I have noticed a extreme large grouping of so called "Gardner's stuff" for sale on ebay.
To me this is just a extreme crime from a spiritual stand point. Ya, is it just "stuff" but shouldn't be given to family? Coven family? I wish I could buy every bit of it to give it away to initiates... they deserve it... :noway:

If it's people's property, shouldn't it be them to decide what to do with it?

Sounds like nothing new. It is my understanding that this has been an issue from early on. Those who much of Gardner's stuff was left to did something similer (didn't they sell it to Ripley's?) and many of his initiates were not happy. But that is who he left it to.
Problem with being a religious leader and a media whore... he touched a lot of people in a meaningful way where they would like to preserve that aspect of him. But he also did a lot of things on behalf of the limelight. And so he is marketable. And his stuff up for sale to the highest bidder, and not just to the people who would most appreciate it. It was, in many ways by his choice, even if not the way he would have wanted it. Those who don't want this stay deeper in the shadows and will things to very trusted individuals.

Personally, I wouldn't buy anything just because it was Gerald Gardner's stuff. Sorry, but true. I prefer finding my own ritual items anyhow so...My thinking on these kinds of things it that family or friends should have your ritual stuff if they also practice or it should be destroyed. Selling it on Ebay?
Um...
Then again you're talking to a woman who owns something like 60 odd old Madonnas....I guess someone had to give them up or I wouldn't have them, right?....At least with me they're being gently kept and are loved. I hope his things go to folks who will value them and keep them for their historical aspect.

Well the cheapest item I can find is $31.50 with shipping. Thats a lot of money for a bead, but I am thinking about the history involved. I'm tempted, but will probably not do it. Trying to justify that to my wife could result in me getting hurt and I don't like that. Seriously though, is $31.50 to much to pay for that kind of historical piece? Your thoughts?

It looks like a lot of old tat that would be worthless were it not connected to Gardner. The seller (who does a lousy job on his descriptions, btw) is marketing Gardner's name rather than the items themselves. I wouldn't buy, but then I'm not hugely impressed with lineages anyway. Besides, I can't afford it. :)

I agree. I wouldn't really care if it was one person's famous stuff or not. But then again, not everyone in one family stays in the same religion you know? And if this had nothing to do with family or any of that sort, it could be a number of things ranging from someone who wants publicity such as the grill-cheese thing (although...would a famous pagan get that sort of publicity in today's media?) or it could be fradulent stuff.

I like the antique hair pin, and there *was* a bloodstone pendant/necklace that I liked (must have sold)...but I like them for the style, not because they belonged to Gardner. And I certainly don't like them enough to spend $400 for one item. :twitch: A replica would be just as good to me.

I don't know, I mean his things were passed on as he intended (as far as we know) therefore they are the rightful property of whoever. I know that if my magickal supplies, etc. were sold on ebay I would be upset (considering I would be dead and all) but I don't think those to whom I would pass my things would do that. And now, because I am quite clearly rambling on, I better go to bed.
