has anyone else heard about Nostrodomus's prediction for 2005? He predicted that in 2005, a plague would spread worldwide, killing millions, and that humans would get it from chickens. I think it is starting, because in Asia, people are getting the chicken flu, and 7 out of every 10 people who got it in Asia died from it. I heard that it will probably spread, and it will, worldwide, if Nostrodomus was right. Just thought i'd mention it. Does anyone here know anything more about it? Is it unsafe to eat chicken? :lookaroun

The chickens think so... ;)

There is the possibility that the Asian Bird flu will go pandemic, but it is interesting to note that it's already been fairly widespread in Asia for over a year now and hasn't gone pandemic yet.

Wouldn't worry too much...yet.

I don't THINK this can be spread by eating the chicken unless its really fresh and hasn't been cooked well. Viruses don't typically survive long in a dead body (there are exceptions to this though). I haven't really been keeping close track, though, so I don't know.

As an aside, though, even if a virus (or something else) wiped out 99% of humanity, there would still be over 60 million people worldwide... don't ask me why that occured to me, my thoughts are just taking a rather morbid turn this morning.

I keep updated on the situation regularly.

The Avian flu thats in question is a possible threat. The virus, as of now, can only be caught from direct contact from chickens and is still isolated to the Asian regions. It is spreading quickly through the animal populous as in now affects wild birds, cats and pigs and a few other species. As of now, humans are rarely infected but the animal population is a feeding ground for this germ. This crossing over to other species shows the virus is and often mutates. If it infects a human who also has the regular, common, human flu...the 2 types of flu can come together and mutate into a type of flu that would be spread as easy as any common virus but we would have no immunity at all and the rate of mortality could easily be 75%.

The WHO and CDC are both very worried at the potential brewing. They say its just a matter of time. We are past due for a major pandemic. Whats happening with this strain of bird flu is typical in nature for periodic pandemics. No one has been able to cure or control this virus. It continues to spread and mutate.

For now the U.S. is safe and so are our birds. But with human travel, the risk of spread increases as this virus continues to change.

The only thing so far countries have been able to do is stock pile anti virus drugs in case of a mutated outbreak. The drugs may help but its no fix. Our country has enough to treat only tens of thousands of people, not nearly enough to matter. There is arguing going on between health orgs and the gov about the potential threat.

We are all safe for now, but the future is uncertain. The Asian sectors are working with WHO and other orgs and countries in hopes of finding a vaccine against this threat. They have gotten no where as of present but hopefully they will develop something that can stop this threat before it mutates and spreads.

Anyone can get more info from The World Health Org (http://www.who.int/en/) website.

Wow. Nostradamus is WAY off. The transfer of the chicken plague from bird to human was fact 2 years ago.

Hmm. Does anybody have an actual, untranslated copy of the Nostradamus originals?

don't worry about eating the chicken, just touching live chickens coz eating cooked chicken means the virus is killed (then again virus aren't living things :shiver:

Hmm. Does anybody have an actual, untranslated copy of the Nostradamus originals? But if the prediction is that 'it spreads world wide' in 2005...then he wouldnt be way off. The mutated form would still have its roots in the birds. If the virus mutates this year, his prediction could be a reality. I think! http://mysticwicks.com/images/smilies2/loco.gif
But hopefully it wont happen.

Here are a few different versions Xen

Usually when something bad happens the passages get shunted around and mixed up just to support it.

According to my copy of Nostradamus, the Pope was supposed to have died on December 16, 1999. He got that one a bit wrong, didn't he?

Still. The threat of a pandemic is worrying. But there's not a lot we can do about it, is there? :whatgives:
