View Full Version : Tarot reading for yourself

When I read the Tarot (and Runes) for others I can get it mostly right most of the time. Yet when I ask for guidance for myself or try to take a little peek into the future for myself or my partner I get back answers that are mostly irrelevant or gibberish that have no bearing on the question. This happens no matter which deck or Rune set I use. Has anybody else had this experience. I am aware that if you read for yourself there is a danger of self fulfilling prophesy etc but I have tried every trick that I can think of with no success. I am a Solitary with no other readers close by who can help.

I have just the same problem. I think if you are reading for yourself or your SO the cards tell you jibberish because they think you should know the answers. I don't really know the answer but hey you can always come ask for a reading here.

I am aware that if you read for yourself there is a danger of self fulfilling prophesy etc. I'm not quite sure what you mean by this... I have never found there to be a problem with a self-fulfilling prophecy. Like, if I see in the cards that I should be careful driving, I then have a car accident....I've never had anything like that happen.
lI find that the problem most people have with reading for themselves (myself included) is that they can't be objective about the information they receive.
Many people tend to twist the information into what they want to hear, rather than what the cards may actually be trying to tell them. I find this to be true in situations where I'm reading for others and I know alot about the situation they are in as well. I prefer reading "blind", where I have as little information as possible. It's nice to know a name, but other than that, I feel that too much information will taint my objectivity and intuition.
One thing you can try is to pretend you are reading for someone other than yourself. If the reading you are doing was for another person, how would you interpret the runes or cards you've pulled/thrown?
If you are still having trouble, post your reading here and I'm sure others will be happy to help you out with their interpretations. I find this to be a useful tool... not only for a specific reading, but for learning tarot or runes in general. Other people sometimes see things in ways that we haven't thought of and can really benefit from.
Good luck! :)

I too have a hard time doing self readings. I think I am just too ego driven to read the cards from a clear non biased view LOL Maybe it's a Leo thing hehehe I did a reading for myself last night and had some troubles so I posted it here to get some feedback. Luckily there are many talented readers here to bounce ideas off of.

I think the key to reading yourself is realizing that everything you read is possibilities. They have a chance of happening but they won't necessarily happen exactly like you see it. When reading yourself, be critical and objective and never try to over interpret the cards. Use the meaning they are normally assigned and thats it.
After some practice you will get the hang of reading yourself.

I used to be able to read for myself (although I found it difficult to be objective some of the time!) although now that I am working with it much more seriously I am finding it pretty much impossible. I have come to the point where I have stopped trying now apart from pulling a card a day. I have also found it is much easier to read for people I don't know rather then closer friends. Again I think it is just because then there is no risk of projecting on to the cards or seeing what you think your friend should do...
