A lot of people just dont really understand what Crowley was trying to accomplish. Its better to take the slander and move on than to try to explain Crowley. If you understand him, then it needs no explanation.

good site. a very misunderstood (but admittedly strange) character. most people can't get by the usual biases that shroud the man. and, to be truthful, much of this was his own doing. but love him or hate him, he was a legitimate genius. and his work with tarot was (imnsho) unparalleled.

Talking about biased information, I've heard that he locked the other perosn who worked on the thoth with him(Can't remeber her name, sorry) away in a room until she finished his deck. Is this truth or have I been greatly misinformed?

To my knowleddge, though admittedly a bit limited but I know this one :), AC did NOT lock Lady Frieda Harris up. This was just something that was put out, I believe (no substantiated evidence) to generate controversy and angst towards and against AC.

it may have been meant as a metaphor. she was no pushover, but a very interesting woman in her own right. try this;

Well, Ive studied Crowley for a long time now and I just have to say I have never heard this. Period. Nothing. Not even a hint to it.

I called it biased information because I don't know it's source. Alot of people I know read the thoth and they all just take it for granted that that is what was so. Since I don't know the source I can't tell you more until I get ahold of my friend and maybe she tells me if she knows what started an entire neighborhood believing this.

I wouldn't put much faith in it either, I've known many people who still believes Elvis lives......:)

I dunno, something about his focus on the inverted pentacle; just turns me off. I don't see chaos as something we need to strive for. People have performed human sacrifices to that very same symbol, don't think energy only works one way..

Errr.....

What are you talking about?

The inverted pentagram does not indicate chaos. I'm not sure where the bit of misinformation came from.

SEcondly, human sacrifices int eh name of the inverted pentagram? Eh? Where did that come from?

You might need to research the significance of the inverted pentagram before you can have a valid opinion about the subject.

probably OT, but here's an essay about the inverted pentagram

Coupla good points anyways, although there's also some stuff I disagree with.
take it for what it worth.

the way I was taught is that the upright pentagram refers to spirit being above and able to manipulate the elements, and inverted it meant being ruled by these elements and there baser natures. Just the way I was taught, though. it might explain the whole chaos thing. I was wondering where this obsession is showed? Is it in one of his books/works or his thoth?

thank you for that link Story, I printed the essay out...

I have been looking for soemthing like this to show to a few friends of mine to shut them up LOL

Crowley was very misunderstood, but if people actually take the time to read his bio, as written by Hymenaeus Beta

you can actually get a pretty factual and very interesting look into Crowley's life...

Crowley's Book four or Liber aba is a compilation of parts 1 through 4

it has his bio and has been endorced by the OTO....

I've known people to perform Human Sacrifices to many symbols, It doesn't mean that symbol is EVIL, it means some people prefer to use those symbol to their willing...

Hmm. Crowley didnt employ an inverted pentagram. In fact, he much preferred the hexagram and the Holy Symbol of Our Lady Babylon.

And as far inverted versus not-inverted. I use both. One for me means power within and the other means power without. Think about it.

Since this is a thread about Crowley...I thought this a good place to bring this up.

This document was pivotal in my acceptance of Crowley. This short, simple little essay caused me to stop thinking of all the negative I have heard about the man and to ask myself, "Could an evil man write something like this?" My answer to this was a resounding no.

You judge for yourself...
