No matter what you think of her, Sylvia Browne has an excellent CD on the subject. It comes with a little book, that's not so great--not much in it--but the CD has a meditation that works really well for this purpose. I have used it with my meditation group and many of them do that meditation quite often now to keep the lines of communication with their guide open.

I also used a guided meditation from an Elisabeth Brooke book. The results of it were sort of confusing for me, but it seems to be a sound meditation.

Good luck :)

I have that book and cd set. I never read it or listened to it yet but this thread makes me want to. But to answer your questions no I dont know my spirit guides name. And the only tip I can offer since I havent accomplished this yet is to relax and be patient.

Though I did kind of have communication before the best help I got in comfirming who my spirit guides were and increasing my ability to communicate with them was when I went to a spiritualist church.
Really the fact that I had individual help as opposed to a book written for general people and othe people picking up on my spirit guides helped more than anything else.
So I'd say try a spiritualist group or find some sort of teaching group at least until your more confident as to what is real and what isn't

thank you very much! i am definitely gonna look into the Sylvia Browne CD and will do some research on the group meditation as well.
i just dont understand ... i communcate with the angels very often.. i read angel cards! .. and i meditate every morning, and sometimes, when i go to my sacred place i see who i think is my spirit guide, or angel. i know, when i see this being is that i'm gonna receive a message towards the ending of the journey. .. so we do talk (but you know..telepathically) but i just dont know for sure if its a female or a male .. gosh that sounds so awful :( ... its b'cus its so bright around It and all over It .. i think its a female .. she's so beautiful! so peaceful .. nehow .. i know i must be patient .. and that my moment will come .. i guess i'm eager to be there already :)
thanks again for all of your advise.

I don't think you need worry to much about knowing if spirit is male or female, (some people even thnk spirit is neither) just take it as it comes to you.

I ran a online group to help some girls who contacted me last year with spirit guides (and such things) and one of them recieved really crystal clear long messages from her guide and never knew its name, gender, she just knew they wore orange

Yes. My spirit guide's name is Ana debrough.
She is probably in her late 30's - early 40's.
Hard to explain how I know.. I just know. :floating:

I have two spirit guides, one a male, the other female. The male one I still do not know his name. He almost always appears in the form of an old Native American shaman. The other is female, and she has appeared before me too, but her form is not that of a human. She has told me her name, on a night where I went out full of grief and heartache. It took many years before either appeared in form. I don't mean like my husband is in front of me, any time, I mean in form while I am in their space, meditating, or on a journey. I never really focused on learing their names, though, to be quite honest. A name in this scared space of spirits is a scared thing in itself, and when they feel the time is right, as my female one did, they will share. (By the way, I do not tell anyone her name). Perhaps the guide you have is ambiguous, male and female, both sides there in one. Perhaps they are trying to teach patience. As I believe that they teach lessons, too. I know they try every single day in one form or another to teach me that very thing, and man alive, I just never learn. LOL.Good luck to you!

Ah the old Spirit Guide question.... I appologize in advance for the length ^_^

My first guide has been with me since I was a child. She is an angel in the traditional sense of the word with wings and long flowing black hair and pale skin. She’s very tall and has warm deep brown eyes. She helps me be independent and strong. She gives me courage and drives me to do what is right. I never named her when I was little, and now that I’m older, I asked her to pick a name and she has chosen Celestine, which to me is all to perfect. I was overwhelmed when she chose it. She also makes sure I walk my talk. Celestine hates to see anyone put anyone else down, and she urges me to intervene the moment that something bad begins to happen. I have also seen Celestine around people who need strength or help. Celestine hates when others lean on her though, and she is sure to give them a firm push when they no longer need her and are using her because it’s easier.

The second guide is one that I sensed long before I saw her. She is Noone, the Bengal tiger. It’s an interesting story about Noone’s name. I have never named any of my stuffed animals when I was little, and I don’t name anything now either. So when Noone and I first met I hugged her and asked what I should call her. Who was she, what should I call her. She laughed at me and said, “Silly I am No one.” Put no one together and you get Noone. Anyway though, Noone teaches me adaptability, discipline, and endurance. Noone is only interested in helping me or friends. She takes no interest in other’s problems. Noone can also me unnecessarily fierce, she doesn’t care about the big picture, she cares about taking care of her own regardless of what’s going on, who’s in the right, or who it might hurt. She always appears when I’m scared.

I gained my next guide in the summer between my sophomore and junior year. He is still nameless, and after hearing what my other two guides look like, I suppose he is rather unimpressive. He is just a man about 5’6” with short blond hair and perfectly clear blue eyes. He is my guide of unconditional love and compassion. Both Noone and Celestine commonly make fun of him for being ‘wishy washy’. He doesn’t care about higher lessons, what’s right, or strength. He cares about me and how I feel. No matter what I do, he will always love me. And while both Noone and Celestine poke a lot of fun at him, because they feel he can be useless and weak, he is crucial and in some ways he is stronger than them. He is my guide of surrender. No matter what I say, do or thing, he accepts it and gets behind me and supports me. His own ability to surrender humbles me. It reminds me that I do not have to shape the world, I can’t shape the world, and sometimes what I need to do is sit back and love the world for the shape it is. The moment I’m stressed or worried, he’s there rubbing my back or putting his hand over mine, or running his energy through me saying that it’s okay and that everything will work out. He calls for more patience, trust, relaxation.

