Hi Animal lovers!

Has anyone tried Pine cat litter? Brands are Feline Pine and ExquisiCat Pine. This is made from recycled Pine and formed into pellets. It's natural and supposedly you can compost it or flush it down the toilet. I am curious how others feel about it and if you can compost/flush it?

Thanks!

We used it for a while and liked it. Couldn't find it for the longest time and now we can't afford it so we go much cheaper but it is nice stuff.

My sister uses Pine litter for our cat Newton. It works really well, though we dont have a compost pile (apartment complex...) Though it doesn't have odor control and cleaning it every day (sometimes twice if you have more than one cat) is imperative, that is precisely why I like it so much. I think Newton likes it more too...

Hey I just found out some more info on this stuff from a co worker. The same pine pellets that sell for cat litter ($10 for 20 pounds) also sell at feed stores as bedding for horses. My co worker has been using this as litter for his 5 cats for a couple of years. He pays $4 for 50 pounds. He is gonna bring some in for me to try out.

He also said that when it's wet it just falls apart into sawdust and makes great mulch.

If we like we will be able to save loads of money and not have to dump it into a landfill. YEAH!

It's definitely good stuff. THanks for the info on the feed places, I'm going to look into that!
Yesterday's News is also amazing stuff! We use both!

Wow!! This is the GREATEST stuff!!

I have two cats (and two boxes). I LOVE the pine pellets. We've been using them for several years now.

I've never noticed a smell like you do with a lot of the other litter brands (except of course when the stinky little girl decides to ... well you know) But other than that it's awesome!

I'm not sure how it would be to just leave it. We clean the boxes as deposits are made. And urine just turns the pellets to saw dust. It's very easy to clean. And there's no dust.

A word of caution though ... if you step on one of the little pellets (that the cat kicked out of the box) in bare feet, IT HURTS!

Anyway, that's my two cents and then some.

I use the pine cat litter and I find that you don't need as much of it in the box as you would other kinds, just a covering over the bottom and it will fluff up as the cat uses it and scratches in it. I like to dump the entire box out once a week and put in fresh. You can compost it, but you arn't suposed to garden with compost that has animal waste in it for healthy reasons. So put it on your flowers, but not your veggies.

At the rescue, we use almost exclusively something called Woody Pet, which is the pine. It works wonderfully for there, as it would be awfully tough to scoop clumping litter for 60+ cats. And for the price, you can't beat it. We go through about 3 bags a week.

At home, I use Arm & Hammer scoopable, I only have 9 cats, and it's the only one that works for everybody. I have a couple cats that won't use the pine, and since they sleep in our room, the three litter boxes in there must NOT smell. A&H works the best for me at home. We go through around 30 pounds every two weeks.

I tried Feline Pine--i was quite happy about it, but it turned out my Sam was violently allergic to it. Within a couple days it was runny eyes, goopy nose, sneezing, always worse after visiting the box... couple days after switching away he was all clear again. (The other two were completely OK with it)

I use Yesterday's News, which is a paper-based litter along the same idea (flushable, compostable), which works fine.

It's good stuff, I'd recommend Feline Pine, but do know that the occasional cat is allergic to it.
