:grrrrr: :flamer: :grrrrr:

I'm really not good at putting up with inane tasks that are assigned to me. I knew this class was going to be a problem for me and I've been putting of taking it for the past three years but it's a core requirement and so I have to grit my teeth and bear it. Of course... I'm currently failing. :abanana: _handclapp :abanana:

It's this like tiny Comp sci 110, and it's flaming rediculous, if you can follow directions you can pass the course, it takes no actual thought and the excercises you do in the class don't add to your life in anyway, it's just playing puppet.

I hate playing puppet.

If we were doing all these assignments for soemthing actually interesting, or for some thing we've been researching that would do us good to learn about I might be able to stand it more, but then again I've been working with Word and Powerpoint since high school and this is just silly evilishness.

The reason I'm failing is becasue it's so hard to make myself do pointless assignments. I hate busy work, in high school I woudln't do it, so my only good grades where in my Drama and AP classes.... *sigh* Someone please save me from myself. Is anyone else this way?

I could blame my flighty ENFP but I have a feelign that that is not all of why I can't seem to make myself preform thus. And I do need to graduate...

I see what you mean. I have no right to blame you for not enjoying drone tasks, however, perhaps if you relook at your philosophy - your way of looking at said tasks - you will see differently.

There are several points to consider:
- mindless tasks = easy work
- easy work = easy marks
- easy marks = easy test preparation
- easy test preparation = no last minute cramming
- easy marks = higher average
- higher average = more opportunities after school
- more opportunities after school = richer future
- richer future = eariler retirement.

Shall I continue?

Hey... My opinion is that you just try your hardest and keep at it. When you do finish it, whether you enjoy it or not, you will regret it if you just give up and fail it. There are many classes Im taking, and I hate them all, because the life I have planned ahead of me doesn't even require school education, but even though I hate them, I just deal with it so that in the long run something good will come out of it... Good luck!

Ahh, but here is the rub. I get A's on all the tests. I never study, it's just the too time consumming hoops to jump through that weight down my grade. And it's only a one credit class so in the scheme of things it wont beat out the 3.5 I ahve in my English Major and the 3.8 I have in my Classics Major...

But it takes an hour to finish one of these rediculous assignments... and my brain screams out in outrage the whole time!! it's just like working Blockbuster in the summers, my soul revolts against the meaningless.

Oooooh, and I don't want to retire, it seems very very boring and I would feel insignifigant, I'd rather be working on things till I die, but then again I'm planning a career in the arts...

I can be that way.... and all the computer classes are the same.... just get to it!!! I know it sucks.... but set up an... appointment for yourself. From 10-11 you'll do the homework on x days. And just think of the hell that you'll have to deal with if you fail. I don't know if you're on financial aid... but the thought of loosing my financing is pretty good motivation to getting stuff done. And if you have so much experience with the programs... then it should fall under the classification of an easy A... take it and get your gpa up....

It's my last semester so my financial aide isn't going anywhere.

Doesn't anyone agree with my frustrations to the point where they think I should keep procrastinating?

*sniffles*

It's thar principle of the thing!!!

It's like wasting life.... *sniffle*

:uhhuhuh: lol. I actually agree. lol. When I retire I will probably still have a 9-5 job, maybe at a gas station or a bookshop; I like a sense of community.

May I suggest deep meditation? Sunrise meditation is beautiful. :)

If these assignments are mind-stressing to complete, perhaps they are not as mindless as you believe. Are you by chance talking about a programming course?

I don't think I could do just anything though, I ahve to have a sense of meaning and purpose, as sense of affecting the world in ways I want. I hate working at any kind of retail it just makes my skin crawl to deal with money.

My meditations usually end up like this:

"WOw, I'm relly bad at not thinking... yup... still bad at not thinking.... la la la trying to not think, la la la.... SHUT UP!!!!!! ............................... :( but I don know how? Bah, let's just give up, shall we? Ok, lets go play with puppy...."

It is like waisting life... that's why no one thinks you should continue to procrastinate.

Do you realize how fast the work would go by... if you just put on some music and *stop thinking about how much you hate it*!!!!! The mental anguish is simply you focusing on it way too much. If you think "oh, Gods... I soooo don't want to do this!!! Can't I just go hang out at Mysitc Wicks for just five minutes??" then you're just torturing yourself!!! Save mw for after you're done. Turn off the TV, shut down your messanging servers and the phone (so you can't be distracted... alternately I've had people coaching me on doing my paper via IM's at 4 am the day it's due).

Now... how many assignments are you behind? How long do you have left?

Try breathing. Try watching your breathing and counting it. Works for me.

