Is there anything I can do to make my puppy stop crying? This may sound like a stupid question.... kinda like, how do I make my baby stop crying, but I could use some help.
My puppy is 7 weeks, and he was separated, (mostly) from his mother and siblings last night. His mom and siblings live next door, and he knows they're there, so he'll last for about 10 minutes, before he goes and stands by the door and starts crying. And when he hears his siblings crying, then he starts crying.
Normally, I think it would be easier if there was no contact between him and his own family, but I live in a duplex and he shares a back yard with them....so he sees them every day.
Also, it'd be nice if he let me sleep through the night, but that's too much to hope for at this point, isn't it?
Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions? Last night was his first night in his entire life that he slept inside (mom's an outside dog)...I'm hoping he'll get used to it....

How well do you get along with pets? Do you mind spoiling them?
He is lonely and will do that for some time, but you could allow him to sleep with you and see how that works.
Give lots of attention during day and wear him out so he will sleep a little more at night. This usually isnt too successful because of the 7 to 1 ratio of days for dogs.
And the best, absolute best solution, (sorry to say) is another dog. A friend like himself. Maybe you could borrow a litter mate for a few days or so.
Hope this helps. Of course you know he will quit eventually but sleep will be lite.

A ticking clock to sleep with may help too.

Well....unfortunately there's no room on the bed, because we have another dog. It's the whole reason we're trying to crate train him....so he won't be trying to sleep on the bed too....he'll end up WAY too big for that.
I took an old teddy bear and rubbed it all over his mom, so it smells like her.... that worked for about 30 seconds. :)
It's not just at night when he's crying though. It's all the time.... every 15 minutes or so, he just stops playing and starts crying.
I understand that he's lonely, I just wonder if the knowledge that his puppy family is only a wall away is making it that much more difficult.
Sigh....there's probaby nothing I can do but be patient. I just feel sorry for him that's all.

A ticking clock is a very good one, so is letting him sleep with you, he misses the warmth and sounds of his mother and brothers & sisters.
then, after a week or so, you might be able to sleep through the night

Poor little lonely sweetie :(
It will take some time and be exhausting for you, but he will get over this. Just give him lots and lots of love and attention.
You could try putting a hot water bottle in with him at night. (Just fill a 2 liter pop bottle with hot hot water and wrap it in a towel) and maybe give him a snuggly stuffed animal.
Good luck and give him a scratch behind the ears for me. :)

You posted this a while ago now now, so I'll ask: Is the poor little cutie doing any better yet?
