i posted this in the thread "any crocheters?", but i figured it would do better being its own post. I was thinking of organizing a monthly crochet challenge. I would post a pattern (one thats in public domain), and then people would make it, take pictures, share tips and ideas, and offer any help they can. the patterns wouldn't be too complicated, so that beginners and not-so-beginners can both have fun. The patterns might also be seasonal, depending on the month... say, a nice warm something-or-other for the winter, something spring-like for the spring. Is anybody interested in participating in this? Its not like there need to be sign ups or anything, but it would be nice to know if this is something people would like to do before i get it together.

If I had the time to do something like this I would be so all over it!!
Between work and, well, work, I don't get a lot of play-time in. :P
Lately I've been playing with the eyelash type yarns, and also an openwork ribbon yarn called "matrix" from lion brand which is very, very cool.
I've found the eyelash yarns work a lot better for knitting because it's hard to find the stitch on crocheted pieces, but I didn't let that stop me!!

i know, its not easy to crochet with eyelash yarn, it gets way too confusing, but i have seen people knitting with it, and it didn't look like too much trouble... too bad i'm no good at knitting... well, i'll try to get the first month's challenge up by the weekend.

while trying to pick out a pattern, i decided i needed input on what type of things people would be interested in making, ie afghans, lapghans, pillows, stuffed toys, clothing and accessories, etc. so, if anybody wants to participate, please share ideas.

The trick in crochet is to pick the right holes to hook through. If you hook it through the same holes repeating a pattern you would end up with something circular. This is how you make coasters and hats. If you hook the pattern in a linear fashion you end up with blankets. This can have patterns by skipping holes and stuff.

This sounds fun! I would love to participate in this but I might not be able to do every month. I'm a huge beginner and I am very slow. I don't have any ideas about what we could make. Something easy would be my only request :p

i'm considering doing 3 levels, it might be longer than a month because i know a lot of people don't have time, and i don't think enough people are interested for me to try to make a deadline each month.. its supposed to be a go at your own pace thing... i was thinking level 1 project would be a simple pattern, level 2 would be a little more complex, and level 3 would be a do-it-yourself thing, without a pattern... like, slippers... level 1 would be really basic slippers, 2 would be moccasin-style slippers or something, and 3 would be to make a pair of slippers on your own, being as creative as possible, although it looks like there would probably be only a few people participating, i still think it would be fun. so maybe it will start off being every 2 months, and we'll see where it goes from there...