Additionally you can try simple chants: "Breath is Life." ... 'Peace, Love, Compassion." ... "Love is Life.".... lalala

Well, technically I can't listen to music since I'm doing this while working at my job at the library, while illegally playing on line and doing my homework.... I've got 19 hours of class and 20 hours of work a week, and I'm just a little bit drowing. I'm semi working on it while I'm tlaking here, but it's just so frustrating, I'll think I'm at the end of one of these prodjects but there are moe and more inane stuff they want us to do that wont even show up on the final draft. Tutorials suxxor!!!!!!!!

He he... that's the stuff I do before going on my inward rant about not being good at meditating.... I really just don't like to be inside my own head very much.

And the stuff I ahven't completed is:
Tutorial 2
Tutorial 2 Case 1
Works Cited Practice
T3 Case 4
T3Reveiw (though I thought I rememebred doing that....)
Power Point Project 1
Power Point Project 2

And then I also ahve to make this big presentation for 2 wed.s from now, but I also ahve to finish my grad school applications, one due the 2nd and one due the 15th, and I can't seem to concentrate on them either.

Gracious. Well I hope you get through it all.

I need to comment about meditation now.
med·i·tate Audio pronunciation of "Meditate" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (md-tt)
v. med·i·tat·ed, med·i·tat·ing, med·i·tates
v. tr.

1. To reflect on; contemplate.
2. To plan in the mind; intend: meditated a visit to her daughter.

v. intr.

1.
1. Buddhism & Hinduism. To train, calm, or empty the mind, often by achieving an altered state, as by focusing on a single object.
2. To engage in devotional contemplation, especially prayer.
2. To think or reflect, especially in a calm and deliberate manner.
Meditation has very little to do with empting your mind of any thought. If you want to stop yourself from thinking, consider suicide. Meditation can be empting thoughts, I suppose, but that is not the only use for it. Meditation can be just you, yourself, and ye, resting still with your eyes closed, unaware of your physical self, but aware of your surroundings, thinking to yourself, and solving problems, hence propelling your philosophies further. :)

Also, have a look at the Princeton University definition:
Meditate

v 1: reflect deeply on a subject; "I mulled over the events of the afternoon"; "philosophers have speculated on the question of God for thousands of years"; "The scientist must stop to observe and start to excogitate" [syn: chew over, think over, ponder, excogitate, contemplate, muse, reflect, mull, mull over, ruminate, speculate] 2: think intently and at length, as for spiritual purposes; "He is meditating in his study" [syn: study, contemplate]

Well perhaps I shouldn't mention that becasue you changed the quote but not your response, that you now contradict yourself.

But now you ahve to convince me to reside within my own mind, I don't do that very well. I always want to be outside of me.

Some links for meditation:

I used to have a lot of the same issues. Remember that meditation is about practice. If you can't do it right the first time... then... well.. you're the same as everyone else... you have to keep practicing... that's why they call it practice... it doesn't have to be perfect.

There are also different types of meditation. Most descriptions of the 'clearing your mind' simply aren't adequate for beginners!!!! I like Vappissanna meditation for this. Start with focusing on your breathing. Your mind isn't clearing, rather you are thinking "inhale, inhale, inhale, exhale, exhale, exhale" or "rising, rising" etc. And you're breathing comfortably... not trying to change your breathe... just observing it. As your mind wanders away acnowledge the thought and dismiss it "I will deal with that situation later. Now is the time to work on my mind. Rising, rising..." It may take some time before you even realise that your mind has wandered, that's ok... bring your thoughts back. Eventually, you'll be able to dismiss the thoughts quicker and with more ease, and you'll lengthen the space inbetween distracting thoguhts. You can't start weightlifting with 100 lbs!!!

There are also visualisation meditations....

http://www.invinciblemusic.com/yoga-music-reiki-music-21.htm This has some really nice audio and video clips for meditation. The video's are whole meditations... focus on the immage and sound comming from your computer... and insta meditation... My favorite is the "Nature Meditation Video"

http://www.paganspath.com/meta/anmlmed.htm is an Animal Guide Meditation.

There are forms of meditation where the goal is to empty your mind of all thought. How does meditation have little to do with it?

confused now...

Because it would probably help a lot. You need to be able to focus on your assignments amidst the distractions. Meditation is about focusing your mind amidst distraction.

Now... go do your homework!!! ;)

And 19 credits could be part of the issue. lol

*laughs* I had to read that a couple times before I read it right. :) I am in no way saying that I want to fail, and I am trying to get things done but it's really hard. no matter how many times I tell myself I can sit down and just grind my teeth through it I can't manage to gdo it, it's like a gag reflex. I'm sorry that my complaining might be annoying to you.
