corned beef boiled dinner serves 8
1/3 cup vegetable oil
3-4 lb. corned beef
3 quarts water
3 garlic cloves
2 teaspoons caraway seeds
3 bay leaves
1 tablespoon beef soup base
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
1 head green cabbage
2 cups diced onions(1 inch)
2 cups sliced carrots(2 inches)
2 cups sliced celery(2 inches)
6-8 small red potatoes,unpeeled
in dutch oven,heat oil over medium heat until hot.add beef,browning on all sides.transfer to large pot;add water,garlic,caraway seeds,bay leaves,beef soup base,salt and pepper,boil slowly 2 3/4 hours,skimming foam occasionally.remove outer leaves of cabbage;cut into 6 wedges,leaving outer leaves in place to keep cabbage pieces intact.add onion,carrots,celery and potatoes;simmer in soup pot until tender,about 30 minutes.remove meat and vegetables serve with horseradish or mustard.yum!!!i put turnips in too it's up to you how much.not everybody likes them lol i do.i do know the smaller the turnip the better they are.blessings
