What if you have both Jupiter and Saturn in the same house? Do they cancel each other out? I have Jupiter and Saturn in my 11th house. What would that mean?

depends on just how close they are to each other ...... within say 10 degrees roughly speaking they are more closely united..... and also depends if they are in the same sign ......
and whether the aspect is applying .....
but generally speaking .....they dont cancel each other out... but they most assuredly influence each other ........ the experience of Saturn with any planet grealy resricts at times that planets influence.........
for instance Saturn with Venus ......restrictions on the planet of love....... can manifest as "cold hearted" or attracted to "older men"
Saturn with Jupiter..... can limit ones expansion into the world ...... the person could be a "Specialist" of some sort able to intensley focus on one area......
but Jupiter also influences Saturn , brings warmth and expansion to what might be learning experiences......

mhrtwll; It has been observed that any Jupiter Saturn contact in a birth chart indicates a sacrifice, and especially if any other planets are aspected to it. That the nature of the sacrifice is denoted by what the theme is of any other aspecting planet(s) house and signs of occupation. By a "sacrifice" is meant that the person's welfare or best interest is sacrificed for another's well being, whether it be their forutne, family or sibling rejection, general social rejection or what ever. That such usually occurs during childhood, and often the experience leaves the person without a solid foot-hold on life. They are prone to wander about and be without good and helpful family associations. Jupiter/Saturn contacts are not a beneficial Astrological influence. Those who have these two in aspect should also learn to calculate their secondary progressed chart and determine when the progressed Sun and/or Moon first comes into contact with this duo, to determine at what point in life that one had to endure it's imposed hardships. Considering their closeness, about 10 degrees is the maximum of separation and still be a viable contact. However, the partile conjunction of these two is the strongest.

I stockpile information on interesting aspects and had this by L. Tallarico on the subject:

Every 20 years brings a societal turning point and sacred passage for the greater culture, symbolized by the conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn.
So, once every 20 years they meet up for a new and revised reign of societal guidelines for living. Each new cycle brings a changing of the guardians of our outer world. Familiar images, from our popular culture, which bring instant recognition, like an archetypal imprint, change faces when Jupiter and Saturn begin anew their 20-year dance.
The 20th century has brought all, but one, of these conjunctions in Earth signs, and perhaps that explains, in part, the material and practical emphasis of the last century. Jupiter and Saturn begin a new 20-year cycle on May 28th, 2000 at 22+ degrees of Taurus, an Earth sign once again, before we change to more idealistic air signs in 2020.
Each of these 20-year cycle, and it effect can be seen in general terms by looking at the natal houses the formation falls within, and the aspects it makes to your natal planets.

It might be quite interesting to compare your natal chart with the chart of your annual solar return.

For instance, if this conjunction places in your natal 7th house, you will have changing scenery in the relationship department. Old friends or lovers, and relationship patterns, which have fit your life for the last 20 years, may be ripe for change.
If Uranus in Aquarius then falls into your natal 4th house, then that is where there will be much liberation from confining home situations. You may get restless to move, and your inner world may be ready for breakthrough insights, which could be upsetting to your old foundation beliefs.
These inner changes will affect your sense of comfort and the security of your relationships, ripe for change. In general, it is time for each of us to look back on the last 20 years, and to gain resolution about that period. People, situations, and memories from those years, especially at the beginning of that last era, may “return” to be reviewed and reflected upon; but it is rapidly becoming time to “let go” the attachment, in your heart and mind, of that past, and to embrace the new journey embarked upon.

You'll be having your own changing of the guards, as you enter a new and exciting time period each year.

mhrtwll, I took the liberty to look up your birthdate, and the Jupiter - Saturn "configuration" although may be in the same house, has a 21 degree separation, which is too far apart to warrant much consideration.

Oh thanks Methanespirit! So it's not really important if I have to sacrifice when it comes to friends. Well, personally in my life i have few close friends, mostly because I am shy I think... hehe.

mhrtwll, I looked up Chiron for you. It is located (Tropically) at 12*16' Taurus, and Sidereally at 17*49" Aries.

Also, I did not answer a question of yours at the beginning of your adjacent thread (actually, I got it into the wrong thread); how did they assign Pluto to Scorpio? The interpretations of Pluto have been shrowded in mystery, mostly becuase most astrologers do not know how to delineate a planet' s influence either by its angularity in a nativity, nor by its transit over one's birth mundane house cusps. Therefore, all that is left for them to allocate Pluto's home sign is by traditional "mystic" delineations. If you were to look at the signs of the zodiac in sequence, it will be found that their rulers also follow a sequence by their relative positions outward from the Sun: Leo=Sun, Cancer=Moon, Virgo=Mercury, Libra=Venus, Scorpio= Mars, Sagittarius= Jupiter. Capricorn=Saturn, Aquarius= Uranus, Pisces=Neptune, and Aries =Pluto. That the traditional method of rulerships allocates Mars to Aries and Pluto to Scorpio. However, you can see that the sequence is broken when viewing the rulerships from that manner. Besides, one only has to chase Pluto around the zodiac to see that his influence is not Martial but Political and Social, especially by transit. Aries is perhaps, the most political sign of the zodiac and social, but with an aloofness that is unique to them. Should anyone purchase a book listing the birthdays of famous people, and there are several to choose from, written for astrologers, it will be readily seen that Aries is leadership oriented with the sun in that sign, but also as is common with Pluto by transit, that they have a habit of accusing others, through a supposed default (something they did not do) inwhich they take immediate action or, most often, criticism, to fill in the loss, or to point out the supposed irresponsibiltiy. Pluto by transit causes isolation, loss of contact with friends and family, sometimes a loss of life, from any of various reasons, and an unfortunate socially critical period for personal times, while Pluto transits especially, their natal Ascendant, as they are constantly rejected and often referred to as being out of sync with society.

I hope this makes sense of an otherwise potentially confusing question. -Meth

Oh wow, that is really interesting...
I did'nt realize that the signs and their associated planets were in order from the Sun and out. I previosly thought the planets were assigned sorta randomly to the signs, but i see the pattern. I also had no idea Aries was the most political sign of the zodiac..hmm... Thanks Meth, you're always a great help! =)

Mhrwtwll, now I understand why you made mention of Aries being a political sign because in the tropical Zodiac you are Aries. However, in the Sidereal Zodiac your are double Pisces with Libra Ascending.

I consider myself political, but I thought it was due to my Uranus in my first house. I'm very liberal, very left wing.
