Okay.. let me get this straight? The Pit bull ban might pull through after all? Yet it is perfectly legal to own a Canary dog? Yikes! Those dogs are twice the size of a pit bull.. honestly they look like pit bulls on steroids!! :twitch:
Doesn't the gov know that people will just seek out a different kind of dog that could potentially be stronger and meaner than a pit bull.
The ban is retarded! Any dog can attack. Yes pit bulls can be agressive dogs.. but if someone wants to own one.. they should be allowed to! They should just make it a law.. if your dog isnt in a knell or in the house it needs a muzzle and a leash that can carry its weight. All dogs should be muzzled anyways! But to ban a breed because they are prone to attack.. Animals have animal instincts.. they are only animals! If people start buying Canary dogs.. they might be some BIG problems.. then eventually they will ban those and so on...
My moms boy friend owns a female pit bull.. and in the 2 years Ive known the dog she has been obdient and hasnt hurt anyone. :wah:

i have a pit, she is so sweet and loving. she is a doll with NO agressiveness at all. a love fluff. the humane society told us she was a "terrier mix" so they wouldn't have to put her to sleep.
but what is a canary dog?

The Pit Bull Ban DID pull through and now sooo many of these dogs in our local shelters that aren't spayed or neutered are being put down!! Of course the Government in all thier infinite wisdom has decided that not only Pit Bulls but any dog that LOOKS like one will be banned as well. Talk about racial profiling!!!! Ok yes that may be a little extreme but think about it really...banning something because of the way it looks not because it's dangerouse...bah. I'm waiting for the next dog attack to see what happens..Maybe it will be a toy poodle and we'll have to ban those or a tea cup terrier!! My hubby told me about these canary dogs..apparently some woman in the U.S was mauled to DEATH by one in 2003 and the dog was destroyed. I have to look it up but I do know one of the crosses is a Bull Mastif which also looks like a giant Pit Bull but is one of the most gentle family breeds of dog you can get. This whole ban thing just strikes a chord in me and its not a very melodic one. Every breed of dog is at risk now...and who knows what else...maybe somone will suffer a cat bite and we'll have to ban those too. Lookout for those visciouse domestic short hairs guys they can be real killers!! I really think our Government went about this entirely wrong. They could have actually even made some money if they were smart...Forcing the breed to be more controlled as in registered breeders...recognizing the dogs as an actual Breed and having people take courses in obediance and training with the dogs so that only people who understand the breed well can actually get one...Making it harder to get one and controlling bloodlines would curb the bad owners AND make some bucks. I have said it before and will say it again It's the owner NOT the dog. Our government and specifically Michael Bryant are just a bunch of overpaid shirts with rocks in thier heads.

I think the dog looks more mastiff then Pit, I think people may be apt to think Pit with the cropping of ears and especially the Brindle markings but keep in mind that these are also seen with other breeds such as Boxers and Great Danes which are no relation...although they do look like Pits...well Im sure they will ban those too then....
I apologize for my bitterness it just bothers me to no end

Omg it did go through? That is so dumb.. My heart goes out to those families who suffered dog attacks but I think whom ever thinks up these bills have way too much time on their hands. There are more worse things to pass bills for other than Pitt Bulls. :sniffsnif

Now now...thats how the Pit Bull thing got started lol. I actually don't thing its scary but holy mack its a huge dog. There is also a mix between pit and Rotti...it's called a monster pit...that dog is scary looking ...like the Omen dog but on steroids. Really though Im not afraid of any type of dog and never have been...I have been bitten but by smaller more high strung breeds while working as a Vet Assistant. Even with the bites which I took I still am not nervous near any dog..I would love to meet one of these canary dogs and see for myself what they are like...

They are also called Presa Canario - a woman was mauled by them. But once again, I believe it's the people who raise them, not the dogs.

Did the mauling happen near you LadyAutumn? I knew that a woman had succumb to injuries from a mauling but I hadn't heard where...like I said my hubby only told me about these dogs in the last couple of days so I didn't know too much about them...thats why I posted the link when i found it :)

The attack I know of occurred in California. I haven't really heard much else in the way of attacks by these dogs. It was probably an isolated instance. The problem also is that authorities tend to label dogs that look like pits (to them) as pit bulls. I believe this is one of the main reasons why there are so many pit bull attacks. It's sad. The people who raise the dogs inappropriately should pay not the dogs.
