Prayers for the Pope

You all are probably going to think I'm silly, with such a thread title on these boards. But I just feel so bad for the man, he's been so dedicated to his work, and his followers are going to feel such loss. So I was thinking...

Can we say a few short prayers? Nothing along the lines of "That Catholisicm will fall" or "The leaders will be more liberal" or anything silly like that. More along the lines of, wishing him a peaceful passage, or that his followers won't suffer much as a result of their loss, something like that? Maybe not even post, but say a gentle prayer?

I know he gets prayer all the time, but around here we give prayers to anybody who asks, right? So, maybe, I'm asking for him.

I pray that he passes peacefully, without any more pain... that they let him go in a dignified fashion, instead of keeping him on machines... that his followers find a way to cope, and hope for the future, in God. And that when he "gets there", he is happy.

I pray that the pope will die with those who love him by his side, and that he will not suffer long and be united with the god that he believes in. I pray that if he continues to live that he will be left in peace without the meddling of others. I pray that those who continue his line of power do not abuse that power but lead the followers in good conscience.

No, I don't think you're being silly at all. Although we may have disagreed with some of his stands on various issues,he has been a man of unswerving faith, in the face of the Nazis and Communism and other obstacles we may not know of. Who among us could truly forgive the person who shot and tried to kill us? There are many in former Communist countries who can now practice their religion (not just Catholicism) due at least in part to his influence, and the world(IMHO) will be the poorer for his loss,but richer for his being here. I will always remember the last time he was shown in public in more or less stable health,on his balcony with two small children releasing doves, and the way he laughed when the birds kept flying back inside.....
