I just wanna do a little jig :steppy:
Been spending bits and pieces of time the past month looking for another dog to adopt. Usually, I go through shelters and rescues, but with 3 cats, a dobie and 3 kids... well, it's hard to find an older dog that will fit into that group. Expecially since I have an affinity to larger dogs, which most shelters don't like to adopt out to families with small kids.
Anyways, I was jumping around the net and found someone in the town next to me that is selling pitbull puppies for $125 each! They're 7 weeks old right now, and just starting to ween so they're not ready to leave yet... but he's got 2 little girls left and I'm going to meet them this weekend. :bouncybob
The kicker... my MIL is terrified of pitbulls... for some reason she thinks that they are going to eat her :crazylaug

Congratulations! A friend of mine has a pit bull and he's a very sweet loving loyal dog, very protective of the kids. He even sits protectively next to the baby and gives it an occasional lick.
Now that I think about it, maybe he isn't protecting the baby, but sampling it. Hmm. Well, good luck anyway, Valkie.

One of my buddies has a pit too... she adores kids! but she drives the youngest nuts (he's 2) She insists on kissing him over and over again... so he runs away from her yelling 'no!'. Then, he decides that he wants to go pet her and as soon as he gets near her, she starts kissing him again. It's the funniest thing to watch! :awilly:

awww doggies! I hate when people say this breed or that breed is viscious. One of the sweetest dogs I ever met was doberman. It's not the breed, it's how you raise the breed. Granted some breeds ARE genetically more agressive, but the degree depends on how they are raised.
If the pitbull thing doesn't work out, might I suggest a collie? I've grown up with that breed. They are SO SO SO sweet. They're afraid of thunderstorms though. Shelties are good too, they can be more energetic and yappy, but most aren't. We had a half collie half sheltie who liked to herd our ducks.
Good luck on your search.
People who have rescued pets rock. All mine, are rescues. Didn't pay for any of them. We just came by them. Two cats came to us. And a cat and dog were born here.
Really weird thing is, we've rescued 6 dogs. (2 were before I was born).
4 were collies, 1 was half collie half sheltie, and the newest edition, half collie half/quarter black lab. (born here, BIIIG surprise) - single pup litter
I swear my family is a collie magnet.

I'm going to meet them today. The pic that was with the ad was of them when they were 2 weeks and that was the whole little balled up with the mum. But most of them were blackish... as the general theme. I'll be able to pick them up sometime next week, either Tuesday or Wensday.

nope. Kat is the browner one. Kit has the little white line in the middle of her forhead.

I guess you don't have to worry about unexpected visits from MIL. :yayah:
Just kiding !
Find as many positive articles about the dogs as you can. When I was married to my ex. His daughter had 3 children, 4 if you count the hubby, had a male pitbull. He was so sweet . I really depends how they are raised and since you have they from puppies, she has little to worry about. I heard all the horror stories and thought they were nuts for getting him. And after I got to meet him and seen how good he was for the kids I changed my mind. I've seen TOY POODLE"S more aggerssive than the pitbull.
Best of luck with the new addtion to your family,

I'm trying to get the MIL to come over and see that they aren't the 'little monsters' that she thinks they are. Every other thing she's remembering some horror story that she heard involving a pit.
and I definately agree with the toy poodle thing. I use to work as a bather for a dog groomer. Pits, Danes, Rotties... never a problem, but there was no way in hell that the groomer was going to let me do the poodles or cockerspaniels. Most of the time they had to be muzzled just so we didn't have to worry about loosing a finger.

aww Very cute. I love pitbulls. I'm in grooming school right now and the only problem we ever have with pitbulls is they are so excited to be there it's hard to keep them from turning blue from excitement. haha
Now the breed that I've been bitten most by is the shih tzu. I've met a few sweet ones but I'm lucky if I make it out alive when I have to groom a grumpy one.

 As I told the groomer I worked with.. I can't blame any animal for having an attitude about someone shaving in between their toes and their ass.

Aww they are adorable!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!
I used to be a groomer and I agree!! The big dogs were the nicest, the meanest were the little dogs!! Cocker spaniels, shih tzus (which I have one, found him running the streets and my mom fell in love - he's a little shit to groom!) and little terriers. GRRRR!!! Would rather groom cats than them!!!
