I don't like it. I'd need to see a full length pic to be sure. The way it is now, it looks like the skirt part is too low. It's making her legs look stumpy. Maybe she got married in Vegas? I could never wear that, hot body or not. My family would march my ass right out the door.

I wouldn't wear that for my wedding, body like that or not. But every person is different and if it makes her happy then more power to her.

I think she does have the body and style for the dress and the dress is lovely and exotic. BUT it doesn't really fit in with what the groom is wearing or the church setting. Which makes it seem odd and out of place...... Personally the Mermaid Bride would look more natural on a beach with a groom wearing something more casual like a sequioned thong? hehehehe

Hey, now that;s actually a good idea, I didn't even think of doing something like that for a beach wedding. Though the thong might not be so good, lol

I do actually like that dress, and I agree that the setting just doesn't seem right. Now....if only I had that body.

I agree, I love the dress, but I think I would pick something a little... .more.. for my wedding. She does look really nice in it, though. She looks happy, I think that's the most important ;) Hope she has a nice, long, enjoyable marriage.

I can't decide whether that looks more like a belly dancer or a Vegas showgirl?

Who the heck is she?

Sexy Bride Mmm mmmm. I say if you've got it and you enjoy it, flaunt the hell out of it! Go girl! I love that. I'm all for 'alternate' wedding dresses. I've already picked mine, it's medieval with long sleeves which are tapered and lots of lace and a little lace up bodice and no shoulders in the dress. I'll see if I can find a pic of it.

Maverynthia

I was thinking Vegas street corner bride.

He looks really embaressed, and she...I don't know, but that dress looks like it's going to fall off of her.

Antoninus
February 24th, 2005, 09:44 PM
Ok I will admit that her outfit IS a touch out of place, but isnt a person's wedding supposed to be THIER day? I mean, if it makes her happy, who cares? Her husband must not have because Im pretty sure he would have raised objections to it before the wedding, if he didnt then Im POSITIVE that his or her family would have. They look like a happy new couple and actually she looks quite good in her second photo.

My only beef is with the photographer. Whoever he was, he didnt do much about lighting, ESPECIALLY on the first photo. They look like they were taken under flourescent lights.

What's everyones problem? I believe someone described it as hooker under the sea... WHAT!!! Well remind me to come up with vulgaur comments about your wedding. I LOVE that dress, ok in the second one it does seem a tad low, but so do most low cut jeans to me! I LOVE that dress, and I think that she deserves credit where it's due. Not many people break out of the wedding merangue dresses, and I think people who have the guts to wear what they like rather than what other people expect are the better and strongest people!
Just remind me that when I get married I am NEVER to show you morons my pictures! Hooker under the sea...

heh, yeah, I do tend to be direct and offend a lot of people, but I can't stand people who put others down for what they are. I mean a wedding is a very personal thing. The wedding dress should reflect its owner. If the bride wants to feel like a mermaid or exotic princess on her wedding day, why the hell not?

O.K. Well I am just going to shut up now. I'm sure my rants on dresses are annoying most people. Though I must say I do like the design, but I would be having either an autumn or winter wedding so I wouldn't wear that dress for my wedding, but I may wear a similar design.

*nod* If people can do Renaissance-style weddings with their boobs pushed up to their earlobes, or Celtic-themed where the groom and his men give everyone an eyeful when a stiff breeze blows through, or Elvis-themed weddings where there's more hair gel on the men than on the women, or Britney-themed weddings that last all of a few hours...I see nothing wrong than this girl making her dream a reality. For all we know, she's a professional belly-dancer (or a Weeki-Wachee mermaid) and that's how she and her groom met. Whatever her reason, I'm happy that she made it personal, and I think it took guts to go against the "norm." I wouldn't wear it if I had that body either, but I prefer a more simple, classic style, myself. *shrug*

February 25th, 2005, 01:36 AM
I think the dress looks a little out of place. As someone else said before, it would be better for a beach front wedding. it would work better if even anyone else was wearing anything similar. But you only get married once (at least that's usually the plan) so you might as well wear what makes you feel beautiful. I would not wear it but that's my taste.

Xentor
February 25th, 2005, 02:02 AM
I wouldn't wear the groom's outfit either. Compared to that dress, he seems woefully out of place.

I like the dress. It's sexy. I bet the woman felt very sexy while dressing up. During the wedding I think they'd be too nervous to notice, so if you go into your wedding feeling the sexiest woman on earth, you'll have a blast.

If my fiancee were to wear a dress like that, I'd have to find something at least that sexy.

dude, Bob Mackie used to be huge!! I totally wanted one of his barbies. I think the dress is fantastic, it would be better on a beach or with a mediterranean theme. Oooh that would have been fantastic with lots of color and silk.

I'm going to go out on a limb here... Rock, is that you? I know I have seen pictures of both you and Athena-Nadine, and I want to say I recall you both being dark beauties (dark complexion, dark hair, etc.). If it is, I wonder how many of you are going to be apologizing out of your ass for calling her a hooker under the sea. :eyebrow:

Regardless, I like the dress. It's original, and has lots of shiny lil' things all over it (I like shinies!). It definitely looks better than most wedding dresses, to which I think in general usually appear as nothing more than the same damn dress over and over again...

