I know there are a number of us expecting here, and I thought it might be nice to have a thread where we can talk about our pregnancies (and complain, just a bit! ;) ). Also, if everyone gives me their due date, I'll update it monthly so we can see who's coming up and who's joined us recently.

I'll start - my official due date is Sept 29 2005. :thewave:

I have had 6 babies in the past 7 years. We want two more. We were going to try again this summer. However, it has been almost 3 months since my c/s, and I am still pretty tender. I can't imagine the incision stretching. This was my 1st c/s and it really sucked. I want to try for a VBAC, but that isn't always guaranteed, so I dunno. We may wait until summer 2006 to conceive. I am on the fence right now.

CONGRATS TO ALL PREGGY MOMS!!!!!!!!

Classic VBAC book: Silent Knife by Nancy Cohen. Likely Horsecrow or one of the other midwives can suggest something with more recent information.

Please keep in mind that due dates on babies aren't always accurate. Only about 5% of babies are born on their medically appointed dates. Don't stress out if your wee bairn is a few days before or after.

Well obviously, especially in cases where the exact date of conception isn't known. I DO know mine, and I'm still expecting my babe to come a good 2 or 3 weeks late, just like all of my sisters and I!

Well, I have had 5 girls and 1 boy. My last pregnancy was twins. When we found out that they were both girls, we agreed we would have 1 more pregnancy, and try for a second boy. That would have made 7. Sadly, on of the twins was stillborn, so though I have 6 babies, I only get to raise 5. We would still like to try for a second boy. But I just don't feel that I would be done with just one more, so we are thinking 2 more.

I don't want to have more than that because 1. we would have to buy a new vehicle and 2. By that time, I would likely be 31-32 when I had my 8th. My grandmother gave birth to a Downes baby at 39, so with family history, I wouldn't feel comfortable to continue having kids long into my 30s.

WOW you go girl!!!! :clapping: If I thought for one second I could afford or even just handle it emotionally then I would MAYBE have 4 lol. I have a nine year old right now and am approaching 31 whilst carrying this child...in a couple of years we will have one more. My son is from a previous marriage and my hubby would like two of his own. 7 children is a lot of love and hard work and I give you props for even wanting to do it!!! :thewave:

Ok, I have a question for all of you. Have you tried meditating/communicating with your baby? I keep having the strangest experience. I'm usually very in control with my meditation - especially when I'm focusing on my body and its sensations. However, whenever I try to focus on my baby, to get a feel for its aura or even just to get a feeling for my uterus, I fall FAST asleep! :collapse: It's almost instantaneous.

I mean, I know one tends to be very tired in 1st trimester, but I can still do normal mediations and focus on other parts of my body. It's almost as if baby's saying "Mama, I'm WAY too busy to talk right now, you get out of here!"

What have your experiences been?

Amethyst Rose
March 10th, 2005, 03:33 PM
I tried when I was pregnant, but hit a wall... it was like he already knew how to block me out. Whenever I tried to meditate I could sense everything about myself but the womb...it was like I didn't even have one. Empathically, however I could feel something...not emotion exactly, but a presence. That was as close as I could get.

Rockprincess
March 10th, 2005, 03:40 PM

I haven't really been able to "feel" much through meditation either but I have dreamed her and the dreams are so vivid I can smell her. I did this with my son as well and this is how I knew what I was having. Im my two dreams of my son they came before the preg test..he was a very small child..maybe 6 months old..in a car seat. This one however is a girl who is probably 3 or 4 years old with very dark hair and the most intense blue eyes I have seen..she seems very gentle and in one dream is on my sons bed playing with her dolls and the other sitting in my lap as I bury my face into her hair and hug her..It just makes me want to meet her even more..

Ok, I have a question for all of you. Have you tried meditating/communicating with your baby?

I haven't tried at all yet. I don't really want to try until I'm a bit farther along, in case anything goes wrong. Not that it's something I worry about...if the worst does happen, then it will happen if I want it to or not so there's no point stressing about it. But I suppose I'm a bit superstitious, like not buying any baby stuff until the six months mark. My nan always said it's tempting fate otherwise.

Another thing is that I don't really feel pregnant at the moment. More so now I'm getting bigger, approaching the 16 week mark and all that, but it still doesn't seem real. I think I'm feeling it kick now, but they say 16 weeks is early for a first child so I'm not convinced. Maybe when I am sure it will all sink in :D

Without going into too many details, Hubby and I are not able to have anymore because there is a 50-50 chance I would not survive carrying a Little to term...so, as soon as possible, we sent him for a vasectomy, just because it's a less invasive surgery than for me to have a tubal....and we're just not up to adopting, at least not now, maybe in a few years.

