I noticed an unususal spell when surfing the web today to "give the illusion of a change in appearance" ( which you choose). I had never even heard of anything like this and wondered if it really works and if it is temporary or if there was a way i could make it temporary.

Yeah, that'd be a glamoury. They're really hard to pull off, from what I've heard, and yes, they're totally temporary. Heck, nothing about you really changes; it just appears to change.

From what I understand when doing spells like that your appearance doesnt actually change it just appears to have changed or you just become more attractive to some people. I've read somewhere that it usually wont work on people close to you. But I honestly have no idea because Ive never tried it.

There are many types of glamouries and many levels of power concerning it, as with all things. There are some people with enough to skill to actually change their physical appearance, or perhaps just enough luck on their side (which could be equated to many things, such as timing, personal power, etc.). I've done that once or twice.
Typically glamouries merely re-arrange your aura and influence the perception of others. More often this is a result of skill level, simple unfortunate luck or the limitations many magical practioners place upon themselves ("Oh that's not possible! You can't really that!" and thus they can't).

The basic concept behind them, at least the ones I'm familiar with, is making people believe they see a certain thing. Like useing mirrors to distort images.
It won't usually work on yourself, or people who know you well enough to familiar with whatever you're changing.
It takes a lot of concentration, but you can do it. I use a similar technique to be "invisible". I just concentrate on projecting my environment around me, and if people aren't paying attention they don't usually notice me.

When I was a little younger my friend watched the craft and we all did the glamour spells for the eyes on each other--it so totally worked :colorful:
(haha) Maybe it just depends on how willing you are to believe. We were all new and had no reason not to buy it.
