Which Goddess Oracle do you have? I have the one by Marashinsky & Janto. I use it to pull a Goddess card to meditate on for each moon cycle. I have also used it for readings. It is primarily a deck for emotions and healing, not really divination.

If you want to do divination, try a tarot deck or a different kind of Oracle.

If you want to learn more about yourself, or you want to help others get through thier issues, this deck will be helpful.

As far as reading the directions with Oracles, that's about all you can do. Oracles are all very different, so no strict set of rules or meanings really apply, outside of what is laid down by the deck's creator(s). Use the directions they've provided for a while and once you become comfortable with the deck, see if you can come up with new ways to use it on your own.

With tarot, the rules are pretty universal for all decks, so you have a structure there, the Oracles think outside of that box. :)

It's the deck by Doreen Virtue. I think that's her first name...
I want to get a Tarot Deck, and I have one picked out... is the instructional maual inside those packs helpful, or should I invest in a book? And if so, which one? Tarot for Dummies ? (that's supposed to be funny by the way...)

Actual books on tarot offer much more information than the LWB (little white book) that comes with the deck, so I believe that investing in a real book would be beneficial. The 2 that I usually recommend are Tarot Reversals by Mary K. Greer and 78 Degrees of Wisdom by Rachel Pollack.

I haven't worked with the oracle deck you're using, but Ms. Virtue's decks are pretty easy, so her LWB should be helpful for you to use the cards with.

When you're ready for a tarot deck, check out the beginner listings over at www.aeclectic.net (http://www.aeclectic.net) and also do a search on here for "beginner tarot deck" and you should pull up a bunch of threads on the subject with lots of recommendations.

Good luck!

Hi cottagewitch. I have Doreen Virtue's Goddess cards. Aren't they wonderful? They were the first deck of divination cards I was drawn to and soon after spotted them at a spiritual festival, so knew I was meant to have them. They are more about emotions and feelings than tarot cards which to my mind have a wider scope. But they are lovely and there is a number of things that can be done with them, including meditating which Lisa mentioned. Try to get a feel for each card before reading the acompaning book, so you can feel with your intuition rather than your logical side. I also have some tarot cards which I got for my birthday last week. They are definitely more complicated to my mind and do seem to have more of a structure, again as Lisa stated. My set is the Beginners guide to Tarot - CARDS AND BOOK SET by Juliet Sharman-Burke. I also found a great book, Personal Development with the Tarot by Catherine Summers. As I've only had them just over a week I'm still trying to familarise myself with the cards and so have not done a reading yet. I have done a few distance readings with my goddess cards, so if you want me to try with yourself, or perhaps you can do one for me sometime (to help you practice) I'd be more than happy. Its all a learning curve!!! Good luck with your quest!!