I have my ultrasound and nuchal translucency test today. I am excited to see my baby again!

Can you post pics? How many ultrasounds do you get throughout your pregnancy? I only get two, one at 10 weeks and one around 20 weeks, unless problems are indicated.

Rockprincess
March 17th, 2005, 08:03 PM
I will try to scan pics. It was so great to see my little one today! He/She was very active, and swallowing amniotic fluid - I thought it was hiccoughs!

Happily, the nuchal translucency test put me in an extremely low probability of genetic disorders, so we don't have any scary decisions to make.

I had an ultrasound at 8 weeks, but most people here don't get that. My doctor just wanted to make sure it was a viable pregnancy (she'd had some scares with other patients recently). This one at 12-14 weeks (I'm 12w4d) is standard, and like you, we get another at 18-22 weeks. I think they'll also do one later if they are worried about anything.

I'm so glad we had the one today - Si said it was the first time he had a flutter in his tummy from excitement. And it made me realize how "alive" my little one is!

~SleepyWillow~
March 18th, 2005, 08:21 AM
Inly had two ultrasounds so far...I have approximatley 3 months to go and no plans for another. Have any of you seen these 3D ultrasounds? Theres a place here in Mississauga where I live that does them...it's about $175 bucks but you get a 30 minutes sonogram with sound as well as pics on a CD and an actual picture as well. You can see the babys actual facial features, fingers, toes its really amazing here is the link if you want to see Im really considering going..

Do you know the college of obstetricians in canada recommends that ultrasounds not be done routinely on every women, let alone repeatedly? I am not trying to give you a hard time, just pointing out there are reasons to decline them.

Rockprincess

I know that some people feel there could be a danger from ultrasounds, but I feel that the benefits outweigh the risks. For me, knowing my risk of having a Down's Syndrome child is more important than the vague worry that ultrasounds might cause some unknown harm.

~SleepyWillow~
March 23rd, 2005, 11:00 AM
Yes these 4D ultrasounds must be paid for. Im guessing that if you are lucky maybe the ultrasound clinic you go to offers them and then it would be coverd by health care. I agree with the benefit of having an ultrasound outweighing the risk. I would rather know ahead of time if we had to prepare for a child with Downs or Spina Bifida. From what I have read it would take quite a few ultrasounds to slow the development of the baby (which is the actual cause for concern) but then once the baby is delivered they catch right up up to a baby who only had one scan. There are no actual stats showing that the babies are harmed in any way. There was an article out in the U.K recently that had tested babies and ultrasounds over the last ten years. I h ad two done with my son 10 years ago and this one has had two as well. The hospitals don't like to do more than that due to the cost unless there is a real problem that they need to see. I think most women who have two ultrasounds can rest assured that it will not harm the baby.

Its true, there are some worries there might be a small chance of long term effects, but that isnt the main reason I spoke up. I do agree that in many cases having an U/S is a good idea. I had one with my last pregnancy because I had a bad feeling about Spina Bifida and I felt the benefits of finding out my worry was unfounded and so not being stressed about that would be worth it.

However, the greatest problem with U/S is not in the risk of the procedure, but in what they do with the information they get from them, particularly in the USA and Canada where once you get on the intervention merry-go-round, its very hard to get off. I am not trying to start arguments on here, but I am trying to share what I learned (the hard way) about unneccessary interventions. There are plenty of books about this subject if you know where to look, but its not likely your mother, girlfriend or doctor is going to recommend them. When I had my first, I had no idea there WERE even any arguemnts against using technology and that is why i spoke up. I wont disrupt this thread again.... :)

Please do keep disrupting us :) I'm sorry if my answer seemed snippy, it wasn't meant to be. I do appreciate it when people give warnings like that - I often do myself, when I know information someone else might not. I was just responding that for me, ultrasounds are worth it.

What do you mean by the intervention merry-go-round? I tend to think of that more at labour time, when unnecessary inductions lead to unnecessary epidurals which lead to unnecessary c-sections.