My next guide is Silver Streak and he is an oversized grey wolf full of energy and excitement. He’s always dashing off here and there. Silver Streak always has a lesson for me to learn. I’m always following him and racing off after him. He has taught me the joys of movement, and he reminds me of meditation through constant flowing motion. Everything is always in motion and to be one must move with everything.

I have met a new guide this past summer. She doesn’t currently have a name, but she’s beautiful. She has long wavy brown hair and she wears loose flowing clothes. Her outfits are filled with symbolism, but not because she needs the symbols or because she relies on them for power, she wears them to proclaim who and what she is. For example she carries a staff with a sun and moon on the top. On her forehead she has a henna tattoo of a spiral surrounded by a swirling design for a crown. She wears both the goddess and a pentacle on her necklace. Her clothes are embroidered with the cycles of the moon, the seasons, and the tides. Her smile is wise and powerful, and often tells me what I need to do to gain more understanding.

wow! you are so lucky to have such vivid images of your spirit guides! I haven't found mine yet and am very eager to discover how! do you think you could share how you found yours? Do you wait for your guide to come to you...or is there some method of searching for your guide that I'm missing???

My spirit guide is Lucy.
She's in her early teens, long brown hair, which falls mostly straight, but at her shoulders it hangs in loose ringlets to past her chest. She has very pale skin with a hidden kiss at the right side of her rose lips...hidden kiss is like a smll dimple...her cheeks are a healthy bright colour. Her eyes are wild and fulled of laughter and sparkling in a hazel colour with gold flecks. She wears a simple white victorian dress. Still very much a childs dress with frilled lace at the bottom, and a slightly flared skirt, with pini sleeves.
She is slender and smaller than me reaching about my chest.

I met her on my first night in this house. I was in tears and homesick and she just came to me and held me close till I fell asleep.

I've had Celestine, my angel guide for as long as I can remember. As for Noone, my tiger guide, I had sensed her around in the beginning of my sophmore year of high school and every now and then I would catch flashes of her in the corner of my eyes. Eventually after the thrid time in meditation trying to confront her, I managed to make the first solid contact with her. As for my male guide, he came to me in a dream the first time we met, he was helping to teach me a lesson/prove a point, not all of my dreams are of actual import, but this was one of the few that was. He came to me a lot after our first meeting. Silver Steak, my wolf guide I met him in a reiki meditation, and I was a little surprised, but I warmed up to him rather quickly. Lastly is my female guide/ maybe a asscended master, who also came to me through reiki meditation, she's probably the one that does the most free lancing and is most human. All of my guides came to me in their own time in their own way though, so I don't know exactly what to twll you ^_^

I dont have one yet... I just have friends... in my head... they're the characters who talk to me when i write. Theyre all very unique... (makes me sound like a nut...) I guess they're a sort of spirit guide... but i dont have a dominating one as of now.

The Spirit guide I see most came to me first in my younger years growing up and being afraid of the gifts I was bestowed with.He is an older man and a gentle teacher type whom has never steered me wrong.I have other guides who have visited me at different times in my life.I believe this older man to be an ancestor of mine.He looks Cherokee and is dressed like a tribal Medicine Man. The other 2 guides seem to come for certain things, or decisions I need to make.

well, mine came to me when i was meditating.
i was in my safe place, my garden, i was walking around and it came to me and is there with me most of the times i go to my garden ever since.
its a wonderful feeling just to look at it. so much peace. so much harmony and above all love. its awesome! :heartthro

i also wanted to add that i finally got the answer i was looking for. for days during my morning prayer and meditation and at nite before falling asleep i've been asking my guides and angels to talk to me and help me figure this out.
well .. i rcvd an answer from my guardian angel. looking for some info on a project i was working on i came across a list of angel names which led to my angel's name! ..... i'm very happy.
once again the magickal love of the Divine Spirit has made its presence clear! :boquet:

I hope I find a solid spirit, ya kno? I have little ppls i talk to (who might send me to the nuthouse someday from ppl thinking im talking to myself), but nobody to really depend on. I have a whole bunch of animal spirits when i trance, but well, now that i think about it... i think i do have a guardian spirit. she's a tree. as silly as that seems, i think it's right. whenever i go to my safe place, i first walk into this big field with a big tree in the middle. It's huge and i greet it every time. She is really nice. When I'm sad, I can sleep in her branches and refresh myself, Sometimes she holds me with her twining limbs, and when she's sad and drooping, I do my best to cheer her up. She doesn't have a human form (yet, lol), but I do think that's her. Wow. I never realized that before. But there she's been... never complained once that I took her for granted. <3

I don't know if this would be considered my encountering of a familiar or a spirit guide.... or possibly just a paranormal experience.... but i had a cool experience last weekend...

