Again in this card we see the curtain behind the figure, I fell this indicates that the persons own feelings are veiled and only the facts are addressed. He/She holds the sword of truth (or knowledge) in his/her right hand and balanced scales in the left hand. Could this indicate that our conscious mind listens for the truth (right hand-consciousness), while it is our subconscious mind that nows it (left hand subconsciousness-balanced)? Or maybe he's weighing the 'facts' with what he/she know to be true? We also see the gray pillars in the background....since they aren't black and white....are they the non-commital balanced gray? Indicating objectivity? The figure is wearing red and green robes, these colors are complimentary....is there significance there? The crown IMHO means authority.

I belive that in her power hand (right) that she holds the sword to signify her power. And in her left hand she holds the scales of balance. I think that the scales are used for balancing yourself. Making sure that your heart is not heavy with sadness or guilt. Trying to keep your whole self in balance. In my card she is not blindfolded, she knows what she is doing. That justice is not blind.

....on the contrary, I believe the old adage is....
"Justice IS blind".
Maybe this person is Judge (person), Jury (scales) and Executioner (sword). {shrugging shoulders}

Whew Ive stopped rushing around now so heres my take...
This card represents for me Divine Justice and balance. As shes not blindfolded like the normal Justice figure she is clear seeing and unbias - telling us we have to be the same and have harmony and balance in our lifes.
She tells us that - we are our own judge, we have to weigh up the situation, our lifes, our actions and act accordinly and only we know the right path.
(This card was coming up in my own readings alot a month ago after arguments and relationship troubles with my past boyfriend - he was unbalancing my life and I had to split up with him to restore the balance and harmony back in my life)
Judge only yourself : never others :p

The blindfold, to some, lies testimony to the fact that justice does not discriminate.. it applies to the weak and powerful alike. The fact that her sword is double-edged represents a choice to me. Everything we do, we had to make a choice first. Yes i do believe in destiny or fate...but I believe we are given choices in that destiny and the decisions we make affect our next choices presented to us.
This card, to me, is a statement that we have made our own choices and now we have to live with them for better or worse.
But, alas, here is Joan Bunning's idea:
ACTIONS
respecting justice
insisting on fairness
acting on ethical principles
being involved in legal concerns
committing to honesty
seeking equality
being impartial
trying to do what is right
assuming responsibility
settling old accounts and debts
being accountable
acknowledging the truth
admitting involvement
handling the situation
doing what has to be done
preparing for a decision
weighing all sides of an issue
setting a course for the future
balancing all factors
determining right action
choosing with full awareness
understanding cause and effect
accepting the results you created
seeing how you chose your situation
recognizing the action of karma
knowing that what is makes sense
making connections between events
DESCRIPTION
On Card 11 we see the familiar figure of Justice. She has the scales of equality and impartial judgment in one hand, and the sword of decision in the other. In the tarot, Justice represents the understanding that life is ultimately fair and just. Even though the vagaries of day-to-day life tend to make us doubt this fact, Justice reminds us that there is divine balance. Notice the similarity between the Emperor and Justice. Both cards stand for universal order; the Emperor in its underlying structure, Justice, in the action of karma - cause and effect.
There is a serious feel to Card 11 - the tone of the courtroom. This card refers to legal matters of all kinds, but is not restricted to them. The courts are where judgments are made and decisions rendered. Our legal system is the official arena in which we explore the principles of Justice - fairness, impartiality and the quest for truth.
In readings, Justice often appears when you are concerned with doing what is right or making sure you receive your due. This card can also appear when you are feeling the impact of a past mistake or good deed. The cause you set in motion at one time is now returning to you as an effect.
Sometimes Justice is a signal to do what needs to be done. A time comes when responsibilities must be accepted, and accounts settled. The past will continue to haunt you if you do not recognize your mistakes and make amends for them. You will need to weigh matters carefully and perhaps make important decisions about your future course

Hi all!
It seems interesting to me that this card is #10 in the Witches' Tarot and The Wheel is 11.I wonder why they flipped them? Also in the Witches' Tarot deck,Justices scales are weighing what seem to be a feather and a heart.

Each deck author has a different interpretation about the fools journey and how it evolves. For this author, there is justice and the verdict I presume is the fools destiny (wheel). I have noticed the discrepency also.
As for the heart and the feather, maybe they are balancing knowledge/emotions or purity of heart?

Again we see the 3 pillars (the person being the third and a combination of both), and again the veil which is always obscuring the truth if we truly do not seek it.
The Judge is adorned with the trappings of his office, he is in the courtroom... serious authoritive figure here. Decision and truth is what I see. Of course in the Robin Wood the Judge appears to be a red robed woman with a laurel crown? She too holds a shining silver sword and the golden scales. Her cape is green and purple instead of golden but I'm unsure of the significance there.
I agree with true justice being blind to who is being judged, their station, financial situation, ect. This reinforces my understanding of the fairness of life, it's an equal opportunity for all...just depends on our decisions and the paths we choose to walk. Karma teachings tell us we are responsible for our path and our lives, it is truly cause and effect. Make a good decision and you will usually benefit, make a misinformed or uninformed one and you may not like the path you end up on.
My 2 cents is used up for now...LOL!

Well, purple is associated with insight and wisdom...the ability to see beyond the normal span of visual perception. Green is the color of healing and it's connected to the heart, so I think it has to do with love and harmony, balance of emotions.