~SleepyWillow~
March 24th, 2005, 10:27 AM
I agree with the unecessary interventions. Apparently there are small things that happen during the development of baby in the womb that actually work themselves out during pregnancy. Sometimes a Dr will be quick to say there is a problem and immediately try to fix it although they should just leave it alone. I also think that unfortunately a lot of the ultrasound technicians say things they shouldn't to the mother who in turn gets worried or upset when really there is no need to be...Im going to go and find an article I read about ultrasounds and the issues they can create...
Heres one...
http://toronto.babyzone.com/features/content/display.asp?ContentID=1526

I just want to add that..although I personally feel an ultrasound is the way to go to ensure no seriouse issues, women have been having babies forever and there was a time when there was no such thing as an ultrasound. My grandmother just had to wait and see what the baby would be like and if it would be healthy. When I had my son I did not do the downs test (which at the time was just blood work and possibly an amnio) because I felt that if he had downs it just wouldn't matter..I mean I would not have aborted the pregnancy anyway and so i left it. Then I had a one in 900 chance I think..now It's 1 in 400 and I guess because Im older Im not taking for granted that everything will just be fine. I was also MUCH more comfortable in the fact that they were not going to give me a false positive and want me to do an amnio because Im not comfortable with that test at all.

I do think though that most women are not told everything by thier Dr. regarding risks or studies being done in and around prenatal testing. I think that unless you actually ask, a lot of OB's just don't offer the info. Im glad that there are boards like this and others where women CAN share what they know...So Radikalwoman please do share because there is always something to be learned from someone else regardless or personal oppinion.

Rockprincess
March 24th, 2005, 10:44 AM
Well, that sounds like poor behaviour on the part of the radiologists! Ours are not allowed to say ANYTHING about the state of the baby. If there is something that needs attention, they have to leave the room and get a doctor to come talk to you.

I am so surprised about all the intervention stuff, actually. I always thought pregnancies were like my mom's - relaxed, easy and natural - until I started havign friends having babies. Then they were all doing all this extra medical stuff - it offended me at first. Now I realize it's because they (the mothers) are not comfortable with their bodies or nature, and they require the medical stuff to reassure them. It still don't think it's a good idea, but at least I'm not horrified when I hear about it anymore.

Amethyst Rose
March 24th, 2005, 10:48 AM
What kind of medical stuff was offered to you? Nothing was ever offered to me... my pregnancy was very easy and relaxed, and we had a natural birth.

Rockprincess
March 24th, 2005, 10:53 AM
Nothing's been offered to me - that's one of the reasons I'm surprised at how much other people have. Well, except for the extra ultrasounds, I guess. I had one at 7.5 weeks to confirm the healthy pregnancy, one at 12.5 weeks to check the nuchal translucency, and I'll have the normal one at 19 or 20 weeks.

Other people seem to have a lot more testing, monitoring, medicating, etc. That's what I meant.

I actually know you had a natural pregnancy and childbirth - that's one of the reasons I feel confident that I'll be able to as well, if I want it :)

Seren_
March 24th, 2005, 12:44 PM
Nothing extra's been offered to me either. It's standard over here to be offered screening for spina bifida and downs - just a blood test to establish the risk so it's not invasive like an amniocentesis. I'm not particularly bothered about it, but I figure if there is a risk, then I can at least prepare myself and read up on stuff.

~SleepyWillow~
March 24th, 2005, 07:01 PM
With my son I went in for my regular check up two weeks before my due date. At that check my Dr said his heartbeat wasnt very fast...he gave me a can of pop and an hour later nothing had changed. I was sent to triage to be checked again andthey decided to induce me by I.V drip saying the baby was in distress. I was in hard labour for 27 hours because I wouldn't dilate and they tried to section me twice..freezing me solid with an epidural and then as soon as they were ready they found his heartbeat again. It was a more than stressful event. Once we actually got to the point of delivery it turned out that the cord was around his neck and so when I contracted he was trying to move down but couldn't. Looking back I often wonder if they had just left us alone would he have come when he was supposed to without the problems. I heard his heart beat at the appointment and honestly I didn't think it sounded any different than any other time. I really hope this time around I can just do it the way it's supposed to be. I would love to go natural this time.

Sleepy, that was as well said as I would have done. Thats exactly the problem - they find things to get uptight about that 30 years ago werent even issues because they had no idea it was going on.
I have talked to lots of new mums through my breastfeeding counselling who were told all kinds of thing - too much fluid, not enough fluid, good chance of downs syndrome, cysts and growth problems and all sorts of things. The mothers worried TERRIBLY because of these findings all through their pregnancies and often found out that in the end it was nothing to worry about.
America has more technology surrounding birth than any country in the world, I believe, and yet as of 2001, they ranked 25th in infant mortality. This means your baby is safer born in 24 other countries before the United States. That is absolutely staggering and Canada isnt far behind. Maybe you all could chip in for a ticket so HorseCrow would come over here and catch your babies because the Netherlands ranked one of the lowest in infant mortality that year.
I have great difficulty in posting on threads such as this without sounding like the grim reaper. If anyone is interested, I can post some books I found helpful, although you all seem much better informed than I was when I had my first. I was completely ignorant and ended up with the whole nine yards as far as intervention, stopping just shy of a c/section, so I do feel compelled to encourage pregnant mums to explore these arguemnts against pregancy and birth intervention.

