the elementals or deities that grace me with their presence.

Right. We/I don't do that, either.

First off: one thing that should never happen is for You to Follow someones ways.
And now, with that said. I do close my circles. But I do it standing still. ;) Whats all this moving around going on for?
:D

I won't be asking any more questions here, your answers made me feel foolish for even asking.
I thank you,Shatav, for your answer,it was a joy to read and most helpful.
With respect for your ways

Hi Penny and Hail to a fellow Brit.
Your question was by no means foolsih. How can we learn anything if we don't ask? However, don't go under the mistaken impression that anyone has the "right" way, we only have the way the works/feels right for us.
Personally, I always open clockwise, starting first at Magickal East. Apparantly Magickal East is in whatever direction you are facing at the time, but my Magickal East is the true compass East from where I am. My circle then goes East, South, West and North. There are reasons for this, but I won't elaborate here as it will detract from your question.
I always close my circle by thanking the Guardians/Elementals for attending and then reversing the opening sequence ie, closing North, West, South and finishing with the East. I do this because it makes the ritual/magickal workings feel complete, and helps to bring me back to the real world, and when I face each direction, it makes me concentrate on that area more fully.
Don't get too bogged down in it all, most real magick takes place on the inner planes anyway!
Hope this helps, BB Silverwitch
