What would hair have to do with anything?

because hair legnth is natural, therefore if the legnth of hair is short then it would have to have been cut, therefore losing the nature of the goddess

you think?

so does a goddesses hair stop groing then? or does it continue? if thats the case then you are going to have problems telling where the hair ends and where the goddess begins.

Thinks Thor's wife Sif.

Actually, hair has a lot to do with religion and spirituality in many cultures, including the ones where the gods and goddesses originated from. It was important in Indo-Euro Pagan beliefs. It is important in Hinduism and the Middle East. Even for devout Christians and Jews (hence why some groups cover their hair) Hair means different things to different regions. It has ties with sexuality in many places. Two thousand years ago in Greece, it was honorable to have long hair. Long haired women were worthy of respect because the prostitutes had short or shaven hair. Creation goddesses have long hair because it is natural.

No, I don't. There may well be one, but not all of the goddesses have images that are locatable today, and not all of them have physical descritptions. But as far as I know none of the major goddesses had short hair. Many of them wore thier hair in up-do's.

I'm not intentionally sounding sarcastic, but you might try asking who this person you're seeing is. In my experiences most deities are fine revealing themselves to you if you ask. I know that most people tend to make things more difficult than they really are.

She didn't see a vision of anything, she just wanted to know if all goddesses have long hair.

treefae,

I am sorry you aren't getting the answers you were looking for. Maybe this will help. Back in the day, it was pretty shameful for women to have short hair. It meant that you were a prostitute or part of the lowest class. This is why Paul in the Bible, instructs Christians to wear their hair long and keep it covered. One would not depict their goddesses of having any attributes of a servant or whore, so in man made images- goddesses are going to have long hair. Long hair has been very sacred in many cultures.

Obviously, today, this no longer applies. (and quite honestly the women who fit these descriptions are usually portrayed with long hair now). A goddess can look however you want her to. Pictures and paintings are man made objects with the artist's conception.

On a lighter note, a goddess has nothing to do, but look beautiful. If she was chasing five kids around, I am pretty sure she would get a hair cut. I have seen fae with short hair though.

Hmm, just to point out, in the old text it says that Isis cut off her hair after finding out that Osiris was dead. But other text says just a lock, so yeah.

I never thought of goddesses hair before. :|

What about some Kemetic goddesses who are often pictured with the heads of animals? Sure it's fur, but it's short. :D _catroll_