Anything you can share is much much appreciated Radikal. I think that at this point Im lucky because I have age and some experience on my side now. When I had my first I was only 22 and completely clueless. I followed my Dr's instructions to the fullest but now I realize that you need to ask or sometimes demand information and make your own decisions as far as your pregnancy and birth go. Another thing to point out would be that you cannot beleive everything you read on the internet. The books written by Dr's...pediatricians, OB's etc are your best bet always. It is best to have help to seperate fact from myth when you aren't sure so please do post.

Not at all! It's good to hear someone being more cautionary and realistic than a lot of the books are out there (in the limited selection of my local bookstore, anyway).

When I was 14 weeks pregnant with my daughter, my doctor phoned me at work to tell me I had a cyst the size of a grapefruit on my left ovary...and that he had scheduled surgery for the next day to remove it. No discussion, it had to come out, no, I could not have a few days to discuss it with my hubby, it had to come out, be at the hospital at 6 am.

I sobbed on my bosses shoulder for an hour or so, he made an appointment for me with his wife's OB/GYN for that afternoon, she checked me, sent me for an ultrasound, and had results back that day, showing not a cyst, but an extra egg had come loose, and was filling with fluid....essentially, had the egg stayed with the other, we would have had twins, but it got lost and was filling with fluid outside the ovary. Because it wasn't causing me any pain, she said to leave it for now, and that we'd have another ultrasound in a month to see what it was doing...she then referred me to a midwifery service...the next US showed the egg had shrunk to the size of a quarter....

Delivery, heh, well that's another story... :geez:

It's quiet around here! How are things going for everyone?

Hey everyone - I can't remember if I let you know that I was leaving Houston to come home - I only stayed down there a week, because I got quite sick :( Just more pregnancy stuff - headaches and throwing up - but it made me miss a lot of class - not much point in being down there for that!

So I came home, spent a few days recovering, spent a few more days just doing whatever I felt like, and now I am back at work, 2 weeks earlier than planned! I tell you, I really enjoyed the days off where
I wasn't sick - I'm really looking forward to the fall!

My tummy is showing from the side (although from the front it's hardly visible, I still have waist definition, surprisingly). I'm so excited for my 20 week ultrasound (even though it's still 3 weeks away!) I lie very still and try to feel the baby move every night, but so far nothing. At least nothing like the bubbles or butterflies some of you have described. I'm sure it will be soon - my books say 18-20 weeks is most common for first time Moms.

I have to copy and paste the story about my baby room for you...my husband is so incredible...

Before I left for Houston, I was trying to get Silas interested in discussing the different options for buggies - you know, very pressing concerns around here! ;) He was only semi responsive and asked why it even mattered, and I ended up saying "Because YOU'RE not the one who's going to have to cart this baby around all day every day!" At which point he participated more fully in the conversation ;)

Well, apparently he felt badly about the whole thing, because as soon as he and my mom and sister dropped me at the airport, he said to them "Ok, Eowyn thinks I'm not interested in this baby, I'm going to show her differently!" (I never thought that, but apparently he thought I did).

They went on a baby shopping spree, and got almost everything I could need for the baby (except the buggy, lol). Then when I called and said I was coming home early, they went into overdrive - cleaned out our computer den, painted it a beautiful colour of sea green (which Si picked to match the froggies on a baby blanket he'd bought), set up all the baby furniture, and set out the clothes and diapers and
everything you can possibly imagine...all in one day!

When I came home, after we'd all sat around relaxing for a while, he went in the kitchen and picked up one end of a baby monitor and said "What's that? Do I hear a baby?" I looked at them all in surprise, and we went upstairs...I opened the door to what I thought was the den...and I burst into tears. It was so sweet and beautiful and he did such a wonderful job! (With the sage guidance of my Mom ;) ) I am very lucky.

