I need some advice about stray cats

There are two stray cats that stay around our patio. My daughter wants to adopt them but before we bring them into our home we are looking for some advice on how to. We have a 3 year old and a 4 month old babies. We know that the first thing we should do is get them to a vet. But after if all is clear what should be some step we should follow? This is the first time we will have pets of our own. Any advice would be helpful. We are already feeding them. My daugther insisted. Now she won't be happy till they are completely part of the family.

So if you have a stray that you have made a family member please tell me how.

What's their behaviour like? are they friendly and outgoing and like affection and try to get into your house? Are they standoffisn and afraid of people? After the standard vetting, what you'll need to do will be drastically different depending on how tame or feral they are.
