The Military Pagan Network Starts Adopt A Pagan Soldier Programme
The American Military Pagan Network has launched an innovative scheme to support Pagan soldiers of all nationalities during the coming build-up to military action following the terrorist attacks on US soil. Whilst primarily aimed at American service personnel the Military Pagan Network is also co-ordinating sponsorship programmes for soldiers from the UK, Canada and Australia.
According to the Military Pagan Network the response so far has been "amazing." They have received so many calls from interested parties that, constrained by limited manpower and funding, they have had to limit the number of adoption registrations to one thousand.
The registration form allows adoptees to select from a list of Pagan faiths and traditions in order to find a sympathetic match. The list is diverse ranging from the Nordic religio Asatru to the Unitarian Universalist with everything from the "Ceremonial," "Discordian," Druidic, "Dianic," Wiccan, Pagan, "Reclaiming," "Reconstrutionalist," and Shamanic inbetween.
The Military Pagan Network was set up to "serve the networking needs of the military Pagan community, educate and support those that are faced with harassment or discrimination and provide resources when moving to new areas of the world." It relies solely on donations and hopes that the Adopt a Pagan Soldier initiative will allow non-serving Pagans to show their support with care-packages, prayers and other forms of good will. Anyone interested in this scheme can contact admin@wica.org.uk.