That's about all my news...I hope everyone else is feeling well and
having fun. :)

I even go horseback about 2x a week if my work schdual allows it. stress was pretty high for a few days and i thought that i might have felt the lil bugger move but it could have just been a muscle twitch i have an appointment on fiday so will check in then. i just can't wait till i find out what im having so i can start getting some baby stuuf. well more than i have.

Well BRwolf, you and the baby are probably better off without him if he's that casual about it. I'm glad you're still feeling well - the only thing I'd worry about is the farm work as you get further along. Do you have any one lined up to help when you start getting big enough that you can't safely handle 60lb hay bales? Anyone from neighbouring farms who could help you out in return for help from you later?

I live with two other people. We help each other out. And I have a guy friend not far from home that said he would help with what he could. So the farm is taken care of. Im not worried about him even though i miss him to death. Hes supposed to come to the doc appointments so we will see if he sticks to that.

Well everything seems to be going fine for me so far. I was a bit worried for a while after I started feeling movement, sometimes I didn't feel anything for days until I realised I'd just got used to it! The movement's getting stronger now, so it's harder to ignore. There've been some that I've seen actually make my belly pop out, so hubby's all excited because things are really happening now.

I have my next ultrasound on Friday, which I'm really looking forward to. Hopefully we'll find out the sex (both our families want a boy, and while we think it's a boy, I'm really not that picky). Is everyone else going to find out? Everyone keeps telling me not to, because "it won't be a surprise", or I'll be disappointed if it's not what I want - I just want it to be healthy!

We're not finding out, Seren. I have a slight preference for a girl, and I don't want to be disappointed if it's a boy. I know that if I just wait til it's born, I'll be so thrilled I will be happy with either!

Well we are getting close here! I had my prenatal appointment yesterday...baby is right on target! Doc is very happy with everything and so are we..I almost have everything we need just a few more things. Lot's of movement but shes not kicking so much as rolling around..theres not much room in there at this point. The HICCUPS are CRAZY I can feel them all the time but that's good because it shows shes learning how to breath. Shes finally head down and the pressure at times is intense not to mention I can hardly sleep anymore but Im tired all the time just like the first trimester. Just over a month and a half and I can't wait to hold her..Black River Im so sorry about what you have to go through right now! It even angers me a little that he could be so non existent..I really hope everything works out for the absolute best for you.
Rockprincess..you have a real sweetie there! My hubby has been the best and it certainly helps. I have had 4 ppl tell me they think I'm having a boy..I suppose we could get a surprise but they say an ultrasound is 80% and that's pretty high plus theres that little nagging voice that has been telling me the whole time. I won't mind one way or another either although I do have a slight preferance for a girl as well..well of to continue cooking the baby..

Well now I know it's a boy, I'm still stumped on names. We'll probably go with Loughlin if nothing else inspires us, though I'm still loath to lump the poor kid with such a mouthful. I'd also like to have a kind of shortlist of names, to see which one suits him best when he comes along.

Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with the hormones? I'm so moody my husband has just done the dishes, tidied the living room, vacuumed (including the stairs) and put all the washing away out of sheer terror. He never does housework, especially without me asking. I don't usually get moody with hormones (that I'm aware of anyway :D ).

I left him because i got scared and ran and for various other things that got me upset at the time. but Im fine baby is doing fine. We rethought our boys name from Ian Cole to Adain Cole Bloyer-Waugh and our girls names are still Taylor Rayne or Hunter Morrigan. We have always thought equal about things for the little one and since now there is no chance of us getting married we decided to give the lil one both last names. We still get along and love eachother but we fight all the time to betogether would be a bad thing.

Loughlin's the family spelling, but it's pronounced pretty much the same way as Lachlan (to my ears, anyway). It's not that we can't use the alternative spelling, it's just that hubby wouldn't want to (which means the kid will probably get called "Lufflun" round here to those who aren't introduced by name).

~SleepyWillow~
April 30th, 2005, 09:33 AM
We have chosen Chelsea Ann for a girl and the just in case boy name is William Thomas. We chose our names based on family, my hubbys Nanny was Ann and his Grandfather was Chesley. Then my father in law's middle name is William and hubbys other grampa is Thomas as well as hubby's brothers middle name...Im sure what I just typed was totally confusing LOL. But yes all family names..if I had my way the boy name would be Chesley because it's not a name you hear but my hubby thinks it's too old for a little boy. Well I have had four ppl tell me now that they think Im having a boy...you know the way you carry and the way you look or your mannerisms type stuff. I know that the ultra sound is 80% for a girl which is really high...but I have been relying on the dreams I have had and my own intuition from the beginning. Sometimes though I find myself doubting those instincts a little. Before I would say it's absolutely a girl..no matter what ppl said but now I find myself saying well I guess maybe we could get a boy...there is a chance of course. Do any of you have that strong instinct for the sex of your baby and if so do you sometimes doubt yourselves based on what others say to you? When I was pregnant with my son I knew from the beginning it was a boy also based on dreams and intuition, sooo many ppl said I was having a girl then but it never really shook that feeling and even now it's not shaking the feeling for me it's just a slight doubt...I only had the two dreams one where she was about 4 yrs old and the other she was an infant...the dream was so vivid I could smell her...she's a beautiful child with dark hair and blue eyes...Im so excited to see her and smell that baby smell hehehe..