Of course, if I ever got married that dress would not even compare with what I would wear, and I'd dare anyone to say anything snotty about it. If it's your wedding, I say do what you want and if people don't like it they can leave. No one that uptight is important enough to be at my wedding to begin with.

:rollingla at the Bob Mackie comment. It would look better on Barbie. On her, instead of a street walker, it looks like the Fo sand dolla holla from the coral reef. :bleh: The dress itself is pretty, but on a human, looks like an expensive piece of trash. It isn't flattering in the least bit and looks totally out of place. I don't know about the rest of you, but I was taught that the groom isn't allowed to see the bride's dress until the wedding. Maybe she didn't give him fair warning. If you're going to wear something that outrageous ladies, give your SO's fair warning, so they can dress appropriately for your dress.

edited to add
to those of you who seem to be on the defensive. I am not insulting her. I could care less about her. I don't know who she is, and I really don't care. Not to be rude, but I don't. I am insulting that horrid dress, and her sense of (or lack there of) style. She could be the sweetest person in the world, but that dress still sucks.

LMAO yes you will. I love the dress. I'd do something about the skirt to make it more in tune with the top, but aside from that, rock on! I hope to look half as good in my wedding dress, when I finally make it.

OMG! :rollingla No! :rotfl:

I'm extremely fair with red hair. And I have a nice body, but nowhere near that taut ;)

I don't know who the girl is - someone posted the pictures on another board I go to, and I wondered what the reactions here would be. I assume she's a belly dancer, since that's the style of the dress. It's a bit risque for me - I think people should look classy at their weddings, not flaunting their sex for all they've got - but I do agree that the beading at least looks very good on her. (The meringue skirt is weird though).

*...laughs...* I actually had someone ask me last night if it was me in the picture. :rotfl:

Like I said, I wouldn't wear it. I wore a dress that I loved and that looked amazing on me. It fit my personal sense of style, and had nothing to do with wearing what other people expected of me. No one even saw the dress until my wedding day (except for the Bridesmaid who came with me to help me try the things on).

I don't like it. Period. I think it's ugly as anything. As ugly as that thing in Family and Parenting being called a prom dress. I've seen plenty of equally revealing dresses that were GORGEOUS! To me, the dress looks cheap and it does look like something a Vegas showgirl would wear. *...shrugs...* So what? That's my personal opinion, and I have a right to it whether it offends someone or not. If it made her happy, more power to her. But I still can't shake the impression that eberyone was laughing at her in that first picture.

I'm with some others here, she and the dress would have looked much better on a beach setting with everyone else in styles that complimented her dress.I also think it's all out of place in the setting it's in.She looks like a hooker or showgirl...but on the beach with a specific theme...she would have looked awesome.

Gracecat
February 25th, 2005, 01:26 PM
I think it's staged personally. It's not a real wedding.

For one thing, she does pose in the first picture differently than most wedding photographs show. And another, his hand grips her tight above her hip. Again, look at *most* wedding photos, typically a groom is going to hold her a bit lower and at the curve of her hips. It should be a spread finger hold as well, where the palm and fingers are relaxed, slightly apart and personal.

In the second photo, two people are wearing banners. What's up with that?

Personally, whoever wanted to wear a dress like this is more interested in attention than the event. It's definitely a time where you could laugh and play afterwards, but the original purpose is very serious to me. It should be marked with an elegance and respect.

I think the dress is nasty. Not because it shows skin, because it just... doesn't work... Nothing on top, barely anything at the hips, and POOF from there down!! Just a bad design.

The thing that gets me is that she's the only one out of place. I have a feeling she was only tinking of herself at the time. It's NOT her wedding it's THEIR wedding. If he had on a similar outfit then I can see that they went for a theme. Renaissance, Goth, Elvis, Astronaut, Star Trek....

I think she looks rather pretty. I DO agree that she looks a little out of place. But I would hardly say she looks like a cheap piece of trash. As I said before, if the groom didnt like what she was wearing them Im sure he would have voiced his objections. As far as the rest of the family, who cares? Its not thier wedding. Granted we only have three pictures to go by, but they look like a happy couple starting a marraige. If it makes them happy, fantastic. You may not approve or like it, but you arent the one getting married and a wedding is a personal thing for two people, not a theatre piece put on for your entertainment. And to speak plainly I dont think you have a right to criticize(sp) something that has personal meaning to two people and is potentially the happiest day of thier lives. Be happy that theyre happy and to hell with the rest of it.

I was thinking the same thing. I got the feeling from the pictures that the people had just met. Not a real wedding.

I actually think the dress would be fine if everyone else was dressed in the same theme. (Well, the skirt could be a little bit higher and less poofy). Her features and coloring are sort of exotic looking so the dress suits her, it's just totally out of place the way everyone else was dressed. It would look better in an outdoor wedding with everyone wearing a sort of Mediterranean or Arabian Nights kind of style. :whatgives
