What type of housplants are safe to have when you have cats? Also my house is completely shady most of the day!

Spider plants grow well in shade. My cat has eaten mine down to the roots and it has still grown back. The cats still alive too. Wheat grass is health for cats. And their is a flowering plant that my mom gets for her cat... I'll have to get the name of it for you.

Thanks. I currently have a spider plant and wheat grass. If you could find out the name of the other plant...that would be great.

She gets him dyathis. He will eat it down to the roots. Every couple of days she will take it outside so it can re-grow. It's a very hardy plant though.

i have a pot of catnip in almost every room in the house. it also helps to underplant taller species or things that you don't want the cat to chew on with the catnip. the catnip actually keeps them busy and they forget to chew the other plants. i have poisonous plants in my house and garden that i use and need. the animals never touch them. i'm not sure why. i do take all precautions in that i introduce all the animals to any new plant and let them know that i would prefer they not chew this one or that it will make them sick or whatever the reason. i also advise the plants to look and smell as unpopular as they can to the animals. i ask the co-existing entities in our home to watch out for and pre-empt or advise me of any untoward situations.
i may seem a bit quirky even on a pagan website but i don't have any ill animals or damaged plants so something works...:)e

Merry Meet and Welcome to MW!!:D

As far as my cat is concerned...He dosen't listen to ANYTHING I say...he'll try to eat ANYTHING...plastic, garbage, he even tried to eat my cactus plant!! OUCH! I don't think he'll do that again:eek:

If he joins me in circle next time...which, he usually does...I think I'll try a little spell or something...to help him not be so mischievous...wish me luck!

Oh and the catnip in everyroom sounds like a good idea, however, is it true that it makes cats a little wild...that's the last thing my crazy @ss cat needs!

hehe Catnip.. That'd drive the cat wild (works for mine, but I had the catnip outside). We have spider plants and my cat's still fine. But spider plants have a tendancy to run wild unless you like cut them back or something.. 8O

response...
i don't think my cats are any more mellow than others. they spend a fair amount of time climbing the walls- quite literally-but perhaps their response to the catnip is dear or maybe they have just overdosed. i have three tuxedo cats and they all respond to catnip like they are stoned-'like totally dude'-it's really pathetic sometimes. i think the OTH (other than humans) in my house have more to do with the safety of my plants and my cats than the catnip.
does anyone else have oth in their homes? i thought they were pretty universal. there have been various kinds in every place i've ever lived. they watch over things and i leave them goodies. its a simbiotic relationship. i am very grateful to them.
you're right about the spider plants. and i am also being over-run with sweetheart vine at the moment. time to pot some up and have a sale.