just a quick edit to also send some energy with love and strength to you BRW..you will get through this and you will be just fine! What matters at this point is that Bear plays an active role of Father..you never know what the future will hold for the two of you sometimes a child can really strengthen the bond between parents.

The last weeks can be just TORTURE, cant they? I recall turning over in bed being a strategic operation involving no less than a dozen individual moves to orchestrate. You sound like you are nicely nesting. Have a fantastic birth, and please do not hesitate to email me if you have any questions or problems with breastfeeding....I am a councellor and I know those first few days are really a critical time to get some good information.

I'm at 28 weeks now, and having problems with my pelvis and hips. I can't lie on either side for very long without being in pain, so I'm having to sleep propped up on pillows. The problem is, my arms keep going to sleep because of the positions I end up sleeping in, so a decent night's sleep is a far and distant memory...good practice, though, I guess. But at least it helps stop the backache during the day.

I haven't been feeling very big yet, up until yesterday when I saw some friends and they said that I looked really pregnant. And a taxi driver gave us a lift home even though we didn't have enough money, but he could see I was pregnant and very kindly came to my rescue :) Now I've kind of noticed "yeah, I do have quite a big bump!"

And I feel for you, I really do, SleepyWillow. I'm already at the impatient stage, I can't imagine what it's like being so close. I hope it's sooner rather than later!

Thank you Radikalwomyn I just may be sending you email ;)!! Yes TORTURE that is exactly how I would describe it hahaha. Oh boy I have 8 days to go!! I have most of the baby stuff washed and finally got my dresser/change table so I'm filling it up. Hubby will be put to work today as I have decided to rampage through the apartment and throw away all kinds of things that have just been sitting in closets and such. My OB thinks the baby will be a fair size...apparently she's quite rounded and she totally fills the space..*grimace* I really hope shes not TOO big lol. My son was 7pds on the nose and I know babies get subsequently(sp?) bigger. My son is starting to get excited as well...I was a little worried about his reaction for a bit..he has been really clingy and lovey which is strange considering he's 9 and he had this whole "don't embarass me mom" attitude going on LOL. He seems to be taking on the roll of big brother already and can't wait to meet the baby as well :)

Seren I hope you are able to find a way to sleep comfortably. My arms have fallen asleep through my whole pregnancy. I am naturally a belly sleeper so this has been a real challenge. I do however find that if I lie more toward my belly on my left side that I sleep better. When I get up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night I switch sides so that my arms get some circulation. Doesn't help that hubby is a cuddler through the nite though ;) Under normal circumstances I wouldn't complain but lately I find myself telling him to get off hahaha.

Well Ladies if I'm not on the board before my delivery I will definately post afterward and let you all know how it goes!!

I am 2cm dilated and quite quite effaced!!! the baby has moved all the way down! She actually cannot go any further except to come out :) Doc did a cervical sweep...well three sweeps actually which was very very uncomfortable but she feels that it will start to move things forward a little more quickly :bigblue: . So things are lookin good and I must say that I am extremely excited :hearthear ...looks like we may have our baby by Fathers day which mad Daddy pretty happy too!

Yes Rockprincess you are right and thank you very much for the well wishes! :thewave: Chelsea Ann Pierce was born on June 18th at 10:22am. She was 7 lbs and 14 oz, 19 inches long :loveduv: . My contractions were ten minutes apart at 4am..we went to the hospital at 7am only to find that I was still only 2cm dilated (what a dissapointment) I walked for an hour and came back and was 5 cm!! They worked hard to break my bag of waters...apparently the membrane was quite thick. Once the water broke the contractions were real strong...they were preparing me for an epidural but when I rolled over the urge to push came on strong. I had an epidural with my first pregnancy but I had no pain releif at all for this one!! It was painful but VERY quick. Her apgar was 9 which made me very happy :clapping: . We were home in approximately 26 hours which was great and she is just beautiful!! She's nursing quite often right now..last night she wouldn't let me take her off the breast but Im so full it's probably a good thing. Im going to attach a pic for you all to see!!!

