Check in your phone book for small phone companies that offer just local service. Thats what we had to do.

My bill is almost 200.00
the problem is....about 2 months ago, we got a wicked bad storm here....and it damaged the transformer at my isp's.....when the problem was fixed....the number that my dial up was supposed to dial in to....was replaced by a long distance number....needless to say I have a 200 bill for dial up. I have tried to get this issue resolved to no avail....I am stuck.
I have cox communications for both my phone and my cable...and the cable was cut off this afternoon.....so I know the phone is next

I have only local service and use a cheap MCI card for long distance... I pay less than 3 cents a minute. That way, when I go over my limit, I just can't use it.

I am sorry your bill is so high, but maybe you can get local phone service and dial up and use a card for long distance like I do?

Ah well, I hope you are not gone long!!! :hugz:

Valerie

If you're using cox communications, they offer a high-speed internet connection - you weren't using them for your internet service?

Goddess Rhiannon
March 28th, 2005, 08:54 PM
no, I was using peoplepc as a service provider.....I could not afford the dsl....I see where that got me

Hi Sweetie, I miss you
I know, me too...

I have the card yousent to me in one of my tote bags, so I still have your addy.
Thinking of ya, maybe one day I'll write, not making promises, but open to suprises!

I'll miss your presence (despite my extended absence from the forums, I still remember your posts).

Now, if DSL is even availible in your area, your ward is large enough to have a local dialup number. Try to ask for another number that is local, if one is not availible, email and I can share one of my Earthlink logins (they don't really mind).

For calling long-distance, which I rarely do, I use a H.323/SIP VoIP-to-PSTN gateway provider. This means Skype for cheapo international calls to Asia and free calls to friends, with Vonage for long-distance, Montreal, BC, etc.

Try posting from the library or something? I'm looking at this from a different perspective though, $200 isn't too much to pay for Internet for me, I don't what what I'd do without connectivity (No, I do NOT have an offline social life)...

I'm so sorry to hear Hon. You wanna know what our biggest bill was? Heh.. It might make you feel better. Hubby lost his job last Summer, so the bills piled up and we didn't pay the phone for about oh.. 2 months or 5. Our bill was a whopping $785 (feel better yet? hahaha)! We were able to get them to put us on a payment plan though and paid it off just recently. I think it was $45 a month, plus whatever the new bills were. That's Verizon though. Cox is totally different and will not negotiate. We had them at one time: The whole package of phone, cable and internet. We got tired of losing cable whenever there was a light sprinkling of rain, or the wind blew 2 miles an hour. So, we cancelled them and have been living without cable for about 2 years now. Cox is pure evil though. I'm so glad they have Roadrunner in Memphis, because we definitely wouldn't go through Cox again.

If you wanna shoot me your addy, I'll write to you too! My little "arteest" Delia can even draw some of her masterpieces to cheer you up.

if you need to get an email out, you can always go to the library, they have public computers and it doesnt cost anything to use...

After arguing with the phone/cable company....they have decided to allow me to have intenet service until April 8th. They will restore my cable until then as well. I need to pay the balance by that date...to keep my service.