I was home alone and downstairs reading a book at the kitchen table (don't ask why the kitchen table, lol) I was getting really interested in my book, when a sudden sense of intuition told me to look outside.

Earlier there had been tons of birds flocking about my mother's birdfeeders, loud as heck... but when I looked out the window there were no birds to be found--save one. He (or she?) was perched on the top of one of the bird feeders staring out at the scy. What raised my concern about the bird was that he did not move like most birds moved (ya know--all jumpy and constantly cocking their heads everywhich way to look about). Well this little guy was slowly rotating his head and sort of contemplating something, and looked rather ill. I asked him what was the matter, and I made a little noise to see if he would even react to anything... but he just sat there.

Just when I was about to go outside to see if I could help him in any way, he suddenly jumped and whirled around and began staring at me! We held this strange eye contact for what seemed like at least ten minutes! If I moved at all, he would still stare at me, not scared at all. Then, just as suddenly as he whirled around to stare at me, he jumped up and whirled around again, this time with his head still looking back at me, and all I could hear in my head was "C'mon! Follow me!" And with that he flew away into the woods and over the stone wall that was our property borderline (but i made sure to pay close attention to which direction he went.)

So, I set out blindly to follow my new little birdie friend! I had not yet had an opportunity to explore the woods in which he flew, because I was told that it was filled with prickers and a swamp, so it was quite the adventure! Once I walked a few paces into the unfamiliar place, I stopped to let my intuition guide me. Then, a sudden clamor of birds flew off from all the trees around me and flew north, over a little opening in the labrinthine prickers I had missed.

I followed this unfamiliar path, and found the swamp that was covered with ice and snow, and strange little landforms in random intervals throughout the swamps body. They resembled little mounds of dirt with hair growing out of them (perfect stepping stones for my path!) I cautiously made my way through the swamp, and at many points stopped and almost went back, but my intuition just kept insisting that I go on (wherever that was I was going!)

Then, I noticed little bird footprints in the snow, following a straight path along the little mound thingies. So I followed them and was looking down so much that I really had no idea where I was going... when suddenly I reached solid land. I looked up to find this massive tree towering over me, quite out of place in the very middle of a swamp. It was an amazing sight. I had no idea how it was still being held upright in the muddy soil, with huge lightning-bolt scars all over it and huge low hanging brances that reached my chest. I was very drawn to it, and felt the wisdom it held eminating through the roots I stood on.

I was so amazed with the beautiful sight of the tree I almost didn't even notice the company that was suddenly all about me. I looked up and saw three birds flying together among the branches of the tree... all of which were identical to the one who had first sparked my intution for this journey. I greeted them (or rather they greeted me since they apparantly lived in the tree!) and one of them flew closer to me on a branch not even two feet away from my face. I instantly recognized him as my friend I met earlier. Again he held my gaze for an oddly long time, and in my head the words "Yay! You made it!" rung as clear as a bell.

Then another sense of intuition (I seemed to be overflowing with intuition that day!) told me to touch the branch. Even though my hand was merely a few inches from the bird, he did not startle. I began to follow the bark along the branch until i came to the massive trunk, and was startled to find that one of the huge gashes in it (most likely from lightning) led much deeper into the tree than I had thought. The tree was hollow all through its trunk!!

The reason I am so excited to have found this tree is because for a long time now I have been searching for a suitable oracle tree (a hollow tree in which you place two stones to act as vocal cords for the tree. you can ask the tree questions and very often you will be suprised to hear a very clear answer!). I couldn't find a hollow tree for the longest time, and was about to give up... until my little birdie friend led me to that one!!! :D

So, do you think that this bird could be my spirit guide, or a totem, or more like a familiar?? I really don't know, and was wondering if anyone could help me clarify that??? ^^'

P.S.-- sorry for the long post (^^') I can't help it!!!

My husband and I are currently working on the same thing. We have a book that we're reading called How to Meet and work with spirit guides by Ted Andrews. I got it at amazon.com. Its very good. He writes lots of books that a pagan would find useful. Do a search on him.

This specific book covers:

the spirit realm
mediums
guardian angels
nature spirits
spirit totems
ghosts & hauntings
techniques
precautions

I was feeding our 4 month old thismorning at 6am and I heard what to me was an audible sceam or my clairaudience. My husband said according to this book it was my spirit guide attempting to get my attention. Their going to have to bite me in the ass for me to notice them the way these kids have me so busy nowadays. lol

The other day I could swear I heard a baby crying . . . turns out, was not my little girl, she was fast asleep.

Stupid clairaudience.