Had my 12 week ultrasound today, in conjunction with a Downs Syndrome test. The baby's taking up my entire uterus, which is kinda weird, cause when I had my previous ultrasound, you could barely make out anything, but now you can see fingers and legs, the spine and so forth. Really exciting. Another eight weeks and I'll know if its a boy or a girl. The wait is killing me.
Plus, next time I'm taking in a VCR cassette so I can get the ultrasound recorded.

That is so wonderful to hear about both of your ultrasounds :heartthro I loved my 12 week ultrasound because you could see the whole little babe on the screen at once. I was sort of disappointed with the 21 week ultrasound because baby was so big you could only see bits and pieces of the body at once! I also had the very early one at 6.5 weeks, it was so reassuring :)

We haven't had updates from our next soonest mamas recently. I wonder where they are and how things are going?

Hi guys, I"m back from vacation :)

I hope everyone is doing ok?

Welcome and congratulations, Maia.

BRW, how exciting, a little girl!

My little cousin who is almost 4 informed me that I'm having a boy - she said she can tell my looking at my tummy. Half of me is laughing at her cuteness, half of me thinks maybe it's one of those child's intuition things, you know? But I'm still just guessing, and the feeling changes day to day, so who knows :)

So it looks like we're waiting for updates from Shandrel and Amarantha - I hope you're both well and that your babies are here happy and beautiful!

That is just too cute. I have had three people insist that I'm having a boy already. It's pretty funny how certain people sound.

My doctor changed my due date to February 17th, based on my last ultrasound, which puts me at 10 1/2 weeks. :thewave: I think she just did it because the 17th is her birthday.

RubyRose

Hope your vacation was good.

I'm okay, morning sickness sucks though. Seems it decided to hit during the second trimester and not the first. Half my luck.

Everybody I know, is insisting I'm having a boy. Rhyce is dead set that its a boy too. His grandmother, Ngaire (pronounced: Ny-ree) thinks its twins, because the hair and ring test she did, swung in the direction for boy, then stopped, and then in the direction for girl. I just thinks it means, I'll have two children close together, cause I've only seen one baby show up in the ultrasounds. And surely with today's technology they wouldn't have missed something like that.

Maia
July 26th, 2005, 03:49 PM
Pink me up, it's a little girl in there! The scan was amazing, we saw her sucking her thumb, pressing this tiny little foot up against the scanner - I think my partner was quite overwhelmed, he's become so much more...involved since seeing her onscreen (he couldn't make it to my 12wk scan).

So, yeah, Laila Mae is healthy and well & should be here in 4 and a bit months :)

That was quick! Thankyou!

All compliments re. the name are to be directed at Bloke; if I had my way she'd be 'Lydia Mae' but apparently 'Lydia' is awful & a rubbish name etc etc etc :P so instead we're calling her 'Laila', inspired by the Eric Clapton song of all things (although I've doctored the spelling somewhat!) 'Mae' is in remembrance of my nan, and luckily we both like it!

I think the "naming babies after music/ians" thing is a tradition amongst the men in my family; my dad fought tooth & nail to have my brother named 'Dylan' after Bob Dylan, so I thought I'd quit while I was ahead! lol

My due date is January 29. I did not have the 12 week ultrasound. I had one at 6 weeks and 9 at 9 weeks. I guess the doctor wanted to make sure the baby was there. I heard his/her heartbeat twice. Still dont know if its a boy or a girl.
I havent had morning sickness. I only thew up once (monday) but I think that it was because of what I ate or maybe due to my mood. Other than that, I sleep a lot and been depressed for the last three days. I guess It's because I am supposed to move to Gainesville by sunday but I dont want to go alone. My bf was suposed to go with me but he is starting his own business here along with his father so he wont be going with me. I will have to finish grad school here, so I am not sure if I should go to UF for a semester and then change to UPR. I am driving my bf away as I fight with him almost every day. I feel so lost, I dont know what to do . . .

Merry meet all,

Just found this area. I am newly pregnant and due april 10. I am 41 and we will be moving to TN in Sept. My first OB appt will be next week. I guess after I move I will have to look for another midwife/OB.

