Would someone please define 'correspondences' for me? i think i know what it means, but am not sure.

i know what it means in terms of writing letters, etc. I meant how is it used in magical terms, i see herbs and stones referred to as 'correspondences' and i was trying to figure out why.

Correspondences are areas that relate.


Earth, Prosperity, green.

Fire, Passion, Red

Water, Feelings, Blue

Air, Thought, Yellow.


They are all of the same essence and enhance like aspects.

Like if I wanted to do a quicky little spell to increase prosperity, I'd light a green candle and place it on a the north end of a counter/table and say my incantation. :D ....but that's just me! ;)

Correspondences can also be thought of as mind keys for a specific intent. For instance, if you were doing a prosperity spell and a green candle, pine oil, and coins made you think of prosperity, then those things would be correspondences or mind keys for that spell. You can choose correspondences you find in a book if they make sense, or decide your own. Whatever reminds you best of what you're doing is the best correspondence for you.

Most everything correspondes with something.


You have Directions, Colors, herbs, stones, tarot suits, etc. If you wanted a really intensify and enhance a quality in your life.....you combine the correspondences to make it more ...powerful.

I would also place the candle on a dollar bill.

In magickal terms, correspondences means magical attributes or qualities of objects used in spellwork like stones, colors of candles, herbs, oils, elements, planetary days, moon phases, etc.
