Did anyone see the Lennon Tribute? If you did, what were your thoughts on it?
Here's the interesting part...i didn't know Kevin Spacey could sing. I love him as an actor but never heard him sing before. To me, he sang the most soulfully...and beautifully of all the "professional" singers up there. And, it was Mind Games that he sang. A beautiful song to begin with. So one, I'm here to show my appreciation for Mister Spacey. And, two, I'd like to know how I can let him know...like an address perhaps, let the station (TNT) know, that I liked what he did.
Thanks for info

You know, I thought that he was wonderful as well... And I have no idea why in the hades they chose Marc Anthony... He butchered the song that he sang... Natalie Merchant was amazing as well!

Most of the songs were butchered....but the one I liked was the one that sean lennon sang alone about ....shoot...julia. And, the one that Alanis Morrisette sang. Sorry, i have ZERO short term memory.
As far as I remember everyone else really blowed. Especially Come Together.

Shy hawk...get outta my head!!!!!!!! LOL...i was thinking about posting about this today! I too was blown away when Kevin Spacey Sang...he was actually really good! Alanis blew me away too...and I think that Stone Temple Pilots did a good job on Revolution. And I thought that Cyndi Laupers Strawberry Fields was really emotional and heart felt.

Oh good, I missed those two. They were both good too.
Kevin Spacey is a God to me now. (sigh)
Any ideas how to get in touch with him or TNT?

I missed half the show but I did catch Kevin Spacey...he is the man. I met him while he was filming a movie at Grand Central Station. He seemed really down to earth.

No camera though, so no pics to prove it. I guess you will have to take more word for it.

I only caught 3 parts. Sean singing w/Moby & another guy who I didn't recognize. Cyndi Lauper & shocking Kevin Spacey singing!!!! I shook Eschallet awake cause he LOVES him & we didn't know he sang either! Not a bad job on Mind Games either. Can't wait to see my Mom tommorrow. She LOVED :heartthro :heartthro John. I still remember the day he was shot. Well, the day after. My family & I were down in NYC on the 8th to see the Tree. It was then we discovered I suffer from panic attacks, cause I passed out among the crowds. I remember my Uncle asking my Mom if she wanted to drive by the Dakota, and she said no, she wanted to get me home. We probably would've seen it if we drove by. That freaks me out sometimes. I remember how sad she was for a long time & still gets sad. His b-day is coming, she always wears her fave Lennon shirt on that day & Dec. 8th. My family also knew & was friends with Harry Nilsson, one of John's (and all the Beatles) closest friends. *think "lost weekend" buddy*. He was such a nice man. I really liked him too. He died in '93, i think. The year the big earthquake hit LA.
I'm sorry, I went OT. About the tribute. I was really surprised there weren't more *family* at this show. I mean it was supposedly for John, so why weren't Ringo, Paul or George there. And why Kevin Spacey hosting. (sorry I only caught people singing, no talking or whatnot) Why not Peter Boyle. He was real good friends w/John or even that weird little guy from the behind the music on VH1. The tan guy w/the soothing voice, can't remember his name. But he, Yoko & John were like best pals.
I heard, from some guys on the radio that Nelly Furtado looked like she was out of the lion king? What's that all about. Was she even BORN when John got killed? Sorry to all her fans, but she just annoys the cr** out of me. And what's more, I heard she's dating MOBY!!! What's he thinking!
Sorry, OT again. I tend to ramble. I'm sorry! Don't yell at me! I'm going to end this post now. See, no more OT. I SWEAR!!!! (at least not in this post!).

The thing I most noticed missing...was JULIAN!!!!!!! There were touching songs from sean...touching pictures of Him and John when Sean was a baby..but NO mention of Julian..no pics of him! I know that Julian and Yoko have been fighting over the Estate (Julian being almost cut out completely)...but..for such an event..you'd think that either Yoko, or Julian, whoever was at fault..could put aside their greivances, and simply remember John as a father to MORE than just Sean. I was really upset by that. Julian is the SPITTING image of his father..it would have been nice to see HIM there, too.

Well, Yoko HATES Julian. And Julian has always been cut out from John's life by her. I'm not a big Yoko fan. Must've been my Mom's brainwashing, cause she doesn't like her either. She's said some BAAAAAAAD things about her.
From what I've learned, Julian & his Mom were practically HIDDEN from the public when the Beatles hit the US, so in a way, it doesn't surprise me that he wasn't there or probably wasn't even asked. It's a shame, that so many people loved his Dad, but, the one person that counted, never got the same attention.
BTW, the same has been said about Jerry Garcia. One of his daughters (Stella i believe) was quoted saying "He was a great musician, but a sh***y Father."