DH and I are planning on doing everything as natural as possible. Home birth, cloth diapers and breast feeding. It is amazing how much miss information is out there about all 3 of these. Home birth has recently become a big no no but hospital birth has not been that poplular for that long. Just since the 60's and there are more complications with it than home birth. Everyone has fallen to coprated advertizing for throwaway dipers but they have alot of chemicals in them that are us and the land. Cloth is now just as easy as disposables. It is more cost effective and cleaner all around. One can really see how the big business has changed things when one looks at childbirth and child raising.

At present we're going to be calling him Alexander Drake. My parents are stuck on the fact that Drake is what you call a male duck, but Rhyce and I found it can also mean, Dragon which is the intended meaning we both like. Only thing is I'm not keen on the nickname Alex, which my dad is saying might be a problem because that is likely what he'll be called.

Alexander is a wonderful name! A nn that is often used in Scotland is Alec, if you like that any better. Sasha is the russian nn for Alexander. Basically, whatever you adress him as, other people will too :bubbles:

In Scotland a common shortening for Alex is Eck.

I think Alec is worse than Alex, personally.

I think if we are going to shorten Alexander to anything it will be Xander/Zander. Not sure on spelling yet, I spell it with an X and Rhyce spells it with a Z.

Sasha/Sacha is out, seeing as the last dog my family owned was named Sasha, kinda unfortunately because I like Sacha as a nickname.

Speaking of following suit. I think it will happen, if not straight away eventually.

I don't really want to have to go back to the drawing board name wise.

Just wanted to do a quick update. We had our second ultrasound today, and it's a girl! She's apparently either small or I'm due about a week later than originally thought, but since there's no way to be sure, I'm going to stick with January 10 as my due date; It's not like it's going to make a big difference to her what day I think she's supposed to get here.
We're going to name her Emily Rose.

Definitely. The amount of superfluous stuff they try to convince you that you need when more recently than not people were just lining the bottom drawer with a couple of blankets if they were short on cash for a crib. Now unless you've got a state-of-the-art travel system there's this sense that you'll be "disadvantaging" your child. What a load of trip.

And the expense!!! Don't get me wrong, my partner & I knew that this little endeavour would be painfully expensive, but still. I told a friend how much the pram we like would cost & her jaw dropped - when I pointed out it one was of the cheapest available she nearly had heart failure.

Can you tell I've reached the "ranting, hormonal" stage? ;) hehe

hey all. My lil is doing good and my BP has gone down so much the Doc that they switched me to said that he didn't get it. "Should be getting worse not better" oh well they want to have me induced two to three weeks early but i don't see the point to that she is doing well and growing fast. they had me going in twice a week for ultrasounds and regular appointments. we find out on tuesday EFW (estimated weight) Bear is getting excited and has started cross stiching a wall hanging for her room at his house. Her clothes have taken up my closest her dresser and mine. will try to keep ypu updated as much as possible later.

I haven't really begun clothes shopping yet. I've got a few things, that were bought and made by family members, before we knew the baby was definitely a boy.

As for any other items, nothings really been bought in that department.

My husband and I are at an impasse on the topic of names for our daughter. I set up a poll on BabyCenter, maybe some of you would like to put in your two cents. The link is http://www.babycenter.com/babypoll/63LW (http://www.babycenter.com/babypoll/63LW) . If you have more ideas, post away, my brain hurts from all the searches and lists.

I know things are nuts for the lil ones. I was lucky to have gotton the crib for Taylor on sale at walmart for like $100.00 at it coverts to the other beds that she will need so no need to buy others. As far as clothes go im taking donations fro friends who lready have kids. Whats the point of getting all new stuff when they grow so fast as babies its hard sometime to keep up with them. Or you get lil ones like my brother and i who were born wearing 6-9 mos clothes anyway. mom had to return all the nwborn stuff that she had bought or gotten. it nuts.

We're lucky enough to have a lot of the expensive stuff still from our 2nd youngin'. But the new one being our first girl, and our last child, I must admit I'm going a little over board already! At least I've made good use of second hand stores, they're life savers, but the prices are so low I end up buying more than I need which equals out to the few things I needed from a new store!:doh2:

Just wanted to add as a side note: Seventh Generation, an eco. friendly company is test selling their diapers at Targets right now, a few of them. I LOVE 'um! They're less expensive than other friendly brands, about the same as Loves. Anyways, if you see them, give um a try!

Sofya - is there anything you guys agree on, such as wanting to honour a friend or relative, or wanting a name from a certain heritage? I voted for Bridget and Ayla in your poll, but the range of name types was quite wide, so it's hard to tell what other suggestions would suit you both!
