My name is Rowan.
I stumbled upon your community last night when I was looking for Pagan Prayer Requests. What a wonderful community this is!!
A little about me. I was raised in the Baptist Chruch, in fact I am a PK (Preachers Kid). No, being pagan now really isn't a rebellion of what I have been taught. My mother was a practicing pagan as were my aunts. They made a decision after generations of being raised pagan to "save" their children the heartache of being different. My cousins and I were all raised in church.
My father was a very open minded (though stubborn man). He is the one who has given me the strength to seek my own path. As a child I was taught in Sunday School that everyone who does not know "God through Jesus Christ would go to hell". I became very upset. What about the people who don't hear?! Daddy sat me down and told me that "God" makes him/herself known to everyone in a way they can understand, through means that they understand. I have taken that belief with me on my path.
Who am I?
I am a survivor. Five years ago, I left my abuser, and thirty years of my life behind so that I might end the cycle of abuse, and my two small children might learn a different path. (they were both abused mentally, physically, and sexually) I am very happy to say that my children continue to amaze me. When I left my old life, I left behind "The American Dream." I went from very financially stable to very poor overnight. I have never for a moment regretted it.
My children each have their own altars, and compose their own remedies for things.
I have been ill for the last year and recently lost my temperary disability, and am awaiting long term disability approval. My illness is believed to be linked to the abuse I suffered.
That said, I have worked very hard to create a new life for myself and my children. I am about to marry my best friend. Inspite of my current set backs I feel very blessed and am a very happy person.
Thank you for allowing me to join your community.
Blessed Be.