The feelings between Julian and Yoko are mutual. And, that's a fairly debatable story. I'd say John and Yoko were fairly equally distanced from Julian and his mother. Look at John's quote, "Julian was born out of a bottle of whiskey". That's loving no?
Dont' get me wrong, I love the guy...but I hate the Yoko bashing. It's not like when he was alive Yoko was even responsible. It was after all, his kid.
I am actually a big Yoko fan...and though I see fault where she did a couple things that weren't....well not what I would've done...she's an amazing person. You just have to get passed the demonizing of her.
And, no, she didn't break up the Beatles. ;)

Well..I agree that she didn't break up the Beatles..but I still don't like her. I think she tries too hard to capitolize off of him, and she always has. Just my opinion.
As for the Julian/John/Yoko thing...well..YES ...John was responsible for letting this happen to Julian. But...from what I've heard, John also LOVED Julian..he may not have loved JULIA...but he loved JULIAN. Hey Jude, afterall, is written about Julian. And John was there when Paul was cutting it. Helped with it, in fact. The thing is...John and Yoko were SOOOOOOOOO into their causes, and their issues, and their relationship. All of those are honorable things..but..not when a child is hanging in the balance. However..YOKO is responsible for HER OWN role in it..and for how she treated Julian after Johns passing.
I know the feelings between Julian and Yoko are mutual. I can't blame Julian for Hating her though..not after what she's done.
Anyway..it would have been nice to see them put their differences behind them for a moment. And it would have been great to see Julian again. I had high hopes for his career back in the days of Vollette (don't laugh)...I hoped he would take off. But..guess Step-monster had too many strings to pull...or something. He was the spitting image of his dad, though. Gorgeous!
Oh..btw..what was up with the Tim Roth speech??? Was he drunk or something? I thought his manner to be really innappropriate.

Sorry, I can't find anything about the woman tolerable. Maybe and only MAYBE her artwork. She turned John into a sniveling little baby. No I don't think she broke the Beatles up, they were destined to end. HOWEVER, from knowing certain people. I've gleaned info that isn't too pro-Yoko. She's maniuplative (sp??). She's even got Sean, who John stayed home for to help raise because of what he missed w/Julian, saying not nice things about his Dad's music. And if she's such a wonderful lady, how come the only child she's ever concentrated on was Sean. Where's her daughter. How come she never mentions her daughter, who she lost to the kids' dad. Must've been a reason, cause judges back in those days didn't take kids from their Mom's for no reason. Not once have I ever heard her make mention of her.
Okay, I'll stop. I'm sorry Shy if I've upset you in any way. I just don't like the woman. And from knowing a friend of John's personally, I dislike her even more. I have no respect for someone who uses & abuses like she does.

Please, no, you have not offended me. But I think a lot of the opinions out there are very biased against her.
First off...about her artwork...I love it. I'm a huge fan. I have been to a few of her exhibits...seen some of her movies, and own some of her music. Some find it intolerable though...to each his own.
As far as Yoko goes...I can't judge her, because I don't know her motivations....
But as far as her daughter goes, I hear that she has contact with her, and that the girl asked not to be mentioned because she doesn't want to be in the public eye.

The other guy singing with Sean was Rufus Wainright... amazing musician.. absolutely love him. :) I was watching it.. and I glance over at the other guy and start screaming, "RUFUS!!!!!" My poor boyfriend was scared out of his mind, he had no idea what I was screaming about.
I thought Kevin Spacey did such an amazing job. If I didn't know any better, I'd have thought he wrote the song himself.. he sang it with such emotion and passion. I'm a huge fan of his... amazing actor, and hey.. amazing singer also! :)
I don't like Yoko either. Thats all I'm gonna say about that.
I'd hoped Julian was going to get a big break, too... I had such a crush on him!!!!! :)
I didn't get to see all of it... but I watched it on the WB, not TNT. When you find the address, you should post it, so we can all write them a letter.

I caught the concert very briefly at work...... but somehow I had it in my head Julian would be there .......
"Come Together " applies to everyont BUT Yoko ???
With her millions .... she still wants Julian out of the picture??
I watched a special on Julian ....... John was attempting to reconcile with him prior to his being killed ........I think Yoko is a controlling B****........, nothing against those of you who like her .........but the part where she showed up in John and Cynthias house and sat at their table ...while they were still married........
I love Julian ........he is the image of his father ........and Sean is great too ..... think what they could accomplish if they could but ... come together .......

There was a 'Saturday Night Live' where Kevin sang for the entire monologue instead of talking. It was a Sinatra kind of song and they had funny captions saying how he was completely psycho. Very well done. He's been a favorite of mine for a while.
